Yucheng.
Although the weather in June wasn't scorching hot, the air was still filled with a persistent heat.
A row of detached houses stood in a staggered pattern. Several people were gathered in front of one of the houses, swearing loudly and enthusiastically.
"Young lady, you just moved in, right? How could you move in without saying a word, without asking any of us for permission?"
Su Li looked at the several unfriendly-looking middle-aged women in front of her, her face full of helplessness.
She and Xiaochen had just landed at the airport when she quickly took a taxi over.
The accommodation that had been arranged was claimed by the other party as their territory, and they said that outsiders were not allowed to stay there.
Her luggage was kept outside the door, and she wasn't allowed to go in.
This area is located in the city center, in an old residential area with a sense of history. The transportation is very convenient, but the rent is also very expensive. She has already paid a year's rent.
"Gentlemen, I did rent this place, and I've already paid the rent. Now that you're not letting me in, shouldn't you call the police to handle this?"
"Hey young lady, how can you talk like that? We didn't agree to let you rent it, you moved in on your own." An older woman in front of me said emphatically, fanning herself with a fan.
"Exactly, we haven't had any outsiders come in for many years. What do you mean by suddenly bringing your child here?"
"This isn't a place you can just stay anywhere. Pack your bags and get out of here."
They were all chasing people away.
Su Chen stood to the side, worried that his sister couldn't handle it, and was about to step forward to speak.
Su Li blocked him away and said, "What are you doing here? Go stand over there."
"Sis, are you sure the place you found is safe?"
"Don't question my judgment, it's okay, I'll handle it."
The middle-aged woman crossed her arms and said arrogantly, "Move out now, or we'll call someone over."
"It's written in black and white here, you can see for yourselves."
Su Li raised her hand, and a rental contract appeared in front of them.
The woman opened her eyes wide and looked at it carefully. She saw that the terms and conditions were complete, and there were signatures from both parties.
Grandma Jin stared at the last signature and read aloud, "Jin Dabao?"
Someone nearby said, "Hey, Aunt Jin, isn't this your husband? Why did he rent out the house himself?"
"Damn it, I'm going back to ask him!"
“No need to go any further.” Su Li put away the contract and glanced to the side. “He’s already here.”
Jin Dabao was an elderly man, wearing an orange vest and black shorts, slowly walking over while waving a tattered fan.
Grandma Jin put her hands on her hips and loudly demanded, "Jin Dabao, explain to me what's going on here!"
Jin Dabao put on a big smile, "Wife, don't be angry. Our son isn't planning to get married, so I was thinking that since this house is just sitting empty, we can rent it out for a while and get some rent money."
"Are we people who lack that little bit of rent? Why should you rent out the house I prepared for my son's wedding?"
"Oh honey, they're only renting it for a year."
Su Li raised an eyebrow. She only said to pay for a year first, but didn't say that she would only stay for a year.
However, seeing how discordant the family seemed, she didn't want to stay for long.
"Jin Dabao, if you dare to make decisions on your own, do you believe I'll beat you to death!"
"Honey, honey, calm down. Getting angry can make you sick."
"Don't try to intimidate me."
The elderly couple started pushing and shoving each other, and Grandma Jin slapped Jin Dabao on the back.
"What's going on? The noise is disturbing the patient next door."
A gentle, melodious male voice came from not far away.
