◎Third update◎
Shanshan woke up from a nap and found herself alone in the room without her parents. She sat up blankly, and after a few seconds she burst into tears.
How come I was left alone in the house?
Holding her beloved floral quilt in her hands, Shanshan's little face was red from crying. Her tears as big as beans fell down like beads from a broken string, one by one hitting the ground with a plop, wetting the slate.
When mom and dad opened the door, Liang Baozhen saw the poor little kid standing outside, crying sadly.
"Mom!" Shanshan hugged her mother's thighs and sobbed, "I...I...why am I alone in the room?"
Liang Baozhen carried the girl to the bed. She felt sad when she saw her looking so aggrieved. She said she was so scared when she woke up and she hugged her tightly and refused to let go.
"Mom, oooooo! So scary, oooooo."
"Why are you so scared?" Xu Shengjie recalled the lady's bold words earlier. Why did she change her expression so suddenly? "I'm not afraid, I'm not afraid."
"Okay, okay, let's not sleep alone." Liang Baozhen didn't expect her daughter to be so scared. "How about sleeping with mom and dad?"
"Okay." Shanshan obediently lay down between her parents, pushed her quilt aside, and let her father cover her with it.
The mother wiped the tear marks on the child's face with a handkerchief. Xu Shengjie turned over and got out of bed, wet and twisted her face handkerchief, and then wiped the child's face with it, revealing a fair little face.
The young couple soon saw that their daughter had fallen asleep, and was sleeping soundly.
Sure enough, it is easier to fall asleep after crying.
Xu Shengjie looked at the sleeping face of the young lady and poked her soft cheeks. "You just love to torment your father and mother, right? You are quite a bad boy."
Liang Baozhen asked Xu Shengjie to pull the light cord and then lay down. "Forget it, sleep with us first. You can sleep on your own when you are older."
——
When Shanshan woke up, she felt a little embarrassed that she went back to her parents' room to sleep.
She tilted her head and thought, what's going on? Isn't she a brave child?
Her mother was dressing her and her father was tidying up her white shirt. Shanshan was unwilling to give in, "Mom, I want to sleep alone tonight."
"Don't!" Xu Shengjie objected immediately. Instead of going through so much trouble, it would be better to just sleep together in the house. "You can sleep by yourself when you are older."
Shanshan was not convinced, "I'm already big enough, I can sleep by myself."
"Who was it that came running up to me and wanted to hold me to sleep last night?" Liang Baozhen pointed at her beautiful nose.
"Hehe." Shanshan felt embarrassed, but she believed that she would be different next time!
Liang Baozhen has to go back to the TV station to work today, and Xu Shengjie is going to pick up Wu Er who came to Beijing. Wu Er's clothing business in Guangdong is booming, and many people from all over the country buy goods from him. This time he also took some time to come over to discuss business and take a look around.
"Dad, Mom, are you leaving?" Shanshan put on her shoes and prepared to have breakfast.
"Yes, I'll pick you up for dinner tonight. Your Uncle Wu asked to see you and said he brought you a gift."
Gift? Shanshan was excited when she heard it, but, "Who is Uncle Wu?"
Shanshan last saw Wu Er two years ago, and the little girl had long forgotten about it. Xu Shengjie reminded her, "Uncle who gave you a camera, have you forgotten about it?"
"Ah! Uncle with a big beard!" Shanshan remembered!
"Why are you still calling people nicknames?" Liang Baozhen pretended to pinch her little face to scare her, "Don't be rude."
"I know. I won't call Uncle Wu or Uncle Bearded Man. I just learned this myself." This is how Shanshan remembers people. Otherwise, how could she remember all the people she has met? This is so convenient.
"Then how do you remember your Uncle Lu?" Lu Yuan from the big compound, Chu Chu's father.
"The uncle who washes Chuchu's diapers."
"What about Uncle Zhou Qingdang?"
"Uncle with gray hair."
Zhou Qingdang had some gray hair, especially from those years when he worked as an educated youth in the countryside, which made his hair even white. Shanshan actually noticed this.
Xu Shengjie patted the child's head approvingly and prepared to go out. "Don't go crazy this afternoon. Come over with mom to have dinner."
"Okay, bye, Dad."
Liang Baozhen also set out shortly afterwards, riding her bicycle to the Beijing City TV Station.
Nearly a year after joining the TV station, Liang Baozhen has already taken over a broadcasting program. She was born with a good voice. When she broadcasts, her voice is crisp and pleasant, neither hurried nor slow, with a moderate speaking speed and clear pronunciation, like a wisp of spring breeze blowing through the radio into thousands of households.
Every lunchtime, "Lunch Talk" appears on the FM87.8 frequency band.
Zhou Yun prepared lunch. She and Shanshan were the only ones at home. Everyone else was busy with their own things. The two of them ate simply, a bowl of dumpling soup noodles each. But it only looked simple. There were a few pieces of ribs under the soup noodles, and the meat on top was stewed until soft and delicious.
"Shanshan, it's time to eat."
"Here it comes, grandma, it smells so good!" Shanshan was very good at exaggerating. She thought everything she ate was delicious. Every time she praised Zhou Yun as if she were the chef of a state-owned hotel.
She felt that no one in the world was sweeter than her great-granddaughter.
There was a radio on the square table in the room, with two bowls of dumpling soup noodles next to it. Zhou Yun and Shanshan sat on either side. Shanshan tuned the frequency skillfully until she heard a crackling sound and her mother's voice appeared on the radio!
Then we started eating.
"Yesterday, a resident of our city picked up a thousand-year-old turtle by the river..."
Liang Baozhen is still inexperienced. The radio program she currently broadcasts in rotation with others mainly talks about interesting, urgent and latest news of ordinary people. It is broadcast at two meal times.
However, because Liang Baozhen told the stories in an engaging and vivid way, many people listened curiously at the dinner table and found them quite appetizing.
Liu Nianhua's family also bought a radio. Today she was on duty and took Xiaolong and Xiaohu out for dinner at home. The three of them listened to Liang Baozhen's radio program.
"Mom, Aunt Baozhen speaks very well."
"Yes, your Aunt Baozhen is very successful. She has now joined the TV station. You should also strive to emulate her and learn more from others."
"Don't worry, Mom. I will make sure you live a good life in the future." Zhou Long learned carpentry for two years and felt that he had a skill. He always thought that one day he would let his mother retire so that they could enjoy a peaceful life at home.
However, Liu Nianhua was unwilling to do so. She had stayed at home for too long in the past, and later realized the importance of work. Having a job in hand is the greatest confidence.
The child didn’t understand all this, so she didn’t say much and just told him to wait and enjoy his blessing.
"Nianhua." As he was speaking, someone came to the door of Liu's house. Liu Nianhua recognized the voice as soon as he heard it. It was Aunt Zhang from next door.
"Aunt Zhang, please come in and sit down. Have you eaten? Sit down and eat something." Liu Nianhua felt a little uncomfortable looking at Zhang Rong. The matter between him and Zhou Qingdang was now like this. Zhou Qingdang said that his mother didn't care, but Liu Nianhua had never met Zhang Rong.
It feels quite strange to say that after being good neighbors for so many years, they have become mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.
"Hey, here are the leeks and eggs." Zhang Rong waved her hands and sat down, saying, "I just ate them. You guys eat."
Xiaolong and Xiaohu are very familiar with Grandma Zhang. They have been taken care of by Zhang Rong since they were young. At this moment, Zhou Long was busy pouring water for Grandma Zhang, while Zhou Hu was busy being a good boy.
"Xiaolong and Xiaohu are very sensible, better than many other kids out there." Zhang Rong watched the two children grow up from small children, and she never thought that they would have such a fate together in the future.
Liu Nianhua didn't know how to respond and just nodded repeatedly.
"Okay, I won't delay your meal. You can take your time. I just came over to say that we can have dinner at my house tonight." Zhang Rong looked at Liu Nianhua with a kind smile on her face. "Come together, the whole family."
Liu Nianhua understood in his heart what this meal meant, so he just said yes and sent Zhang Rong out of the house. The sun was shining brightly outside, making people feel happy at a glance.
Inside the room, Liang Baozhen's voice continued on the radio, "These two have been living in perfect harmony since their marriage, and they love each other very much."
——
"Baozhen, take care of your throat. Drink more honeysuckle tea, it's good for your throat." Feng Xiuxiu came over with a jar of dried golden chicken biscuits. When she opened it, she found not biscuits but a jar of honeysuckle.
"Wow, Xiuxiu, you're so nice!" Liang Baozhen had lunch with Feng Xiuxiu yesterday at noon and coughed twice. It wasn't a cold, but it was just that her voice was hurt from using it too much during broadcasting, so she coughed from time to time.
Unexpectedly, Feng Xiuxiu also gave her honeysuckle today.
"Who are we?" Feng Xiuxiu joined the TV station a year earlier than Liang Baozhen. They joined at the same time and got along well. They often ate together. "By the way, did you hear?"
"What did you hear?" Liang Baozhen was sorting out the manuscripts, preparing for tomorrow's.
"I heard that people will be transferred from our station to next year's Spring Festival Gala." Feng Xiuxiu is popular and cheerful, and she gets a lot of accurate information.
"Ah? Is this true? You want to be on our stage for the Spring Festival Gala?" Liang Baozhen was a little surprised.
In February this year, the country held its first live Spring Festival Gala, which was unprecedented and became a national event. However, the Xu family was still immersed in the sorrow of the Xu Mingyuan and Wu Huacui cases and was inquiring about the verdict of Chen Yong, so they did not pay much attention to this event.
No one was in the mood to watch.
The second edition will be held during the Chinese New Year next year, and I think it will be on a larger scale and with more mature and sophisticated production.
"Yes! Anyway, I heard that the editors, directors, technical department, and broadcasting department may have to send people over there." Feng Xiuxiu was excited when she talked about it. This is a big show in the whole country! She didn't expect to show her face, but she was excited to work behind the scenes and go to CCTV for a while.
"If there is such an opportunity, I can learn a lot!" Liang Baozhen thought for a moment. Their TV station doesn't have any live programs yet. "If you hear any news, please let me know. If there is a chance, we will try to get it."
"good!"
Liang Baozhen gives a report at noon, and prepares scripts for the TV station in the afternoon. She also has a radio program at 3 pm, but it is shorter and is on the arts channel. It mainly introduces red songs to the audience and then plays them, which is much more relaxing.
After finishing all her work, she left early and prepared to go home to meet Shanshan and have dinner with Xu Shengjie.
——
Xu Shengjie and Qin Huai, as well as Hong Saner and his wife, met Wu Er and his wife at the Beijing Railway Station. Wu Er had been lying in wait for a while before starting his business again. Now he was acting like a big boss. More importantly, he was already in contact with Hong Kong businessmen, preparing to set up his own clothing factory in Guangdong.
"Brother Xu, Brother Qin, Brother Hong, this is your sister-in-law, right?"
"Second Brother Wu, sister-in-law."
Several people met in Beijing, and Xu Shengjie had a rare feeling of being the host. Dinner was arranged at Huifengtang. He booked a private room in advance and enthusiastically introduced the customs and culture of Beijing to Wu Er.
"It has to be said that the capital is still the capital. The grandeur of this place is different and cannot be matched by other places."
Wu Er felt that he reeked of copper, but when he looked at it in front of him, he still felt a surge of emotions.
"You are just a rough guy, stop pretending to be cultured." Wu Er's wife Ji Lan is a fashionable woman with curly hair. She speaks bluntly, especially when criticizing her man, she is merciless.
"Okay, okay, I'm a rough guy and you're an educated person, okay?" Wu Er has a big business now, but he always smiles when he looks at his wife.
It was the first time that Hong Saner's daughter-in-law met a big boss from Guangdong City. She just felt curious. She and Hong Saner fell behind and asked quietly.
"Looking at the way Second Brother Wu looks, he is actually afraid of his wife?"
Hong Saner had heard a little about their affairs, and he used the fashionable words he had learned to describe them, "This is called being controlled by your wife."
The group arrived at Huifeng Hall and sat down. Wu Er became concerned about Xu Shengjie's daughter. "Brother Xu, where is your daughter? I brought her a gift. If she doesn't come, I won't give it to her."
"My wife went home to pick her up. She should be here soon."
Liang Baozhen took Shanshan to the entrance of the restaurant and parked their bicycles, then hurried inside.
"Mom, can I have fried meatballs today?" Shanshan had eaten here once and was longing for the fried meatballs.
"They should have ordered the dishes. If they don't have any, can mommy give you an extra portion?"
"good."
When the mother and daughter entered the room, it was quite quiet. Only the sound of Wu Er and several other men were talking about business and future development. Wu Er's wife Ji Lan and Hong San's wife had little to talk about and could not get along. They greeted each other and then fell silent.
"Sorry, everyone, we are late." Liang Baozhen apologized politely and led Shanshan to sit next to Xu Shengjie.
"No, this is perfect. We just ordered the dishes. Do you want to add anything?" Wu Er looked at Shanshan and teased her again, "Shanshan, do you still remember me?"
"I remember." Shanshan was a few years older now, and was much calmer than the first time she met Wu Er. She smiled and greeted him, "Hello, Uncle Wu."
"There is also Uncle Wu's wife, Aunt Ji," Liang Baozhen reminded her.
"Hello, Aunt Ji."
Ji Lan smiled at the girl with the pink jade bracelet. No wonder Wu Er kept urging her to have a baby, especially asking for a daughter. It seemed like he was just looking for someone else's attention. "Shanshan, right? What a cute child."
"Thank you for the compliment, Auntie." Shanshan is very self-aware and knows how to thank people when they compliment her. She is a polite and good child.
"Not bad, you still remember me!" Wu Er looked at the other girl with envy and took out the gift he brought for Shanshan, a music box, a foreign gadget, "To commend you for remembering me, uncle will give you a gift."
Shanshan thanked him happily and took it, feeling a little guilty. In fact, she didn't remember it until her father reminded her.
However, she couldn't tell anyone.
Now that Uncle Wu has given her two gifts, she will definitely remember him.
Shanshan silently added a note for the bearded uncle in her memory: he had given her two gifts, and then added another note: a camera and a music box.
"There are uncles and aunts here." Liang Baozhen nodded at Qin Huai and Hong Saner on the other side.
Shanshan held the music box and hadn't figured out what it was yet, but she called out to everyone, "Uncle Qin, Uncle Hong, Aunt Zhang."
She was familiar with these three people and often came to her house for dinner. She knew that Uncle Qin and Uncle Hong worked with her father.
But she was really tired. Every time she went out, she had to call people. If there were many people at the table, she had to call many people, and she would feel thirsty after calling them one by one.
"Mom, I want some orange soda."
Liang Baozhen glanced at her daughter, "You want to drink soda again? You drank so much yesterday."
"I just called so many uncles and aunts. I am exhausted. My mouth and tongue are very tired. I need to drink orange soda to feel better."
Liang Baozhen held up her forehead and asked, who would believe it?
Xu Shengjie heard his daughter-in-law's words and agreed on behalf of his wife, "It's okay to drink a little today because we are in a good mood. But Shanshan can't drink too much either."
"Good, Dad is so nice!" Shanshan was happy. Seeing her mother looking at her, she praised her mother again, "Mom is even better!"
