Chapter 11: A Ruckus at the Wedding Banquet

Ma Yaoxiang's words were extremely harsh, like a bolt from the blue, making everyone in the courtyard boil.

"Shut up right there! Bullying a woman? What kind of man are you? I told you to shut up, did you hear me..."

Zhang Jizong and Tang Boyi rushed over at top speed upon hearing the noise, but were stopped by Ma Yaoxiang's men. Ma Yaoxiang continued to boastfully tell them everything he wanted to say. Zhang Jizong was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan, tangling with them. Tang Boyi, like him, frowned, desperately trying to squeeze towards Ma Yaoxiang.

The guests also gathered around and started talking about Shumei.

Shumei looked at those captivating eyes and listened to those heart-wrenching rumors. She was too embarrassed to go anywhere near them. She hid in her room alone, curled up at the head of the bed and cried her heart out.

"If you want me to shut up, then give me back the 2,000 yuan, or don't blame me for being rude."

2000 yuan? Where would Zhang Jizong get 2000 yuan now? He couldn't even come up with 200 yuan. Even if he sold him, he wouldn't be worth that much!

"When did I take your money?"

"You didn't take it, but Kang Shumei's father did. As long as the money isn't paid back, Kang Shumei will still be my wife. I call her my wife, so what's it got to do with you?"

"You can say whatever you want, but if you have the guts, go find her father! What are you doing here, you better get out of here right now, or I'll make you leave lying down."

"What? Are you trying to scare me? Do you think I was raised by being scared? Why don't you just take a piss and look at yourself? How can a mad dog like you really hurt me?"

Zhang Jizong no longer had the patience to argue with him any further. He ran to the eaves, picked up a carrying pole, and prepared to have a big fight. Since he couldn't solve the problem with words, he could only use force.

Wu Ju and his father Zhang Binglin stopped him when they saw what was happening. "Ji Zong! What are you doing? What the hell is going on?"

"Mother, don't worry about it. I'll explain it to you after I chase this scoundrel away."

Zhang Jizong looked into the crowd and his eyes fell on a group of men of similar age to him.

"If you still consider me your brother, then grab your weapons and attack me."

The group of people had embarrassed expressions on their faces, and no one took any action.

Hearing the sound, Tang Boyi squeezed out of the crowd and ran to the eaves to get a carrying pole.

"How dare you humiliate Shumei like this? Let's go, Ji Zong, let's show them that we mountain people are not so easy to bully."

Tang Boyi picked up the carrying pole and stood side by side with Zhang Jizong. The two rushed towards Ma Yaoxiang, and the villagers tactfully made way for them.

"Let's go too! We can't just stand by and watch outsiders bully Ji Zong! That would be too disloyal."

After Fu Jun finished speaking, he took the lead and followed with his weapons. Seeing this, the others also picked up sticks and clubs and went over to help.

Thus began a fierce fight, and the Zhang family compound was thrown into chaos. The sounds of beatings and scolding, the clatter of pots and pans, the persuasive calls of Zhang Jizong's parents, the crowing of chickens, the barking of dogs—all these sounds intertwined to create a unique symphony for the wedding banquet.

The food and wine were spilled onto the ground, and the Zhang family's courtyard was instantly in chaos. Some people even grabbed the food bowls on the table and smashed them on the head, kicking them to the ground before they could react. The villagers retreated in fear, leaving them ample space for the fight.

"Beat me, beat me to death, and I will bear all the consequences."

Ma Yaoxiang kept to himself, stayed far away, and loudly commanded his "subordinates" through a loudspeaker.

Everyone threw punches, kicks, and clubs at each other, and the fight became a riot. Zhang Jizong and his men's morale grew stronger as the fight went on. Perhaps unable to bear it any longer, the villagers began to rush over to help. Soon Ma Yaoxiang's defense was broken, and Zhang Jizong lunged at him, punching him in the face. His timid brother-in-law, seeing this, quickly hid behind a tractor.

Zhang Jizong must have been furious! His explosive power was also very strong. He kept punching and kicking Ma Yaoxiang, and Ma Yaoxiang had no power to fight back.

"I told you to talk nonsense, I told you to say..."

Zhang Jizong was like an angry lion. He pinched Ma Yaoxiang's neck with one hand and punched Ma Yaoxiang's stomach with the other hand, wishing he could eat Ma Yaoxiang alive.

Blood was oozing from the corners of Ma Yaoxiang's mouth, his clothes were covered in dust, and there was not a single clean spot on his body. His hands hung there powerlessly, and he had even lost the ability to defend himself.

Tang Boyi, who had finally escaped from the crowd, saw this scene and quickly rushed over to pull Zhang Jizong away, "Stop fighting, or someone will die."

Ma Yaoxiang fell heavily to the ground, holding his stomach and groaning.

Zhang Jizong was angry and struggled to kick Ma Yaoxiang on the ground.

"Ji Zong, calm down. Today is your and Shu Mei's wedding day. Do you really want to kill someone before you'll let it go? Have you ever thought about Shu Mei? What would happen to her if something happened to you?"

Tang Boyi's words touched Zhang Jizong's heart, and he finally calmed down. Finally remembering his bride, he pushed Tang Boyi away and began to look for Shumei.

Tang Boyi picked up the loudspeaker on the ground, picked up the dying Ma Yaoxiang, and shouted at the crowd still fighting, "Stop it! Get out of here if you want to live."

Those so-called "thugs," likely motivated by money, naturally stopped when they saw the big boss had been captured and retreated from the Zhang family compound. It seemed the principle of capturing the leader first worked everywhere.

Tang Boyi threw Ma Yaoxiang to those people and said, "Take your boss and get out of here as soon as possible."

The men helped the wounded Ma Yaoxiang onto the tractor. At this time, the driver who was hiding behind the tractor ran out timidly, shook the tractor's crank hard to start the tractor, jumped onto the tractor in a panic, and left towards the town.

The Zhang family has lost all face after the wedding ended in such a mess. Wu Ju and Zhang Binglin don't know how to clean up this mess.

They didn't know how to appease the villagers who had been beaten black and blue for helping. The two old people hid in front of the pigpen, hand in hand, frowning. Wu Ju, usually chattering and endless, was helpless at this critical moment.

"Mother, what do you think we should do?"

"How should I know what to do? Go ask your good son and daughter-in-law! We, the Zhang family, don't know what sin we committed to marry such an unlucky daughter-in-law. How can we face people in the future?"
