Boyi was confused and caught off guard by Shumei's unexpected behavior.
He stretched out his arms, hugged Shumei gently, and stroked her black hair. He didn't know whether Shumei's cry was tears of joy or because of something else, but no matter what the reason was, all he could do at this moment was to give her a hug to cling to and a gentle hug.
He hugged Shumei quietly without saying anything, wanting her to cry as much as she wanted, whether it was joy or sorrow, tears were the best medicine and could wash away everything.
After a long time, Shumei stopped crying and broke free from Boyi's arms.
Boyi gently wiped the tears from Shumei's face and said with a smile, "You! You're such a grown-up, but you're still like a child, crying at every turn."
"Bo Yi, I don't want to get married."
Hearing these harsh words, Boyi's hand, which was wandering across Shumei's face, stopped. After a moment's surprise, he smiled and said, "Shumei, stop messing around."
Boyi looked at Shumei's extremely serious expression, thinking she was telling him a joke. He scratched the bridge of her nose with his hand, which was resting on her face. This action seemed a bit childish for their ages.
"I'm not making a fuss. I don't want to get married now. I want to find Xiao Shuangwan."
Shumei confirmed to Boyi again that she was not joking with him.
"I thought it was something else. After we get married, I will accompany you to find Xiao Shuangwan. Don't worry, your children are my children. I will definitely treat them well."
Obviously, such an excuse could not convince Boyi at all.
Shumei didn't want to tell Boyi about her condition. The doctor said that surgery wasn't 100% successful. If she couldn't get off the operating table, wouldn't that be harmful to both herself and others? She'd end up leaving Boyi penniless.
Rather than taking the money for a gamble, it would be better to accept it calmly and leave the money for medical treatment to the living. But, how can I make Boyi give up the idea of getting married?
"Bo Yi, if one day I am gone, will you still be as good to Xiao Shuang Ning as you are now?"
"Pfft! What are you talking about? Spit it out right now."
Boyi felt that what Shumei said was unlucky, so he quickly asked her to spit it out, and he continued to speak affirmatively.
"You don't need to ask such a question. I know you understand what I'm thinking."
Yes! How could I question Boyi? After all these years, don't I know what kind of person he is? This is simply unnecessary.
Since Xiao Shuangning has Boyi to take care of her, then he really has nothing to worry about. The rest of the time, is to find Xiao Shuangwan, to see if he has the fate to meet her before he dies.
"Okay, it's getting late. I'm going to cook. If you have anything, we can talk about it tomorrow."
Anyway, she couldn't find an excuse to convince Boyi for the time being, so Shumei used cooking as an excuse to stop arguing with Boyi.
After dinner, Shumei returned to Qianqian's place. She was confused and didn't know how to face Boyi. Qianqian, who was lying beside her, had already fallen asleep, sleeping so soundly, but she tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.
What should he do? The arrow was on the string, and it had to be released. Avoiding it wouldn't solve the problem. It was a dilemma to get married, and it was a dilemma not to get married. Either way, it would only hurt Boyi.
Perhaps, telling Boyi the truth is the best explanation to him.
Thinking of this, Shumei put on her clothes, got out of bed quietly, found some paper and pen, and prepared to tell Boyi the truth in the form of a letter.
Under the yellow incandescent light, Shumei's face looked particularly haggard. She held the pen tightly in her hand, and the pen moved slowly across the letter paper, and one untidy word after another appeared on the letter paper.
Bo Yi:
I'm sorry, I'm about to slip my tongue again. I don't know if it's just some bad luck, but everything I do and everyone I meet never ends well. I can't grow old with you. Just yesterday, the doctor told me I have breast cancer. I only have three months to live, at most. I want to use the rest of my life to do what I should do, what a mother should do. By the time you read this, I'll have already embarked on the journey to find my daughter.
Since I am not blessed enough to accompany you until old age, why should I let you go through the process of marriage again at the last minute? This wedding should be left to the person who can truly accompany you until old age.
When I leave, you must take care of yourself, because you promised to help me take care of Xiao Shuangning. You must live well and help me raise Xiao Shuangning to adulthood.
——Shumei’s last words
She had a lot of things she wanted to say to Boyi, but when she really picked up the pen, she didn't know what to write.
Xin Cheng, she was already in tears.
In fact, what reason did she have to ask Boyi to do this and that for her? The last sentence asking Boyi to take care of Xiao Shuangning for her was just to help Boyi forget her as soon as possible, get over the pain as soon as possible, live a good life, and have some spiritual sustenance.
But then again, Boyi and Xiao Youchen still had him, so how could he be without spiritual support? It seemed like I was being superfluous again. Time is the best healer. In a few years, maybe he'd meet someone he likes again, and he'd forget about me.
Just like now, all that appeared in my mind was Boyi's shadow, and Ji Zong's appearance was so vague, so vague that I couldn't even remember what Ji Zong looked like.
The next morning, before daybreak, Shumei pulled Qianqian up.
Qianqian rubbed her sleepy eyes and glanced out the window. She fell back onto the bed, muttering, "It's not even daybreak yet! Let me sleep a little longer."
