Chapter 113: Leaving without Saying Goodbye

She had already turned the town upside down, and she planned to go to the county, and then to a few nearby towns. Sitting on the bus, looking at the photos in her hands and the gradually unfamiliar scenery outside the window, her heart was filled with nothing but pain.

She didn't know how far she could go on this journey to find her daughter at the cost of her life, and whether she would ever return.

Shumei knew that Boyi would be eager to know her thoughts and would come to her early in the morning to ask her why. So today she got up earlier than usual and caught the first bus to the county town.

As she expected, Qianqian had just finished washing up and pushed open the door of the barber shop when Boyi came in in a hurry.

"Qianqian, is Shumei up?"

Qianqian turned around upon hearing the sound and looked at Boyi, who looked anxious. She asked sternly, "Did you bully Sister Shumei?"

"Where do you come from? I'll go in and find her."

Boyi didn't understand why Qianqian asked this, but he didn't care to think too much now. He just wanted to see Shumei and take her back to the village to welcome the upcoming wedding. As he spoke, he walked towards the inner room without any hesitation. Qianqian didn't even have time to tell him that Shumei had left.

After searching in vain, Boyi had no choice but to ask Qianqian again.

"Qianqian, is Shumei out so early?"

Qianqian dug out the letter left by Shumei from the cabinet and slapped it on Boyi, "Here! This is the letter Sister Shumei left for you."

Boyi hurriedly opened the envelope and read what Shumei had written from beginning to end.

The contents of the letter were undoubtedly a bolt from the blue for Boyi. He had thought that the clouds would finally clear and the moon would appear, but he never expected Shumei to be suffering from such a disease. This was like pouring a bucket of cold water on his warm heart.

He could even hear the sound of his heart breaking into pieces, and felt as if he were being pierced by thousands of arrows.

The letter fell from his hand to the ground. His face turned pale, his brow furrowed with worry, and he collapsed on the sofa, holding his head with both hands and pulling his hair tightly.

"What happened? Why do you look so grim?"

Qianqian bent down, picked up the letter from the ground, and carefully read every word on it. Her expression changed from confusion to surprise, and then to grief.

"How could she do this? Such a big thing happened, and she didn't tell me. I feel like she's acting weird today! Why are you still standing there? Let's go after her! Go to the bus station and tell Sister Shumei that we're going on a long trip and that she will definitely take the bus."

After reading the letter, Qianqian quickly dragged Boyi out of the store. After hearing Qianqian's words, Boyi woke up as if from a dream. Before Qianqian could close the store door, he ran towards the bus station. Qianqian hurriedly locked the store door and followed him.

Boyi came to the bus station and frantically searched for Shumei in the crowd. He grabbed everyone he saw and asked them if they had seen Shumei. The words "anxiety" were written all over his face.

Qianqian was more careful. She thought that searching aimlessly was not a good idea. Before leaving, she took out Shumei's photo and held it in her hand so that she could ask people if they had seen Shumei.

The two of them almost turned the bicycle station upside down, but in the end they couldn't find any trace of Shumei.

Boyi walked out of the bus station disappointedly and sat on the stone steps at the entrance of the bus station, looking distraught.

Qianqian tried her best. She asked almost everyone in the bus station, but no one could give her a surprise. She didn't even hear a word that seemed like she had seen him somewhere before.

She sat down beside Boyi in frustration and tried to comfort him, "Brother Boyi, don't worry. Didn't Sister Shumei say she was going to look for the child? Maybe she'll come back after she finds her. Or maybe she'll just go home when she's tired."

"But she's sick! This disease can be fatal if left untreated. I'm afraid... I'm afraid she won't have enough time to come back. I just don't understand. Why didn't she tell me about such a serious illness? We're going to be husband and wife soon, and we should share the joys and sorrows. Why does she still treat me as an outsider? If she told me, I would have cured her illness even if it meant losing everything I had. Even if not for me, why didn't she think about Xiao Shuangning? If... if she really was gone, what would Xiao Shuangning do?"

At this moment, Boyi felt not only worried about Shumei but also a little bit of blame for her. He didn't understand why Shumei couldn't face all this with him.

When Ji Zong was like that before, she would still take the trouble to stay by his side. But why didn't she even give him a chance to share his hardships? He couldn't understand why.

"Maybe Sister Shumei doesn't want you to suffer with her. She's thinking about you."

Qianqian heard the dissatisfaction in Boyi's heart, she patted Boyi's shoulder and comforted him.

Looking at the man she deeply loved, Qianqian thought, if it were her, she would never give up fighting against fate, and would definitely strive for it, because love should be about staying together, not hurting each other, not separation of life and death, and not easy compromise.

For his sake? Boyi felt Qianqian's excuse was a bit far-fetched. She was so irresponsible about their relationship, yet she still claimed to be thinking about him. If money could solve a problem, then it wasn't a problem. So what if he lost everything? So what if he had to sell everything he had? For Shumei, he didn't care about these material things.

What's more, he is now able to bear all this, and she made the decision without asking. Boyi's thoughts are a bit extreme. He thinks Shumei doesn't love him enough, at least not as much as she loves Jizong.

"She doesn't love me enough in her heart."

Boyi punched the stone steps, and the impact of his fist on the ground made a loud noise, breaking the skin on his hand.

"What are you doing? Your hand is broken, how can you say that to Sister Shumei? You've known her for a long time, don't you know her character? She always thinks of others first, completely disregarding her own gains and losses."
