"Shumei, are you awake?"
Shumei regained her life and the first person she saw when she opened her eyes was Wencai. Wencai saw Shumei wake up and asked her excitedly.
"I'm not dead?"
"What do you mean by 'not dying'? If you die, who can I ask for the debt? I'm telling you, you can't die before me. You have to cherish your life doubly and strive to live on, so that you can properly repay me, your great creditor."
Wencai's words moved Shumei to tears. She really didn't know how to thank Wencai for his kindness. She had never been so worthy of such kindness. No matter how difficult the times were, there would always be a lucky star to help her. Shumei, who had just returned from the underworld, actually felt that God had been kind to her.
Shumei turned over and tried to sit up in bed.
Wencai hurriedly stopped him, "Don't move. The doctor said that you can't move too much during the recovery period. It's best not to move for the first three days. If you want to do anything, just tell me directly."
Wencai was providing money, people, and time. Shumei was flattered! She didn't dare to disappoint Wencai's kindness, so she could only lie down obediently and be a little sheep who obeyed his orders.
Wencai personally fed Shumei food and medicine, spoonful by spoonful. He followed the doctor's instructions strictly, fearing he might make a mistake, and he would double-check and think before doing anything.
Qing Ke started searching frantically as soon as she left Wencai's company, going from hospital to hospital. The name that had been lingering in her ears was her only clue to finding Wencai.
"Hello, which ward is Kang Shumei in?"
This was already the fourth hospital she had looked for, and it was the most patient thing she had ever done in her life. Even after hitting a wall four times, she had never thought of giving up.
"Please wait a moment. I'll help you find it." The nurse responded to Qing Ke with a smile and began to look through the registration book at the front desk. "I'm sorry, we don't have a patient named Kang Shumei here."
"Okay, thank you!"
Although Qing Ke was furious, the nurse was smiling at her, so she couldn't hit someone who was smiling. She managed a thank you, hurried out of the hospital, and drove to the next stop.
As soon as Boyi returned home, he fell ill and lay in bed in a coma for a whole day and night.
Fortunately, Qianqian came back with him, otherwise he would have died of illness at home and no one would have known.
Qianqian stayed at Boyi's house and took good care of Boyi.
When Boyi had a fever, she used the liquor at the bottom of a bowl to massage his back and wipe his forehead to cool him down. She also went to the village clinic to buy medicine for Boyi. Boyi was drowsy and unable to swallow the medicine himself, so she ground it into powder, stirred it into water, and fed him one spoonful at a time.
She was busy running back and forth like this, without sleeping all night.
God helps those who work hard. The next day, Boyi finally woke up, his fever subsided, and he felt much better.
Qianqian specially made stomach-nourishing millet porridge for him. He ate three bowls in one breath. Qianqian sat next to him, watching Boyi eat, fascinated and with a satisfied expression on her face.
Watching Boyi eat the food she cooked herself is something Qianqian dreams of. She never thought that she would have such an opportunity again in this life.
She was enjoying this self-deceiving happiness when she suddenly heard someone knocking at the door. The voice seemed to be deliberately lowered, as if wanting the person inside to hear it, but afraid of being heard by others.
"Boyi, Boyi, open the door."
Zhang Binglin's back was already somewhat hunched, and his complexion wasn't as good as it had been a few years ago. He stood outside the iron gate of Boyi's house, looking around furtively, putting his hands to his mouth, and shouting into the house.
Boyi heard the sound and pricked up his ears to listen carefully.
"Qianqian, it's Uncle Binglin, go open the door."
Although Boyi regained consciousness, his legs were still weak and he had no strength to move. He had no choice but to ask Yu Qianqian to help him with even the smallest task, such as opening the door.
Qianqian stood up and led Zhang Binglin into the room. Looking at Boyi lying on the bed, pale and weak, Zhang Binglin sat on the stool in front of the bed and asked with concern: "Boyi, what's wrong? Are you sick?"
"Alas! I've been lazy these past two years and lacked exercise. A little cold wind can subdue me completely."
"Has Shumei been found? If we can't find her, will her illness be incurable?"
"I asked the doctor, and he said if it really reaches the late stage, there's no cure. Uncle, I really have tried my best, cough cough..."
Boyi didn’t know if it was because of depression, but he would cough violently when he got excited.
Qianqian hurried forward to help Boyi with his back pain and poured him some water to moisten his throat.
Zhang Binglin took out a small cloth bag from his belt, untied the rope and handed it to Boyi.
"This is the private money I saved. It's not much. You know your aunt's temper. It's just this much. It took me a long time to save it. Take it. This is all I can do for Shumei and you. I hope you don't think it's too little."
Boyi opened it and took a look. There were one cent, five cents, ten cents, fifty cents, one dollar, two dollars... maybe two or three hundred yuan! But because the denominations were so small, they filled up a whole bag.
Boyi returned the bag to Zhang Binglin. "Uncle, this is what you worked so hard to save. Keep it for yourself. If Shumei can't be found, no amount of money will be of any use. If she could come back, I would sell this house, my blood, or my kidney to get her medical treatment. It's a pity that she doesn't understand our painstaking efforts and has to run away to bear all this alone."
As soon as Boyi mentioned Shumei, his expression became unusually heavy again.
"Boyi, don't be sad. Just do your best. Let everything take its course. Let God decide everything. I'm going back first. If you stay out for too long, your aunt will definitely nag you again when I get back."
