Zhang Xiaoqin rode her bicycle to the clothes shop in town. She still had some extra money, so it was time to buy herself some decent clothes.
After careful selection, she bought herself a hip-hugging leather skirt, a tight sleeveless T-shirt, and a pair of flesh-colored long stockings.
As soon as she bought the clothes, she couldn't wait to put them on. The slogan "clothes make the man, beauty depends on beauty" was absolutely true. Zhang Xiaoqin looked so beautiful in this outfit that it made men salivate, like a fashionable lady at the forefront of fashion.
Zhang Xiaoqin took pictures of herself in the mirror again and again while wearing her clothes, and the boss next to her kept praising her.
"This dress looks so beautiful on you. It's really beautiful. There are so many young ladies selling clothes here, but none of them look as good as you."
"Really? I also feel like this dress is tailor-made for me."
Zhang Xiaoqin is not that modest, she brags openly.
The boss looked him up and down and said thoughtfully, "But I still feel like something is missing."
After listening to her boss's words, Zhang Xiaoqin looked at herself in the mirror from head to toe.
The boss kept scratching his head and pointing his finger at Zhang Xiaoqin, his mouth wide open as if he had suddenly realized something. "I know what I'm missing. Shoes. I'm missing a pair of matching shoes."
Upon hearing this, Zhang Xiaoqin lowered her head and looked at her worn-out rubber sandals.
These shoes! They really don't match this bright and beautiful outfit, but I've already squandered all my money, so how can I have any money left to buy a pair of suitable shoes?
She didn't waste any more time talking to the boss, walked out of the store, and rode her bike back to Wang Changxing Village.
She hurried home to make money, as she had many things to buy: a phone, a bicycle, a necklace, earrings, shoes, and more beautiful clothes. What she couldn't wait to buy the most was a pair of shoes that would suit her.
Little Shuangning snuggled in Zhang Binglin's arms and was not happy about going home.
Zhang Binglin stroked the little Shuangning in his arms with his hand. Looking through the car window, he saw the people and things outside the window gradually becoming familiar. He felt uneasy.
He had no idea what kind of storm would befall him and Xiao Shuangning. He didn't care. After all, he'd been through it for decades, and at most, Wu Ju would scold him. But what about Xiao Shuangning? She was so young, so innocent. It was all his fault for being useless and bringing trouble upon Xiao Shuangning.
He was struggling with this when a police car arrived at the village entrance. The words of the public security officer interrupted his thoughts.
"Uncle, we've arrived at Yuanji Village. This car can't drive in. Shall we get off and walk in?" A policeman sitting in the front passenger seat saw that the road leading into the village was narrow, turned his head and asked Zhang Binglin.
He was extremely grateful to the police for sending him and his grandson back to the village. Moreover, the police had treated them with courtesy from beginning to end. For the first time, he felt that there were still many good people in the world! He was also very grateful to those who helped him.
Hearing the sound, Zhang Binglin quickly responded and helped Xiao Shuangning get out of the car, "Hey!"
This police car was a rare visitor to the villagers, and they all came to watch the excitement.
When they saw Zhang Binglin and Xiao Shuangning getting out of the car, they all came over to say hello.
"Binglin! What crime have you committed? Why did you get into trouble with the police?"
A village man of the same age as Zhang Binglin circled the police car twice. Then he approached Zhang Binglin, glanced at the two police officers who had escorted him back, and asked Zhang Binglin in a low voice.
The surrounding villagers were also talking and pointing, with curiosity written all over their faces.
Zhang Binglin slapped the man on the arm. "What are you talking about? What crime? The police officer was just trying to bring my grandparents and grandchildren back home out of kindness. Stop talking nonsense."
"Uncle, let's go! Let's send you home. We still have to rush back to the county." A public security comrade urged Zhang Binglin. The village was still far away from the county town, and they didn't want to delay too long.
"Comrade Public Security, why don't you go back first? We're already at the village entrance. We can go home on our own. We've been walking this road for decades, so we'll remember it."
This time, Zhang Binglin lied to the police, saying he didn't know the way home and asked them to take him home. The police asked for Zhang Binglin's address and agreed to his request without hesitation.
"That won't do. We must get you two home safely. This is the leader's instruction." This public security comrade was quite responsible. He would not return until he had sent Zhang Binglin and her daughter home.
They meant well, and Zhang Binglin couldn't refuse. Besides, they came all the way to send him and Xiao Shuangning back, but they didn't even let them have a sip of water. This seemed a bit too unreasonable.
Zhang Binglin had no choice but to agree, and surrounded by villagers, he led two police officers towards his home.
Wu Ju had been feeling really depressed these past two days. Her husband took their little granddaughter and ran away from home, and her own daughter disappeared without a trace after just a few words. She hadn't been home for two days and one night, leaving her alone in an empty house.
She had lived in a noisy environment for most of her life, and she was not used to the sudden silence at home. She was almost sick from holding it in, and when she saw the chickens, ducks, and geese in the yard, she felt particularly close to them and couldn't help but want to go up and chat with them.
Before Zhang Binglin and the police arrived, she was squatting in the yard, talking to herself to the chickens in the yard.
Zhang Binglin and his group arrived outside the Zhang family's yard, and Zhang Binglin politely led the police into the yard.
Wu Ju heard Zhang Binglin's voice and turned around excitedly. She originally thought she was hallucinating, but she didn't expect that when she turned around, she really saw Zhang Binglin. She was excited and angry.
