He was the only bachelor in the village. With favorable policies, he received some subsidies. He also found work to earn money to supplement his family income, and his life was manageable.
"Really? You seem to be making me feel embarrassed. You're not bad at all! You're dressed smarter than before, and you really look like a man who has a woman to take care of him."
Niu Wa scratched his head and smiled awkwardly, as if he was feeling a little embarrassed.
His clothes were not fancy, but he was not as sloppy as before. At least they were clean and decent.
"A favor?"
"What's the matter? Tell me."
"Do you have any money? Lend me twenty dollars?"
"Twenty dollars? Let me find it."
Niu Wa started searching in his pockets without thinking.
Zhang Xiaoqin looked eagerly at the money he had found. She had almost squandered all the money she had on her and was really short of money.
One dollar, five dollars, ten dollars, unexpectedly he actually collected twenty dollars.
He respectfully handed a handful of small change to Zhang Xiaoqin.
"I counted it, and it's exactly twenty dollars."
Zhang Xiaoqin glanced around to make sure no one saw her, then took the money and put it in her pocket.
"Thank you. I'll come to your house to thank you personally tonight. Remember to leave the door open for me."
Zhang Xiaoqin whispered to Niu Wa and walked straight towards the village entrance.
Zhang Xiaoqin's words made Niu Wa a little confused. He stood there, pondering Zhang Xiaoqin's words carefully.
What did she mean? Could it be, could it be? No, it couldn't be. But if she really didn't have that intention, why would she come to thank me in the middle of the night?
Niu Wa was puzzled and had no mood to do anything all day. He went home and waited for night to fall.
Zhang Xiaoqin had learned from her experience dealing with Wang Changxing, so she set her first target on Niu Wa. However, this was her own territory, so she couldn't be too ostentatious. This family was her only support, and she couldn't afford to be driven out again.
After dinner in the evening, the whole family sat in the main room watching TV.
Although Zhang Xiaoqin was watching TV on the surface, her heart was already with Han. She was thinking about what excuse she could find to slip away.
Originally, I planned to wait until Wu Ju and the others fell asleep before sneaking out, but now Wu Ju and the others were so engrossed in watching TV that they would definitely not go to bed for a while.
She sat on the sofa rattan chair, looking restless.
Finally, she had an idea and thought of a way to get out.
She first ran to hide the little toilet paper left in the house, then carried her bag and walked out of the room. She said to Wu Ju, who was engrossed in watching TV, "Mom, I'm going to go out for a while."
"Where are you going so late? Be careful not to run into the unlucky ghosts."
Zhang Xiaoqin stood at the door of the main room, ready to leave.
"Go get some toilet paper."
"I'm not in a hurry to use it. I'll go tomorrow. Besides, do you remember if there's any toilet paper left in the villa?"
"No, I've checked it, Mother. I can't wait until tomorrow. I need it tonight."
"Tonight?" Wu Ju immediately understood what Zhang Xiaoqin meant by buying toilet paper, but she didn't understand why she needed it now. She asked puzzledly, "I don't think you're going to buy it these days! Isn't it the end of the month?"
"Oh! Mother, if I say it's going to be used, then it's going to be used! Why are you talking so much nonsense? How can something like this be so punctual? It's snowing in June! What's so strange about this? I won't say any more. If you're tired, go to bed early and just leave the door open for me."
Zhang Xiaoqin argued with Wu Ju, and without waiting for Wu Ju to say anything, she ran out of the yard.
"Xiaoqin, Xiaoqin..."
Wu Ju got up and ran out the door, calling Zhang Xiaoqin's name several times.
Zhang Xiaoqin heard it, but was unwilling to respond and walked quickly towards Niu Wa's house.
"This girl is so impatient. It's dark and windy here. I just wanted her to put on the flashlight. But she ran away like greased feet." Wu Ju muttered to herself and went back into the house.
Taking advantage of the moonlight, Zhang Xiaoqin quickly arrived at Niu Wa's house.
Niu Wa was really obedient and actually left the door open for her. There was also a dim light on in the room.
Zhang Xiaoqin was secretly delighted. Just as she expected, this little boy had taken the bait and was probably anxiously waiting for her arrival.
Before entering, Zhang Xiaoqin glanced around to make sure no one was there before pushing the door open and sneaking inside. Once inside, she closed the door and locked it from the inside.
Niu Wa's house has only two rooms: a main room, a bedroom, and another room which is not really a room, but a half kitchen covered with thatch.
The lights in the main room were on, and the lights in the bedroom were also on.
Niu Wa heard the sound of the door opening and closing, and hurried out of the house and saw Zhang Xiaoqin locking the door.
"You coming?"
This single man and woman were in the same room late at night, and Zhang Xiaoqin even locked the door on purpose. Niu Wa could figure out what was going on even with his toes.
"Um!"
"Hurry up and sit down. Do you want some water? I'll pour it for you."
Niu Wa hurriedly went to the square table to get the kettle, ready to pour water for Zhang Xiaoqin.
"Okay! I just had a meal and I'm full! I won't drink water."
“That—that—”
Although Niu Wa knew Zhang Xiaoqin's intention, he didn't know what to do.
After all, Zhang Xiaoqin was usually too arrogant, and there was no news of her doing anything bad, so he didn't want to be branded as someone who flirted with decent women.
"Why don't you invite me in to sit down?" Zhang Xiaoqin pointed at Niu Wa's bedroom, indicating that she wanted to go in and sit down.
