When Shumei heard this, a grateful smile appeared on her embarrassed and awkward face. She thanked him repeatedly, "Uncle Fu, thank you for your trouble. I will definitely give you a red envelope to ward off bad luck when the time comes."
"Alright, we're all neighbors. It's just a small favor, nothing to worry about. Just get out of here!"
"Hey! Thank you so much to you and Aunt Fu. I will always remember your kindness. If you need me in the future, please let me know."
After Shumei finished speaking, she walked out of the room accompanied by Fu's mother.
Zhang Xiaoqin said awkwardly, "Dad, I'm really sorry to bother you this time."
Father Fu said nothing more, and waved her to leave. She then walked out of the room and went to the main hall to arrange the bamboo fence for Zhang Binglin's body.
Seeing that Zhang Binglin was being taken care of by Zhang Xiaoqin and the others, Shumei embarrassedly brought up the idea of going home. "Sister, Dad needs your help here. The two kids don't know I'm here. I have to go back and settle them down, make them dinner, and then come back."
"Haha! You're the only one busy, and we're all idle. Daddy's dead, and you still have so many troubles. Daddy was so protective of you when he was alive, but it seems like you've really raised an ungrateful person."
"Sister, I really don't want to be lazy. The children are still young and can't take care of themselves. I will be back soon."
Zhang Xiaoqin wanted to fight back, but was interrupted by Fu's mother.
"Shumei, you go! You can't be careless with the child. Don't you have me and your uncle Fu? You can rest assured to take care of the child. We are here to help you keep an eye on him." Mother Fu said earnestly, her words full of sincerity.
Zhang Xiaoqin was so angry that her face turned blue. She wanted to refute, but she thought it was not the right time to argue, so she had to give up.
Shumei was deeply moved. She grabbed Fu's mother's hand and thanked her repeatedly, "Aunt Fu, thank you so much. I will try my best to arrange for the two children as soon as possible."
Mother Fu nodded in response, and this time Shumei hurried out of the Zhang family yard and headed towards her own home.
The two children were very obedient. Xiao Youchen had cooked noodles for Xiao Shuangning. Not only that, he also fed the pigs.
The two children turned on the lights and sat at the door of the main room, waiting for Shumei to come back.
Little Shuangning was lying in little Youchen's arms, fast asleep.
When Xiao Youchen's wife Shumei came in, my heart finally settled down.
Shumei hadn't come home so late, and he had a lot on his mind. He was afraid she'd abandoned them both. But he was even more worried about whether something had happened to her: a car accident? A fall off a cliff? A fall into the river?

Little Shuangning seemed like nothing had happened. She fell into a deep sleep after eating. I don’t know if she was really not worried, or didn’t understand, or was just pretending to be indifferent.
"Youchen, Mom was delayed by something. I hope I didn't make you worry. I'll go get you something to eat right away." Shumei said anxiously as she walked towards the main room.
Little Youchen put his little finger to his lips and gestured to her to speak softly, for he was afraid of waking up little Shuangning.
"Mom, be quiet, my sister is asleep, take her to the room to sleep!"
Shumei looked at Xiao Shuangning, who was sleeping soundly on Xiao Youchen's legs. A relieved smile appeared on her face, and she leaned over and stroked Xiao Shuangning's smooth and white face.
"This little girl is such a sleepyhead. She can fall asleep even when she's hungry. Come on! I'll carry her into the house first, and then wake her up to eat when dinner is ready."
As Shumei spoke, she reached out and picked up Xiao Shuangning.
"Mom, my sister and I have already eaten."
Shumei asked in surprise: "Have you eaten?"
"We cooked noodles. You know, I only know how to make this. In the future, you have to teach me how to make more. This way, we won't go hungry when you're not around."
Shumei was so relieved. These two children really made her worry-free. She stroked little Youchen's head, nodded vigorously, and carried little Shuangning back into the house.
Shumei took off Xiao Shuangning's clothes and shoes, covered her with a quilt, and kissed her on the forehead.
Xiao Shuangning woke up from her dream and grabbed her hand in a daze, "Mom, you're back!"
Before Shumei could respond, she turned over and continued to sleep soundly.
Shumei smiled, shook her head and walked out of the room.
Xiao Youchen stood there dejectedly, holding a bowl of noodles.
Shumei noticed that the child was unhappy, so she squatted down and asked, "Youchen, what's wrong? You have school tomorrow! Wash your feet and go to bed!"
"Mom, these are the noodles I left for you, but—but they've become a mess."
"So this is why Xiao Youchen is unhappy?"
Xiao Youchen nodded vigorously, looking like he wanted to cry but couldn't.
Shumei gently stroked Xiao Youchen's head, took the noodles from his hand, and said with a smile: "Silly boy, as long as it's made by you, even if it's mushy, mom will still be happy to eat it."
Shumei ate clumps of noodles in big mouthfuls, enjoying them very much.
Seeing her like this, Xiao Youchen's frown finally relaxed.
"Okay, go to bed now! Mom still has a lot of things to do these days. If you come back in the afternoon and I'm not here, you should take care of your sister and do your homework. Don't run around outside. Mom will cook tomorrow morning's meal in the pot. You can get up and eat by yourselves and then go to school. Is that okay?"
"Well, Mom, don't worry, I will take good care of my sister. I'll set the alarm clock and wake my sister up on time." After saying this, Xiao Youchen ran towards his room.
