Chapter 318: Shumei takes over the corpse raising site

Food is the most important thing for people. If Shumei really draws that piece of "corpse-raising land", her already tight life will face new difficulties.

If it were dry land, it could still be coped with, but this is a dry field, and rice can only be grown in dry land!

"Village chief, you have to be fair! She is obviously cheating. She must have known that Brother Hua had seized the 'corpse-raising land', so she deliberately said that what Brother Hua had seized did not count." Shumei wanted the village chief to help her make the decision.

The village chief had an embarrassed expression on his face. He wanted to be a hands-off village chief and was unwilling to get involved in the affairs of these gossips.

"Well... as an outsider, I can't say much. I just tried my best to be fair and just in drawing lots. Well... what the Hua family's wife said is also true. She is the one who makes all the decisions in her family."

After hearing what the village chief said, Sister Hua smiled confidently.

The village chief cast his gaze on Shumei. "As for..." He couldn't make his words sound right, so he simply pushed the problem away. "You should solve it yourselves. We're all from the same village. If there's anything, we can talk it out. Don't ruin the relationship."

"Village Chief..." Shumei wanted to plead with him again, but he just stood up and left, saying he was going to the bathroom and that the village accountant would help him record it.

Sure enough, relying on heaven or earth is not as good as relying on yourself. The obvious facts can be distorted by them.

"Anyway, I don't want the paper balls in this basin. How about we put the paper balls back and draw lots again fairly and impartially?" Shumei suggested to Sister Hua.

"You're dreaming. Do you want to? Besides, why bother giving a damn about me?" Sister Hua was determined to take advantage of this opportunity. She handed the paper ball to the accountant, "Accountant Xiao, please help me record it quickly. I haven't fed the pigs yet! I don't have time to mess around here."

"This is mine." Shumei said, and wanted to go up and grab the paper ball.

As soon as she stretched out her hand, Sister Hua grabbed it and said, "What are you doing? Are you trying to snatch it by force? Do you want to fight?"

Before Shumei could refute, the fierce Sister Hua started to attack. Shumei couldn't just stand there and let her hit her in vain. The two of them soon started to fight.

Sister Hua's man is not really a man. When the women quarreled, he not only did not try to stop them, but he even helped beat Shumei. But for Sister Hua, he was really a good man.

The two men fought for a long time, and were only separated after the villagers persuaded them vigorously. Both of them had minor injuries.

The village chief then persuaded Sister Hua, "Daughter-in-law of the Hua family, how about you each give in and arrest him again fairly and impartially?"

Sister Hua said, "Don't even think about it!"

Shumei: "Please let the village chief decide!"

The two people's answers made the village chief embarrassed.

"Kang Shumei, this piece of land is branded with the name of my Hua family. It is impossible for anyone to take it. Haven't you heard that depriving someone of their food and clothing is like killing their parents? If you want to be the murderer, I will accompany you to the end and will definitely repay you tooth for tooth. Then we will have no good life." Sister Hua shouted at Kang Shumei in her deafening voice.

"You...are going too far."

"I am going too far. You have never seen me go too far. Even if my family's land cannot produce any food for three years, we will not starve to death. If all your land cannot produce a single grain of food for three years, will your two precious children have to beg for food?" Sister Hua's eyes were full of murderous intent.

Shumei knew full well that Sister Hua was a ruthless character. She remembered one time when sheep from the neighboring village broke free from their leashes and ate some of her family's wheat seedlings. She went to their house to seek justice, but the family was rude and unreasonable, offering her no satisfactory explanation.

Within a few nights, all the family's crops were uprooted, leaving them with nothing to harvest that season.

Shumei didn't want to argue with her any further when she thought about it. The fact that she couldn't grow any crops on this piece of land was already a headache for her. If Sister Hua repeated what she had done three years later, she and her two children would be left with nothing.

Shumei looked at the triumphant Sister Hua and dared not say another word.

She had promised Boyi that she would take good care of little Youchen. She couldn't let the two children be implicated in her fight for justice. She had gone through so many ups and downs. Wasn't it just a "corpse breeding ground"? It wouldn't be a problem for her. She would definitely find a way to solve it.

Seeing that she didn't say anything, Sister Hua thought she had conceded, so she swaggered towards the village chief with the paper ball in her hand. As she passed by Shumei, she gloated, "Is this right?"

Shumei accepted the land silently. After registering it, she returned home dejectedly.

In the evening, the family had dinner together. Shumei, still reeling from the day's events, looked unhappy.

Xiao Youchen noticed that Shumei was worried and asked tentatively, "Mom, what's wrong with you? Did you encounter any difficulties?"

Shumei finally came back to her senses and forced a smile to reply to Xiao Youchen, "No...it's okay. Come on, you've worked hard studying, and now is the time for growth, so eat more."

Shumei doesn't know how to hide it at all, and Xiao Youchen is so smart, how could he believe what Shumei said?

"Mom, is this about the land division in the village?"

"How could that be? When the land is divided, each person draws a lot and gets a piece of land. What do I have to worry about?" Shumei tried her best to hide her inner guilt.

However, her cover-up didn't seem to work. Little Youchen saw through it immediately, "Mom, please don't lie to me. You know you've never been able to lie to me since we were little. Because you really can't lie. The word 'lie' is written all over your face."
