Chapter 329: Adoption Failed

Isn't it just adopting a child? Why are there so many clauses? I see other families just picking up children and raising them anyway, right?

Niu Wa muttered to himself in a low voice, with a look of impatience on his face.

Zhang Xiaoqin couldn't wait to rush back: "Yes, yes, yes, Dean, if there is nothing else, can you take us to see the children now?"

"Okay, okay, but before we go through the adoption procedures, we will confirm your situation with the relevant departments." The director closed the notebook on the table and stood up to take them to choose a child.

Living conditions were poor in those years, and coupled with strict family planning regulations, it was hard to find healthy boys, but healthy girls were plentiful.

This welfare home is overcrowded, and the director is eagerly waiting for people to come and adopt, so the director treats those who come to adopt as guests of honor.

"Sure, we're not in a rush with the adoption process. Let's choose a child first. Let's finalize things first and maybe develop a relationship with the child first."

Zhang Xiaoqin spoke very tactfully, and the dean was delighted to hear her, laughing so hard that he couldn't stop.

The two followed the director to the yard where the children were playing. The director asked his assistant to call all the children over. They lined up in front of them as if they were in a physical education class.

Men and women, tall and short, stood in two long rows, some with eye problems, some with leg problems, and of course many children with all their limbs intact and everything normal.

The dean clapped his hands and said to the children in a very kind tone, "Children, call for help."

"Hello, uncle! Hello, auntie!" the children shouted in unison. It can be seen that the welfare home has disciplined them well.

Zhang Xiaoqin felt happy as she listened to these childish voices and looked at these lovely smiling faces.

"Hello, Auntie bought some candies for you and will distribute them to everyone now." She took the candies from Niu Wa, walked to the children, and distributed the candies in the bag to them.

After handing out candies, she returned to the dean and said with a smile, "Hello, children! Dear, these children are so cute!"

"Yes! I don't know why their parents were so cruel to abandon them. Okay, you choose! Once you've chosen, we'll help you with the paperwork as soon as possible."

"Hey! Thank you, Dean." Zhang Xiaoqin turned and winked at Niu Wa, urging him to find Fu Jiaorong quickly. "Wood, what are you standing there for? Go and choose."

Niu Wa stumbled up to the children and began looking for Fu Jiaorong.

These children, like commodities, stood there waiting for buyers to pick them up.

Niu Wa walked around the children but couldn't find Fu Jiaorong. He thought he was seeing things, so he turned back and looked again, but still to no avail.

He returned to Zhang Xiaoqin dejectedly, frowned and shook his head at her.

Zhang Xiaoqin lowered her voice and asked anxiously, "What do you mean by shaking your head?"

The dean noticed that Niu Wa's expression was not right and asked, "What's wrong? Didn't you choose someone you were satisfied with?"

"This... no..." Niu Wa stammered, not knowing how to respond to the dean.

"These children are all very smart and intelligent. Don't worry, they are all easy-going children. Of course, they are also pitiful children. If you adopt them, you will not only fulfill your wish as a parent, but also do a good deed."

The dean kept saying nice things, she was worried that Niu Wa and the others would not like it.

"Say something?" Shumei was so anxious that she was almost going crazy. She asked Niu Wa with a frown.

Niu Wa stammered, "This..."

Zhang Xiaoqin saw that he had something to hide, so she turned around and said to the dean with an awkward smile, "Dean, let's discuss this."

The dean thought for a moment and replied, "Okay, this is not a trivial matter, and we can't be too hasty. You should discuss it carefully and think it through before making a decision."

Zhang Xiaoqin quickly pulled Niu Wa aside, gasping for breath in anger.

"What's wrong with you? I told you to look for your own daughter, why are you dawdling? If I knew her, you wouldn't be wasting your time here."

"No, there is no Jiaorong here."

"What? No? How could there be no? Did you send her to this orphanage?"

"Yes, of course. Didn't I come to see her six months ago? She was still here, but she's not among these people today."

Zhang Xiaoqin muttered to herself thoughtfully, "Could she be sick, so she didn't come out... or maybe she was... taken away by someone..."

She ran to the director anxiously and asked, "Courtyard, are all the children in the orphanage here?"

The dean shifted his gaze to the assistant at the side and signaled with his eyes. The assistant quickly returned, "Dean, all the children are here, not one is missing."

"They're all here? Impossible..." Zhang Xiaoqin looked distraught. She quickly dragged Niu Wa over and brought him in front of the director. "Quickly describe to the director what the child looks like."

Niu Wa described her to the director timidly, "She's a girl with slightly dark skin, small eyes, about this tall, about four or five years old."

"Dean, where did this girl go? Do you know?" Zhang Xiaoqin quickly echoed and asked.

"No, if you describe it that way, with so many children coming in and out, we can't remember which one it is right now! Do you really have to adopt that child?"

Zhang Xiaoqin was so anxious that she was spinning around in circles, muttering to herself, "What should I do? What should I do?"
