As soon as Boyi entered the room, he greeted Wu Ju with a smile and gave her the things he bought from Wen Dazui's house.
"Aunt Wu, you're just teasing the child! Here, I bought this for you. Is Shumei here? Why didn't she go to the factory today?"
"Come on, then! Why are you being so polite? Shumei is in the room! She's sick."
Wu Ju has always been greedy. While she was saying polite words, her hands had already been busy taking the things from Boyi's hands.
Boyi gently pinched Shuangning's cheeks, croaking like frogs to amuse her, a childlike smile on his face. But when he heard Wu Ju say Shumei was ill, his smile instantly disappeared, and he walked into the house in silence.
Looking at Shumei lying unconscious in bed, Boyi felt extremely distressed. But what could he do? This was the Zhang family. She was Jizong's legitimate wife, and anything he did was illegal.
"Bo Yi is here!"
Seeing Boyi walk in, the helpless Ji Zong felt like he had found a lifeline. He didn't know Boyi's feelings for Shumei, and he didn't care about what others might say. His first concern was Shumei's safety. Boyi's arrival was just the right time to take Shumei to the hospital.
"I heard Shumei is sick. Is it serious?"
"It's serious. She has been groggy since morning till now. Dad just cooked dinner and I asked her to get up and eat, but she didn't respond at all." Ji Zong said while looking at the food on the bedside table.
"Then...then why don't you send her to the hospital?"
"I want to, too! But look at me like this, how can I send it to you?"
"Uncle Zhang and the others..."
"Don't mention it. It's not like you don't know my mother."
Looking at the pale Shumei, Boyi could no longer care about so much. Without waiting for Ji Zong to speak, he helped the unconscious Shumei up and said, "Ji Zong, I will take Shumei to the hospital. Nothing is more important than life and health." After that, he carried Shumei on his back.
"Bo Yi, thank you for your help."
"Why should I be polite to you? I'm going first."
Boyi uses the pretense of being a brother to Ji Zong to save his beloved woman.
"Well, be careful, there's money in Shumei's pocket."
Ji Zong did not forget to give Boyi any instructions, but Boyi had already left in a hurry, so it was unknown whether he listened to his words.
Seeing Boyi carrying Shumei out, Wu Ju was so shocked that she stood up from the stool, "You...you..." Before she could say what she wanted to say, Boyi had already run out.
One was a single man whose wife had died, and the other was a widow whose husband was paralyzed. If they were caught by others when they went out, there would be spit all over the place, and Wu Ju was so anxious that she stamped her feet.
"Dad, why don't you hurry up and follow me? Do you want your Zhang family to become the laughing stock of the whole neighborhood?"
Zhang Binglin slowly emerged from the room, holding his long pipe. "Now I know it's urgent. I told you to take Shumei to the hospital a long time ago. What have you been doing?"
"Great! The wings of the old and the young have grown hard, and they have learned to resist me." Wu Ju held the child in one hand and picked up the dustpan on the stone table with the other hand and threw it at Zhang Binglin.
Zhang Binglin dodged swiftly, snatched away the huge monster that was flying towards him, and walked out of the yard.
Anyway, we can't understand Wu Ju's view of the Three Obediences and Four Virtues. She thinks it's immoral to carry Shumei to the hospital for a normal medical checkup, but she thinks it's natural to let her husband touch her daughter-in-law.
During the few days Shumei was in the hospital, Boyi stayed by her side. Shumei's fever wouldn't go away, so he used hot towels to cool her down all night until her temperature dropped.
The first meal after Shumei woke up was also fed by Boyi one spoonful at a time. Although Shumei had always strongly opposed it, Boyi still insisted on doing so. Shumei had no choice but to obey reluctantly.
Looking at Boyi, who, like Jizong, had grown up with her, Shumei had a false feeling that he was her other half, her guardian angel. Tears welled up in her eyes. After a moment of wandering thoughts, she slapped herself hard.
Boyi, who was scrubbing her face towel, was startled by the loud slap. He turned around and looked at Shumei with a puzzled look.
"Shumei, are you okay?"
"It's okay, it's just a mosquito biting me."
There are no mosquitoes in this winter. This is clearly an act of self-incrimination. He is lying without thinking.
In this world, who would hit you for no reason? Boyi knew Shumei was lying, she must have something on her mind, but since Shumei didn't say anything, he didn't ask any more questions.
Shumei stayed in the hospital for five days. Not only did she use up all the money she had, but Boyi also paid a large sum of money for her.
This poor person can't afford to get sick. She's worked so hard for so long, and now she's sick! She's back to the days before liberation, penniless, and worse things are waiting for her.
The brick factory director successfully transferred his funds and divorced his original wife.
He remembered Shumei's threats clearly. He was the director of a large brick factory, but he had to give in to a little woman. He couldn't swallow this anger.
This man is even more unreasonable than a woman when he holds a grudge. When the factory director came out of the Civil Affairs Bureau, the first thing he did was go back to the factory and fire Shumei, venting the anger he had been holding in for so long.
He had originally wanted to find a suitable excuse to save his face and avoid being accused of being a traitor. Unexpectedly, Shumei's long sick leave gave him a plausible excuse. He fired Shumei on the grounds that she was taking leave every other day and delaying the timely completion of the order.
