Chapter 42 Escape

"Hey!" After the old woman said this, she took out a gong from the house and walked around the village while beating the gong.

For a moment, the quiet village began to boil, and lights were lit in every household in the village.

All the strong men held torches and began searching all over the mountains to help the fool's family catch the runaway new bride.

Looking at the flames behind her, Shumei could never have imagined that in such a barbaric place, the people were so united.

She didn't have time to think about it, just ran forward madly in the night, running and running, refusing to stop for a moment. Because it was late, and Shumei was not familiar with the conditions in the mountains, she kept falling and bumping into things.

Her body and hands were already covered in bruises, but she didn't care about that. She fell and got up and continued running. She fell again, and then fell again. The temptation to go home made her ignore the pain.

Unfortunately, her legs could not outrun all the men in the village, and she was eventually caught up by those brutal men.

A group of men holding torches quickly surrounded her. Like a trapped animal, she stood in the center of this flesh cage, staring at each dark-skinned man with an unfriendly expression. She was so frightened she spun around in circles, gasping for air. Sweat and dirt mixed together, staining her pretty face a dusty gray. She couldn't imagine what would happen next.

Before her eyes were a group of untamed savages. Were they going to treat her as prey? Shumei was already terrified, her hair stood on end, her heart trembling with fear, her whole body trembling.

The real man finally squeezed out of the crowd and walked straight towards Shumei. The man looked ferocious and murderous. Shumei was so scared that she staggered back.

"Don't come over here, get out of here..."

In a panic, she stepped on a branch. She quickly picked up the branch, held it tightly with both hands, pointed at the man walking towards her, trying to use this to make a last stand.

Seeing the man getting closer, Shumei raised the branch in her hand and started hitting him with her eyes closed.

The man easily snatched the branch from her hand and threw it to the ground. He grabbed Shumei's clothes at her chest. Shumei felt her feet slowly leave the ground. She instinctively slapped the man in front of her with her exhausted hands.

It was obvious that the man's eyes no longer had the friendliness he had in the afternoon. His eyes were filled with anger, and the strength of his hands was no longer as gentle.

The man lifted Shumei into the air and threw her hard. She landed flat on her back, her buttocks and lumbar spine aching. Before she could react, the man swiftly approached her, leaned over, and with his left hand, lifted her by her dress, lifted her from the ground to more than half her height. Then, he slapped her across the face.

"I told you to run, you're looking for death, I told you to run..."

She was knocked flying, landing heavily on the ground. Her cheeks instantly burned with pain. The man pulled her up again and slapped her across the face again. This went on and on, and she couldn't remember how long the beatings lasted. She only knew that her cheeks were so painful that she couldn't even open her mouth, and blood oozed from the corners of her mouth.

Only now did Shumei realize that compared to her previous life, this was a life worse than death. She had completely lost the ability to resist and instead felt dizzy from the beating.

"Zhuo Er, take him back and discipline him properly. It's the middle of the night and everyone needs to go back to sleep!"

A man in the crowd spoke up, and the rest echoed him. The man, whom they called Zhuo Er, finally stopped beating Shumei and dragged her back by her hair.

"Let's go back to the village."

The pain of her hair and scalp being pulled apart forced Shumei to firmly grasp the roots of her hair to reduce the pain. However, she couldn't take care of both ends. Although she was wearing thick clothes, the friction between her body and the messy things on the ground had already worn through her pants. Her body was stinging all over, and Shumei couldn't imagine what her buttocks and legs had become.

Shumei cried, but these were not tears of sadness, but tears of pain that she was forced to cry.

Boyi finally rushed back to the village. He rushed to the storage room and explained the reason to Wen Dazui, asking her to help take care of Xiao Youchen while he was away.

When Wen Dazui heard that Boyi had the heart to abandon her babbling child for another woman, she refused to help take care of the child. She usually only helped out during her free time at the shop for her younger sister's sake, but now she was asked to be both the father and mother, taking care of the child day and night while the child's biological father had to be a hero and save the damsel in distress. She just couldn't get over this.
