Chapter 59: Heartless

"Wencai, no, Master, Little Stone is just a baby, how can he be compared to you! I'll go and take him out and comfort him. If he cries for too long, his stomach will hurt. At worst, when he stops crying, I'll continue to massage you, every day. That should be enough, right?"

"Press it every day? Hmm... okay! Then go ahead!"

When Wencai heard Shumei say that she gave herself a massage every day, he was secretly happy and looked very smug.

Shumei hurried into the house and carried Little Stone to the living room to coax him in. Little Stone probably still hadn't gotten enough sleep, so after a short coaxing, he went back to sleep.

"Yeah! The little guy is not crying anymore, come and help me press it!"

"Wait a minute, let me put the little stone in the crib in the house first."

"Hey, don't bother. Just put it here. Look, the sofa is soft. I can help you watch him. Why are you just standing there? Put it down quickly! Listen, what's that sound?"

At this time, the sound of pot lids colliding with pots came from the kitchen, "Water, the water is boiling."

Shumei hadn't wanted to do this, but under Wencai's repeated urging, and with the water in the kitchen boiling, she didn't think twice and placed the small stone on the sofa. But the subsequent results made Shumei believe that she had a short circuit in her mind, so she could have trusted such an unreliable Wencai.

When Shumei finished cooking the noodles and came out of the kitchen with a bowl of steaming noodles, she looked up and saw Xiao Shitou turning over and about to fall to the ground. She didn't have time to run over to stop him. She ran while yelling, "Master, grab Xiao Shitou! He's about to fall to the ground."

That damned Li Wencai, upon hearing Shumei's screams, actually watched the child tumble to the ground. He could have stopped her, but he sat there, indifferent as a log.

“Wow wow wow…”

The little stone fell to the ground, making him scream. Shumei rushed over, put the bowl of noodles on the coffee table, and hurriedly picked up the child from the ground.

The child had a big bump on his forehead after being hit. Shumei was heartbroken when she saw it. She was really heartbroken.

Shumei couldn't sleep every night because her child was not around. It was Xiao Shitou who accompanied her instead of Xiao Shuangning. Shumei took care of Xiao Shitou as if he were her own child. Seeing the child crying so miserably, she was really heartbroken.

The heartless Wencai could actually pick up the noodles on the coffee table as if nothing had happened and eat them with relish.

Shumei was half squatting on the ground, with tears in her eyes. She raised her head slightly and looked at Wencai with anger.

"Why? Why? You could have grabbed him, why didn't you grab him?"

"What a joke! Are you the babysitter or am I? I have no obligation to take care of him."

Wencai glanced disdainfully at the crying little Shitou, and replied in a very calm tone, so calm that there was no emotion at all, which made people shudder.

“You…you…”

Shumei really wanted to teach this heartless guy a lesson on behalf of her aunt, but when the words came to her lips, she swallowed them back.

Who am I? I'm just a lowly babysitter. What right do I have to tell him what to do? It's all my fault. I wasn't careful enough. That's why Little Stone suffered so much.

Dropping a child is no small matter. If your own child drops, the worst that can happen is heartache. But if someone else drops a child, you could lose your job at best, or face hefty medical bills at worst.

When the old aunt came back, Shumei held Xiao Shitou in her arms, knelt in front of the old aunt, and told her the whole story.

After listening to Shumei's confession word for word, Wencai was still a little dissatisfied.

"You say it like I did it on purpose. You were wrong in the first place, and you're blaming me for not continuing."

"Shut up!"

After hearing Shumei's words, the old lady also realized that Wencai was really outrageous, so cold and emotionless. She had already been burning with anger in her heart, but she never thought that Wencai would continue to rub against the edge of the knife.

"Aunt, this is how it is. You can punish me or beat me as you please. Even if you want to kick me out, I won't say anything. You can take Xiao Shitou for a checkup, and I'll pay for it."

The old lady helped Shumei, who was kneeling on the ground, up and sat her next to her on the sofa.

"The sofa is only a little high. It's okay. Don't all children get hurt by falling? Every child has bumps and bruises. Don't blame yourself too much. Just be more careful next time. Go and get dinner ready! I'm so hungry."

The old aunt is always so considerate. Shumei was already moved to tears. After listening to the old aunt's words, she wiped the tears from her cheeks, smiled, and got up to go to the kitchen to busy herself.

The old lady looked at her disappointing son and she didn't even have the heart to scold him. She just kept shaking her head and sighing.

Wencai glanced at the old aunt with his eyes slanted. For some reason, he felt as if he had made a mistake and did not dare to look the old aunt in the eye.

"Mom, don't look at me like that. It scares me."

"Is there anything in this world that can scare you, Li Wencai?"

"Haha! Mom, I love hearing that. Oh, and by the way, didn't you ask me to pay for my living expenses? How much is it per month?"

Wencai's words cheered up the old lady. She asked tentatively, "Why? Did you find a job?"

"Don't worry about that. Just tell me how much it is."

The old lady was stunned for a moment and thought about it carefully for a while.

"30 yuan, this is the minimum standard."

"Okay, 30 is 30. Here, here's 60 yuan for two months."
