To be honest, at the time, her mother was simply furious and wanted nothing more than to seek justice for Lingling. But in this kind of situation, there was no justice to be sought. The fact that Lingling hadn't been defiled was a blessing in disguise.
"Getting married is definitely impossible. Fortunately, it was just a false alarm. We just want Wang Changxing to come forward and clarify the matter." Jiang Ling's mother said to Feng Jianzhong.
"Lingling's mother, I'm not trying to protect you, but even if Changxing comes forward to clarify, will anyone believe you? Not only will you not gain any benefits, but you'll actually ruin the reputations of the two children. It'll make it difficult for them to date in the future. Don't you agree?"
Feng Jianzhong realized the seriousness of the problem. If Changxing really came forward, Changxing's reputation would be ruined, and he would be even less likely to be mentioned as a partner in the future.
Her mother thought about it and felt that what Feng Jianzhong said made sense, but was it really a waste of time to make such a trip?
Finally, Feng Jianzhong agreed to stop allowing Wang Changxing to appear in the village to atone for his mistake and minimize the rumors. If he dared to violate this agreement, they could fight him every time they saw him, and they would not be held responsible for any injuries.
They also put this unwritten agreement into written form, with each party holding a copy and putting their fingerprints on it.
Wang Changxing saw his dream come to nothing, and he reluctantly pressed his fingerprints. Before leaving, he even exposed Zhang Xiaoqin, saying, "Do you think I can accomplish this on my own? Without your wonderful daughter-in-law's help, I wouldn't even be able to see your daughter, haha!"
After Changxing finished speaking, he left with a big laugh.
Jiang Fu learned that it was Zhang Xiaoqin who planned all this. After returning home, he had a big quarrel with Zhang Xiaoqin.
Zhang Xiaoqin was still the same as before, refusing to admit her mistake. She cried, made a fuss, and even threatened to hang herself. Finally, she rushed back to her parents' home in anger.
They originally thought that the matter was over, but soon the story of Jiang Ling and Wang Changxing spread throughout the small mountain village.
Jiang Ling didn't dare go back to the village. When she did, she always felt that people were talking about her behind her back. Those predatory looks made her extremely frustrated.
But at this critical moment, Wei Jie's parents kept urging to visit Jiang Ling's family.
Jiang Ling didn't even have the courage to meet Wei Jie, let alone invite Wei Jie's parents to her home. She told her mother all this.
"Silly child, these are just some rumors. Wang Changxing didn't do anything to you. You are still innocent." Jiang Ling's mother held Lingling's hand tightly and advised her earnestly, not wanting her daughter to miss this rare opportunity.
"Mother, I remember exactly what happened. There wasn't a single piece of clothing on me. I don't even believe I'm innocent, so how can I expect Wei Jie to believe it?"
"Listen to my mother. I've been through this before, and you're innocent. Don't be afraid. Just do what you want. When you get married, you'll understand that what I say is right, and you'll be happy."
With her mother's earnest persuasion, Jiang Ling mustered up the courage to face Wei Jie.
She didn't dare tell Wei Jie about Wang Changxing. Under Wei Jie's repeated urging, she agreed to bring Wei Jie's parents to her home as guests.
That day, Jiang Ling went to the village entrance to welcome Wei Jie and his parents, but after waiting for a long time, she only saw Wei Jie.
"Ajie, uncle, where is auntie?"
Jiang Ling thought that as long as she pretended nothing had happened and didn't care what others said, she could talk about marriage with Wei Jie normally and look forward to a better life.
"They've already gone into the village, saying they want to experience your local customs and folkways. There's a big elm tree in front of your house, right? They said they could find it themselves, so we'll leave them alone. Come on, take me to meet my uncle and aunt first!"
Wei Jie was carrying a lot of bags, all of which were prepared for Jiang Ling's parents.
Jiang Ling held Wei Jie's hand and walked into the village with her head down. She didn't dare look up to see those strange eyes. She was even afraid that Wei Jie would hear those rumors and dislike her.
Wei Jie's parents, Wei Yuan and Li Yutong, are city dwellers through and through, having grown up in a lavish environment. They are filled with endless love and curiosity for this picturesque village, their childlike innocence undiminished. They enjoy watching the cicadas in the trees and chasing grasshoppers in the fields, having so much fun that they forget about their business.
As we passed by the river, we saw a group of women washing clothes and chatting.
The two of them accidentally heard Jiang Ling's name from their mouths. They were actually talking about their future daughter-in-law. How could they not stop and listen more?
"What is the relationship between Jiang Ling from the Jiang family and Feng Jianzhong's nephew?"
"Jiang Ling is such a good person, how could she fall for a cripple? This is probably all just hearsay!"
"You're just making up stories. We saw it with our own eyes that day. When we rushed into the house, the man hadn't even put on his pants."
"Didn't you say you took medicine?"
"What do you mean by drugs? That man walked in openly through the door. Have you ever seen someone so bold as to do such a bad thing? That was just an excuse to clear himself after the crime was exposed. If those two are fine, my name will be written backwards."
The woman who witnessed the incident in Jiang's courtyard that day spoke confidently to these people, and everyone listened attentively.
"Is that so? They're such a pair of bastards. It seems Jiang Ling is even worse than that. Now that her affair has been exposed, she's putting all the blame on that guy."
"Isn't it? I heard that man was grounded and not allowed to set foot in our village again."
…
Everyone was talking at once, and the more they talked, the more excited they became.
