He stood there in a daze, his heart filled with worry for Xiao Shuangning.
The ticket seller sitting in the front row asked him impatiently, "Hey! Are you leaving or not? If you are, then pay!"
"Auntie, have you ever seen a girl this tall, about eleven or twelve years old, with fair complexion?"
"No, no, do you want to take the bus or not? If not, get off immediately. It's windy and rainy, and we're in a hurry to get the bus back home!"
Xiao Youchen was stunned for a moment, then said excitedly, "Sit down, wait for me, just one minute."
He ran out of the car and caught up with the villager named Shao Xuan. "Uncle Shao Xuan, please tell my mother that I'm going to town to find my sister and tell her not to worry about me."
"OK!"
"Thank you for your help, Uncle Shaoxuan." Xiao Youchen said, then returned to the car and bought a ticket to the town. He wanted to go to the town to find Xiao Shuangning, to the hospital to find Xiao Shuangning.
He just sat down in his wet clothes. Although he was wearing wet clothes, the windows of the car were all closed and the temperature inside was not too low. Compared to the wind and rain just now, it was much warmer inside.
However, he didn't care whether he was cold or not. Now his heart was filled with Xiao Shuangning. He was so worried that his heart almost stopped. How could he have the mood to care about his own body?
Xiao Shuangning and her friend arrived at the bus stop. It was windy and rainy, and there was not a single ghost on the road, let alone a car.
They found nothing except rainwater flowing on the ground.
"Ningning, let's go! Look how heavy the rain is. Let's go back to the hospital! I'd feel really bad if I ended up sending you to the hospital as well."
"But...but if I don't go back, my mother and brother will definitely be worried."
"It's so easy! When you get back to the hospital, just call home and let them know you're safe."
Xiao Shuangning stared at Zhou Yu. She didn't expect that at the critical moment, Zhou Yu could really be of use.
"What are you standing there for? My feet are almost numb from the cold. Let's go back to the hospital!" Zhou Yu bent over and stroked his arm. The cold started from his feet, and it seemed that he was really cold.
Xiao Shuangning looked down at Zhou Yu's bare feet, which were already white from the cold.
"Oh well!"
The two of them returned the same way and braved the wind and rain to return to the hospital.
After returning to the hospital, Zhou Yu didn't even bother to go back to the ward. The first thing he did was to take Xiao Shuangning to make a phone call.
His mother was anxiously waiting for him at the door. When she saw him come back, she started complaining, "You little bastard, you're so stupid! It's late at night, with strong winds and heavy rain, and you're actually barefoot accompanying this little girl to have fun. Why have I never seen you care so much about your mother? I really raised you in vain..."
She kept muttering to herself, following closely behind Xiao Shuangning and Zhou Yu.
But Zhou Yu seemed to treat her as invisible and turned a deaf ear to her words.
He was only thinking about accompanying Xiao Shuangning to make a phone call, asking her to let her family know that she was safe so that she could stay in the hospital with peace of mind.
He took Xiao Shuangning to the public telephone in the hospital, took out his phone card and put it into the phone.
"Ningning, you can call now. Go ahead! Just dial the number directly."
To be honest, Xiao Shuangning had never used this kind of public phone. She reached out to the public phone timidly, but didn't know how to use it.
Zhou Yu immediately saw Xiao Shuangning's dilemma and picked up the phone, saying, "Tell me the number and I'll dial it for you."
Xiao Shuangning was stunned for a moment, and quickly called Dazui's home.
Only after the call was connected did Zhou Yu hand the microphone to Xiao Shuangning.
"Hello! Auntie, I'm Ningning."
"Ningning! Where are you calling from so late at night? Do you have a telephone at home? I haven't heard of it!"
"No, I'm in the town hospital right now! I'd like you to tell my mother I missed the bus back to the village. It's so windy and rainy, so I won't be going back to the village tonight and will be staying in the hospital for the night."
"Is that so? Okay, I'll come to your house when the rain stops and tell your mother what you said. Are you sick? Why are you in the hospital?"
"This... Auntie, I'm not sick. I won't say any more. I'm hanging up now."
"No, you..."
“Beep, beep…”
Before Wen Dazui could ask more questions, a "beep, beep, beep" sound came from the other end of the phone.
After finishing the call, Zhou Yu took Xiao Shuangning back to the hospital ward.
His mother followed behind, holding the dripping umbrella. She kept complaining, "Hey! I'm an old lady now. You little brat, you really treat me like air."
As soon as he entered the ward, Zhou Yu's mother hurriedly urged him, "Your feet are so cold they're whiter than white radishes. Hurry up and get in bed to warm them up. I'm telling you, if you treat your body like this, don't come to me for help when you get sick."
Zhou Yu didn't listen to her. He walked to the cupboard, opened the lunch box his mother had sent him, and took a sip of the chicken soup inside.
"Ningning, come and have something hot, the food is still hot."
As Zhou Yu spoke, he divided the food in the lunch box into two parts and waved to Xiao Shuangning who was standing there to come over.
Xiao Shuangning stood at the door in a daze, not knowing what to do.
Zhou Yu realized Xiao Shuangning's worry and walked over to her. He pulled her to his side and forced the bowl into her hands. He pushed her down on the bed and said, "Sit down and eat while it's hot!"
How could Zhou Yu’s mother bear to let the food she had worked so hard to make be eaten by an unrelated stranger, let alone an “enemy”.
