Chapter 56: Honest Heart

The man sat on the haircutting chair. Qianqian stood behind him, her hands resting on the back of the chair. Looking at him in the mirror, she smiled and asked in a playful tone, "Hello, sir. I remember you. This is your third time visiting our shop. I wonder if there is anything I can do for you today?"

The man stared at Qianqian in the mirror and said, "Boss, can I just wash my hair without cutting it?"

Qianqian was stunned for a moment. Why not make money if there is money to be made? At most, she could take half of the money. It would be a waste if she didn’t make any. So she agreed with a smile.

"sure!"

"Then wash it!"

"Okay!"

Qianqian took a towel and put it on his shoulders, and began to scrub his hair. To be honest, Qianqian was not very good at dry cleaning. In the past, most people who came to her adoptive father's shop came to get their hair cut, not to wash their hair.

This unprofessional hair washing method was learned from a large hair salon in the county town. At that time, they would go to such places to design their hair, and there were many people in such places who just went to enjoy the washing without cutting their hair.

“Nice technique!”

The man actually said that he had good skills. She smiled awkwardly at the man in the mirror and muttered in her heart, wondering if there was something wrong with his taste or her ears.

"What's your name?"

"My name is Xiong Qianqian!"

"Qianqian! That sounds nice. My name is Wang Hao. They all call me Brother Hao. You can call me that in the future too."

You're really outgoing, Qianqian? Brother Hao? You're really good at speaking like you know me very well.

Qianqian muttered a few words in her heart and forced a smile, "Okay, Brother Hao!"

Hearing Qianqian's sweet "Brother Hao", the man showed a smug, yet somewhat malicious smile on his face. He stared at Qianqian so intently that she didn't dare to look him in the eye. Qianqian subconsciously shifted her gaze to the picture on the wall.

Qianqian felt much more comfortable without seeing Wang Hao's staring eyes. She continued to wash her hair while chatting with the man about everything under the sun.

When Shumei and Boyi arrived in town, Shumei had planned to walk to the courtyard by herself, but Boyi insisted on taking her there in person. Shumei repeatedly declined, saying she had already delayed him for so long and didn't want to trouble Boyi anymore.

But Boyi insisted, saying he would not be reassured until he saw for himself that she was safe. He probably was just like Shumei, afraid of being tricked and sold by bad guys again.

"Boyi, stop the car. We're here."

At the gate of the courtyard, Boyi slammed on the brakes and stopped his bicycle steadily at Shumei's call.

"Boyi, please go back! Today is Xiao Youchen's first birthday, and I'm afraid I don't have time to spend it with him."

"It's okay, since you're here, I'll take you in."

Before Shumei could think of an excuse to refuse, Boyi had already walked into the courtyard, pushing his bicycle. Shumei hurried to follow him, but after walking a few steps, the old lady from yesterday came out to greet her, holding the child.

"Girl, are you here?"

"Well! Auntie, did Little Stone sleep well last night?"

"Okay, I got up and had a midnight feed, then slept until dawn."

The old lady spoke with a smile on her face, but her eyes were fixed on Boyi who was following Shumei closely.

Shumei saw the confusion in the old lady's eyes and quickly introduced her: "This is a friend from my village who specially sent me to the city."

"Oh! Then come inside and have a cup of tea!"

"No……"

Shumei was about to decline on Boyi's behalf, but Boyi agreed first. Shumei looked at Boyi with a puzzled expression, but Boyi was already smiling and following the old lady towards the house.

Shumei had no choice but to follow quietly.

When Boyi entered the house, he was quite rude! He looked around, giving the room a thorough once-over, and then chatted with the old woman for a long time, asking about everything, including how many people were in her family and what they did. Boyi asked every detail, as if he were a police officer checking her household registration, or even more thoroughly than a police officer.

After Shumei entered the room, she put the gifts in her room and packed them up. After packing the gifts, she went to clean the kitchen.

When Shumei finished cleaning and came out, Boyi was sitting on the sofa chatting enthusiastically with the old aunt. The old aunt seemed to be having a good chat with him and burst into laughter from time to time.

Shumei walked behind the sofa and poked Boyi on the back, "Alright, that's enough. Auntie still has some work to do for me!"

"It's okay. Xiao Tang and I get along very well. Go ahead and do your thing. I don't have anything to say."

Seeing that Shumei was about to interrupt their conversation, the old aunt hurriedly stopped her. It seemed that she really could get along well with Boyi.

"No, Auntie, I'm not familiar with this place. You have to take me to familiarize myself with the environment! Otherwise, it will be difficult for me to carry out my work."

The old aunt showed an embarrassed expression. Boyi saw that he had asked all the questions he needed to ask, so he stood up and said goodbye. "Auntie, you guys are busy. I'll go back first. I will come to see you another day. Another day."

As Boyi spoke, he walked out of the house. The old lady stood up. It was obvious that Boyi's sudden departure caught her off guard.

"Girl, please see him off! Please see Xiao Tang off quickly."

“Hey!”

Shumei quickly responded, swerving around from behind the sofa and following Boyi out the door. She waited until they were outside the courtyard before she spoke.

"What's wrong with you today? Why are you suddenly so talkative?"

"I wouldn't trust you to work here without knowing your background. But now it seems that this family is a serious one, so you can work here without worry."
