Chapter 403: Good Friends Forever

It was already dark, and the other two colleagues who worked in the bookstore had just left work.

Wen Qiuning stood at the door and was about to close it. As if she had a premonition, she did not close the door immediately, but stood there looking into the distance.

The street lights were on, and there were still a few people walking on the straight road.

Suddenly, a figure appeared in front of my eyes. He was riding a bicycle, wearing a white shirt, black pants, and was tall.

His entire body was enveloped in light, and his facial features could not be seen clearly, but his short, closely-spaced hair was very recognizable.

As the figure grew from small to large, Wen Qiuning felt his heart beating faster.

The cyclist braked suddenly, got off the bike, stepped on the stand, and picked up the things, all in one go.

The figure was right in front of him, and Wen Qiuning woke up as if from a dream.

"Yu Xiangyang, you're back?" A long-lost smile appeared on her face.

Yu Xiangyang smiled and said, "I just arrived today. I brought you some fruit."

Only then did Wen Qiuning notice that Yu Xiangyang was holding two net bags, the contents of which were wrapped in newspapers.

Wen Qiuning said, "Come in."

The two of them went to the backyard, where there was a kitchen.

Yu Xiangyang put the things on the table and opened the newspaper. "Look, this is durian."

It was the first time Wen Qiuning saw a durian. It was very big, irregularly round, with green and yellow skin and covered with thorns.

Wen Qiuning touched it and said with a smile, "So this is what durian is like. It's really prickly!" It's as big as your head.

Yu Xiangyang opened another one, which was a ripe banana, bright yellow.

This is not a bunch, but just a section. There is a round stem in the middle and bananas are all around it, like a turntable.

Yu Xiangyang said: "The bananas you usually buy are cut from here."

Wen Qiuning nodded and asked, "A bunch of bananas has many sections like this?"

"Hmm." Yu Xiangyang broke off a banana and handed it to her. "Try it. It's naturally ripened on the tree. It's sticky and sweet."

Wen Qiuning was stunned for a moment, took the banana, peeled it, and took a bite.

It was sweet, but her nose felt sour!

She was too embarrassed to tell Yu Xiangyang that this was her first time eating a banana.

They didn't have these fruits there. When she was a child, she would ask her mother for food whenever she wanted to. Her mother would buy her local pears and sour oranges.

Later, she grew up and never asked for fruit again.

After finishing a banana, Wen Qiuning calmed down and said, "It's delicious."

Yu Xiangyang smiled with satisfaction, "Go find a knife and I'll open the durian."

Wen Qiuning took a kitchen knife and said, "Let me do it."

Yu Xiangyang said, "The skin is thick and prickly, you can't open it. Besides, there are some tricks to opening a durian. If you don't know how to open it, you'll scratch the flesh."

Yu Xiangyang pressed the durian with newspaper and cut it open along the grain. A foul smell came to his nose, and Yu Xiangyang turned his face away in disgust.

Wen Qiuning also smelled it, and it was indeed very smelly.

Yu Xiangyang stood two steps away, covering his nose with one hand and pointing at the yellow flesh inside with the other, "Try it."

Wen Qiuning asked doubtfully, "Can it really be eaten?"

"able!"

Wen Qiuning reached out hesitantly, took a piece, and sniffed it in front of his nose. It was so smelly!

Yu Xiangyang looked at her with anticipation and curiosity.

Wen Qiuning couldn't let Xiangyang down, so she took a deep breath, held it, and then took a bite.

A soft and sweet feeling immediately filled the mouth, and the bad smell dissipated, replaced by a rich sweet fragrance.

It turns out that this is what Yu Xiangyang meant by "stinky and fragrant".

Wen Qiuning finished the durian in her hand in a few bites. She nodded heavily, "Mm! It's delicious! Even better than a banana!"

Yu Xiangyang's mouth was almost grinning from ear to ear, "As long as you think it tastes good!"

As he said that, he walked to the table and opened all the remaining durians.

Wen Qiuning said a little embarrassedly: "Should I finish it all by myself?"

Yu Xiangyang said nonchalantly, "I'm not eating! The sooner you finish this, the better. Otherwise, tomorrow morning, when everyone comes here, they'll think you took a shit!"

Wen Qiuning: "...Try a piece. It smells bad but tastes good."

Yu Xiangyang waved his hands and took two steps back in disgust, "I've tried it many times, no! I can't eat it!"

Wen Qiuning said, "It's a pity that you can't eat such delicious fruit."

"Eat it quickly! Finish it quickly!"

Wen Qiuning really thought durian was delicious, so she picked up another piece and started eating.

Yu Xiangyang felt very satisfied when he saw Wen Qiuning eating so deliciously.

It’s worth it that he brought it from such a far place!

He bought these two kinds of fruits the day before he left.

Wen Qiuning said she wanted to see some durian, so Yu Xiangyang went to buy one. When he saw some bananas on the way, he bought some too.

Wen Qiuning didn't know that bananas come in bunches. Although he couldn't bring a whole bunch, by bringing this one, she should be able to imagine what bananas look like.

Wen Qiuning sat at the table and ate durian quietly, while Yu Xiangyang stood two meters away and watched her eat.

He could feel the change in Wen Qiuning.

He still remembered the scene when he first gave her two apples and she coldly rejected them.

She sat there, her body slightly bent, eating in small bites, like a cat eating.

From time to time, she raised her head and smiled at Xiangyang.

Under the orange light of the white weave lamp, several moths desperately flew towards the lamp. The two young people were not far away from each other, and neither of them spoke. Only when their eyes met did they smile at each other.

Wen Qiuning finished eating a durian and burped with satisfaction.

She quickly found a bag, put the peels in it, and prepared to throw them away.

Yu Xiangyang dislikes the smell.

Yu Xiangyang stopped her and said, "Just throw it away when I leave later."

Wen Qiuning then remembered that she had not yet thanked Yu Xiangyang.

"Yu Xiangyang, thank you, both fruits are delicious!"

She could only express her gratitude verbally, and she had nothing to give back to Yu Xiangyang.

Yu Xiangyang said nonchalantly, "What's there to thank me for? Just a little fruit. I brought it along on the way."

Wen Qiuning understood that these two fruits were specially brought to her by Yu Xiangyang.

Because they had talked about bananas and durian together, Yu Xiangyang remembered it.

The two chatted for a while about what happened during the holiday. It was getting late, so Yu Xiangyang picked up the bag of fruit peels and said, "I'm going home."

Wen Qiuning walked Yu Xiangyang to the door. "Yu Xiangyang, thank you very much! I hope we can always be good friends!"

This was her true feelings. She really wanted to be good friends with Yu Xiangyang! Just good friends, that's all!

She will slowly repay Yu Xiangyang for his help and kindness to her.

She has no intention of getting married or finding a partner.

Yu Xiangyang is such a good person, he should have a fairy-like person to accompany him.

(PS: Several readers @ me, saying that jackfruit has no thorns and is not smelly, so I changed the jackfruit in the first two chapters to durian. Uh~~~ But why was the jackfruit I ate as a child smelly? After that incident, I still dare not look jackfruit in the eye.)
