Xiaoman's body trembled slightly as she looked at her parents, her eyes filled with deep reluctance.
"Mom and Dad, I can't stay here any longer. Please take care of yourselves and don't be sad for me."
The middle-aged couple couldn't help but burst into tears, and the woman choked out:
"Xiaoman, don't worry, we will live well, and you must take good care of yourself over there."
Xiaoman smiled slightly, her eyes gentle yet firm, "I will be fine in another world, and you must all live well too. I will always be watching over you."
"Well then, I'll begin."
Yan Ning stood aside and silently took out the tools for the ritual of deliverance.
She whispered the incantation, and the magical artifact in her hand emitted a soft light, enveloping Xiaoman.
Xiaoman's figure gradually became transparent, eventually turning into a wisp of smoke and dissipating into the air.
After Xiaoman left, the middle-aged couple were still in tears, but there was a hint of relief in their eyes.
They turned around, looked at Yan Ning gratefully, and said:
"Thank you for letting us meet Xiaoman. How can we possibly repay you?"
Yan Ning shook her head and said calmly, "It's nothing, it's what I should do. Uncle and Aunt, I'm leaving now."
After saying that, she turned and walked out of the room, hailed a taxi and left the alley, preparing to return to the Su family home.
Halfway through the drive, Yan Ning's stomach started growling.
The food at the Su family's house was rather bland, which she didn't like. So, she wanted to try some fried food from the night market.
So she asked the driver to stop the car on the side of the road, got out, and walked along the night market.
The night market was bustling with activity, with lights flashing from various food stalls and enticing aromas filling the air.
Yan Ning's stomach growled even louder, and she quickly walked towards a small stall that looked very lively.
The proprietress was a middle-aged woman with short hair, who greeted customers loudly with a warm smile.
"Beautiful lady, what would you like to eat?"
Yan Ning paused for a moment and then said, "One serving of fried chicken, plus two grilled sausages, please."
"Okay."
The proprietress quickly began to work, and the oil in the wok sizzled.
Yan Ning casually glanced around the stall.
She suddenly noticed that a little girl was sitting on a small stool next to her, doing her homework.
The little girl looked about seven or eight years old, with two little braids, and she looked very cute.
Yan Ning said with a smile, "Boss lady, is this your daughter? She's so cute."
The proprietress nodded, a proud smile spreading across her face:
"Yes, this is my Tongtong. I usually set up my stall while she does her homework next to me."
Hello, sister!
Hearing their conversation, Tongtong looked up, revealing a sweet smile, and looked at Yan Ning and the landlady.
"Hello……"
Yan Ning responded subconsciously, but her smile froze instantly when she saw Tongtong's face.
Although the little girl was smiling, her eyelids were slightly drooping, as if she were somewhat tired, yet there was an eerie quality to her expression. A few wisps of death hung between her brows.
It was nothing like the vibrancy that an ordinary child should have.
Yan Ning narrowed her eyes, her gaze turning cold. She looked at Tongtong carefully again, trying to find the source of this feeling.
But the little girl just smiled quietly and lowered her head to continue doing her homework.
"Madam, this child..."
Yan Ning hesitated for a moment, but couldn't help asking, "Is she usually like this?"
The proprietress paused for a moment, then smiled slightly and replied:
"That's right. Tongtong is very well-behaved and never makes a fuss. It's just that she was sick a few days ago, which was quite a hardship. She's a little less energetic now."
Yan Ning nodded thoughtfully, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes. "I see."
The proprietress handed her the fried chicken and greeted her with a smile, "Beautiful lady, your fried chicken is ready. Come again next time!"
Yan Ning took the fried chicken, paused for a moment, then turned and walked out of the stall.
Xiao Shi suddenly asked, "Sister, have you noticed something's wrong?"
Yan Ning nodded and said in a low voice, "That's right, something's wrong with this little girl. She looks like she's dead, and her eyes are off too."
She frowned and continued, "It's too early to draw a conclusion. Let's take another look tomorrow."
Yan Ning returned to the Su family home around 8 or 9 p.m. Only Butler Liu came to inquire about her school day; the others exchanged a few perfunctory words.
the next day.
Yan Ning went to school again with her schoolbag on her back.
The students at elite schools mostly come from wealthy families and they like to form cliques.
The wealthy associate with each other, forming small cliques.
Su Muyao is a key figure in one of these circles. She is beautiful, comes from a wealthy family, and is always surrounded by a few sycophants.
When they passed by Yan Ning, they would click their tongues from time to time, their eyes full of disdain.
Yan Ning was already used to these sarcastic remarks, and simply glanced at them indifferently, as if they didn't exist.
Her learning progress was a bit slow. She had just finished her homework when she found that the group leader had already submitted the group's homework, and her homework had fallen behind.
Yan Ning had no choice but to go to Teacher Qiao's office herself to hand it over.
During the long break, all the other teachers and students went to the playground, leaving only Teacher Qiao in the office.
With her back to Yan Ning, she held a few pills and swallowed them in one gulp.
The pills looked large and were dark brown in color, unlike regular medicines sold in pharmacies.
Yan Ning walked over and called out softly, "Teacher Qiao?"
Teacher Qiao was startled and hurriedly turned around, her face showing a hint of panic:
