"But my arms, legs, and back were all scratched by the gravel on the ground, and they were all bloody. When I got home, my grandma almost fainted from fright."
Yan Ning listened attentively.
She imagined the scene: a wild little boy, still stubbornly grimacing even after being injured.
This man was completely different from the one she remembered—always calm, gentle, and somewhat aloof.
The contrast suddenly made her find it a little funny.
Her lips couldn't help but curve into a smile, which strained the muscles in her lower back, and she couldn't help but hiss.

Xie Huaiye immediately stopped what he was doing, looked up at her profile, and asked, "Does it hurt?"

Yan Ning quickly composed herself. "Continue, what happened next?"

Xie Huaiye lowered his head and began cutting the gauze. "Later, Grandma held me down and made me apply the medicine very hard."
"That medicine was much more irritating than this. It hurt so much that I grimaced. After a while, Grandma taught me how to treat small wounds myself so she wouldn't get annoyed by it."
"So, I learned how to disinfect and bandage back then."
He used tweezers to pick up a clean piece of gauze and covered the already disinfected wound.
Then carefully seal the edges with medical tape.
The movements were executed in one smooth, clean motion.
"alright."
He tidied up the used cotton swabs and packaging, saying, "This is fine for now. It's best to have the doctor check on me again when I get back."
Yan Ning lowered the hem of her clothes and tried to move around; the pain lessened considerably.
She turned around and looked at Xie Huaiye, who was still squatting in front of her.
Sunlight fell on his lowered eyebrows and eyes, and his long eyelashes cast a small shadow under his eyes.
The way he focused on packing his medicine kit gave off a calm and reliable feeling.
