Chapter 14 The Great Tribulation at Twenty and the Highway That Will Disfigure You

Xie Huaiye raised an eyebrow, his eyes filled with a hint of disdain and amusement.

This woman is hilarious; she's actually playing the role of a little fortune teller in front of him!

He sneered, his tone as cold as ice: "Playing the charlatan and swindling, is this how the eldest daughter of the Su family behaves?"

He glanced sideways at Yan Ning, a slight smile playing on his lips, and then said:

"Is the next step to ask me for money to avoid further trouble?"

Yan Ning smiled slightly, shook a finger, and said in a light tone:

"No, no, I won't charge you. I'm just reminding you."

She paused, a hint of seriousness in her eyes, "You broke your leg when you were three, hit your head when you were ten, and strained your muscles while playing basketball when you were fifteen."

"Now you've reached a major calamity at the age of twenty. If you take that path, you'll be disfigured. Believe it or not."

After saying that, Yan Ning strode out of the room, leaving Xie Huaiye standing alone inside.

Xie Huaiye frowned, his eyes full of doubt.

Few people know about his childhood; those are his hidden pasts that have never been reported to the public.

How did Su Yanning know? Could what she said be true?

As he watched Yan Ning's departing figure, a complex mix of emotions welled up within him—a mixture of disbelief and a vague sense of unease.

Yan Ning came out of her room. The party was almost over. She got into her car and returned to the Su family home.

She briefly said goodbye to her family and then went back to her room.

The next day, she went to school on time and began her day of learning.

Meanwhile, Xie Huaiye got into a Rolls-Royce to attend an important meeting.

He glanced at the time casually; it was still early, there weren't many cars on the road, and everything seemed to be going smoothly.

He leaned back in his seat, a slight smile playing on his lips, thinking about that little charlatan, Su Yanning.

He didn't take her words from yesterday to heart; in fact, he found them somewhat ridiculous.

Chengnan Highway is a relatively long route, and I would never normally take that road.

Xie Huaiye sneered inwardly. It seemed that the little charlatan's words were about to fall apart on their own.

He was even somewhat looking forward to seeing her expression after she was proven wrong.

However, the next second, the car in front suddenly slowed down, revealing a temporary construction sign.

The road, which was originally clear, suddenly became congested.

"What's going on! Why is there construction all of a sudden! They didn't even tell us beforehand!" the drivers ahead complained.

"Yeah, I'm going to be late for work, I'm so frustrated!" A driver in the next lane couldn't help but grumble.

"Hey, let's change our route and stop arguing!" someone suggested.

The private cars kept honking and cursing, so they had no choice but to change lanes.

Driver Uncle Chen also frowned and chose a different navigation app.

The navigation system indicates that the only way to get to the conference venue is via Chengnan Highway.

When Xie Huaiye saw the South City Highway, his pupils dilated slightly, and he gasped.

He paused, then asked, "Uncle Chen, is this the only road?"

Uncle Chen nodded, his tone somewhat helpless: "That road was under construction, so this is the only way to get to the meeting venue now."

"..."

Xie Huaiye frowned and remained silent, weighing his options in his mind.

He recalled Su Yanning's words from yesterday, including the "great tribulation at twenty" and the "road that will disfigure you."

He felt uneasy, but also thought it might just be a coincidence.

"Don't worry, Mr. Xie, I guarantee I'll arrive at the meeting on time!"

Uncle Chen thought Xie Huaiye was worried about the long distance and not being able to get to the meeting venue in time, so he stepped on the gas and drove quickly towards Chengnan Highway.

Xie Huaiye sat in the car, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes.

He looked at the scenery rushing past the window, feeling a mix of unease and trepidation.

At school.

Yan Ning walked alone towards the office with her homework.

She pushed open the door and saw Teacher Qiao sitting at her desk, secretly swallowing some huge pills, her movements appearing somewhat flustered.

After handing in her homework, Yan Ning couldn't help but remind her, "Teacher Qiao, you don't actually need to eat these things; they're useless."

Teacher Qiao was taken aback, her expression turning somewhat awkward, and she quickly covered it up by saying:

"No, Yan Ning, you've misunderstood. I'm just taking ordinary health supplements, nothing special..."

Yan Ning looked at Teacher Qiao's face. Her face was round and blunt, her nose bridge was flat, her nostrils were thin and fleshless, her upper lip was thin, and her forehead was wide.

This is a very kind face, but it also makes one easily deceived.

Yan Ning sighed inwardly and decided to tell her the truth.

"Teacher Qiao, I'll just tell you the truth."

Yan Ning's tone was calm, yet it revealed a hint of determination: "I grew up in a Taoist temple, and I know how to read faces and tell fortunes."

"Judging from your face, you are destined for a life of toil, spending your whole life working hard and rarely living for yourself. Also, have you been pressured to have a child lately?"

Teacher Qiao lowered her eyes, a hint of helplessness flashing in them, and nodded.

"Hey, to be honest, my mother-in-law has been pressuring me to have a baby every day lately, but I can't get pregnant, so it's really giving me a headache."

Yan Ning picked up a pill from the table and gently smelled it.

Her brow furrowed slightly, and her tone was serious: "This stuff is just a mixture of herbs; it's completely useless."

"And I also smelled something different, which may be the root cause of your inability to conceive."

Teacher Qiao was stunned, an expression of disbelief on her face: "These pills were bought by my mother-in-law at a high price. I don't know if they'll work or not, but at least they won't harm me!"

Yan Ning said calmly, "It contains musk and sparganium rhizome. It's impossible to get pregnant from long-term use."

Her voice was soft, yet it was like a bombshell, leaving Teacher Qiao instantly shocked.

"How could this be? Why would my mother-in-law treat me like this? She clearly wants me to have a child!"

Teacher Qiao's eyes gradually reddened, and her voice trembled slightly.

Yan Ning paused, then continued, "These two medicinal herbs weren't added by your mother-in-law, but rather..."

Teacher Qiao opened her eyes wide and pressed, "If it's not my mother-in-law, then who is it? Yan Ning, tell me! I just want to know the truth!"

Yan Ning pondered for a moment, "It was your husband who added it. He deliberately wanted to prevent you from getting pregnant."

Teacher Qiao was even more shocked when she heard this, and her expression immediately became very helpless.

Yan Ning continued, "You two met through a blind date. Your mother-in-law is very satisfied with you, but your husband doesn't like you. He only married you because of pressure from his family."

“He has a first love outside of your marriage, and you have never lost contact with her after you got married. He never wanted you to get pregnant, so he secretly added something to your pills to make you unable to conceive.”

"And your husband's mistress is now pregnant with his child."

"His plan is that if you can't have a child within a year, he'll divorce you, marry his mistress, and bring the kids home!"
