Yan Ning couldn't help but laugh:
"Sun Wuji, your eyes are practically popping out of your head! Are you that surprised?"
Sun Wuji slapped his thigh.
His gaze swept back and forth between Xie Huaiye and Yan Ning:
"Wait! I can't be the first to know that you two... are together, can I?!"
Xie Huaiye remained calm, but a slight smile played on his lips as he nodded.
"Yes, you're the first one."
"Holy crap! This is the biggest surprise of my entire treasure hunt!"
Sun Wuji was so excited he almost jumped up. "It's a deal! I have to sit at the head table at our wedding! I want to be the officiant!"
At this moment.
Qi Minghao's voice suddenly broke in:
"Good morning! What are you chatting about that's making you so happy?"
He, Su Muyao, and Basha had just arrived nearby.
They were drawn over by Sun Wuji's loud voice.
Sun Wuji immediately started showing off: "I'm talking about the two of them—oh my!"
He was lightly kicked by Yan Ning, and quickly changed his tune:
"They say we found two treasures! Pretty amazing, right?"
Qi Minghao was indeed influenced, and said enviously:
"That's amazing! We only found one."
Su Muyao didn't reply.
Her gaze fell on Xie Huaiye's hands, which were naturally protecting Yan Ning's side.
His eyes dimmed noticeably, and he managed a weak smile.
Sun Wuji, without a care in the world, suggested:
"The fourth treasure will definitely be harder to find, why don't we go together?"
Qi Minghao was about to nod and say "Okay".
A rapid, thunderous sound of horses' hooves approached from afar.
He rudely interrupted everyone's conversation.
"Get out of the way! All of you, get out of the way!"
A sharp shout rang out, accompanied by the crack of a whip piercing the air.
Seven or eight burly men riding tall horses and dressed in dark, tight-fitting clothes were seen charging straight towards them.
The people on the street scattered and fled like startled birds.
A vendor couldn't dodge in time, and his stall was kicked over by a horse's hoof.
Fruits and melons were scattered all over the ground, but people dared not speak out in anger.
The leader was a burly man with dark skin and a full beard.
They headed straight for a small clinic.
He pulled hard on the reins, and the horse reared up, neighing.
He jumped off his horse and rushed in without saying a word.
A moment later, they actually dragged out an old doctor with white hair!
"Grandpa! I beg you! I'm truly powerless to help the old clan chief with his illness! Please spare me..."
The old doctor was so frightened that he trembled all over and almost knelt down.
"Stop talking nonsense! If you can't be cured, you can just wait to rot in the dungeon!"
The burly man's voice boomed like thunder, brute forcefully shoving the old man, "Go!"
Some of the people around looked on with pity.
They whispered amongst themselves, but no one dared to step forward.
Yan Ning frowned and asked Basha beside him:
"These people are too arrogant. Who exactly are they?"
Basha lowered her voice and explained quickly:
“They are from the Hashi family. In this ancient city, the city chief advocates peace, but his words don’t carry much weight.”
"The Hashi family was the most powerful in the old days, controlling the guards and acting tyrannically. There was also a group of poor people struggling to survive."
"Recently, the old patriarch of the Hashi family has contracted a strange illness and is on the verge of death. They are frantically searching for doctors everywhere."
"If they can't cure a patient, they're labeled as quacks and locked up. Several doctors have already disappeared... It's truly a tragedy."
"Hurry up!"
At this moment, the burly man seemed annoyed that the old doctor was walking too slowly, and gave him another vicious shove.
The old man stumbled and almost fell.
Yan Ning's face darkened, and he instinctively stepped forward.
Xie Huaiye gently pulled her wrist and whispered:
"Don't be impulsive, there are too many of them."
Yan Ning glanced back at him, her eyes calm, and gently brushed his hand away:
"Don't worry, I know what I'm doing."
She took a few steps forward and asked in a loud voice:
"Warrior, please wait! I wonder what kind of intractable disease the old clan chief is suffering from? Perhaps I can help."
The burly man turned around abruptly upon hearing the sound.
His fierce gaze swept over Yan Ning like a knife, full of contempt:
"Where did this outsider come from? Get out of here! You have no right to speak here!"
Yan Ning, however, remained neither humble nor arrogant. Instead, she smiled slightly, her voice clear and calm:
"What a coincidence! I happen to have some medical knowledge, and I might be able to give it a try for difficult and complicated cases. Don't you want to save the old clan chief?"
The burly man sized Yan Ning up and down a few times.
Seemingly convinced she wasn't lying, and figuring out that catching as many as possible was better than catching anyone else, he replied gruffly:
"Alright! Then come with us!"
Upon hearing this, Sun Wuji became anxious and immediately stood up:
"Wait! We're together, we'll go too!"
The burly man whirled around, his eyes glaring, his voice booming so loud it made your ears ring:
"This is a medical treatment trip, not a sightseeing trip! If you can't be cured, you'll all be locked up in the dungeon! Are you all here to die?"
Sun Wuji shrank back, his neck shrinking as he was yelled at, and muttered under his breath:
"Why are you being so fierce... It's not like we're going to fight."
"One more at most!" the burly man waved his hand impatiently. "No discussion!"
Without hesitation, Xie Huaiye stepped to Yan Ning's side and said calmly:
“I’m her assistant, and I’m going with her.”
The burly man didn't waste any more words, snorted coldly, turned his horse around, and shouted:
"Walk!"
Several guards roughly pushed Yan Ning, Xie Huaiye, and the old doctor.
They squeezed into a dilapidated, cramped carriage.
The car door slammed shut with a bang, and the lock was on the outside.
The carriage jolted suddenly and lurched forward.
