Night had fallen, and the ancient town gradually returned to tranquility.
The sounds of fighting in the garden alerted other residents living nearby.
Everyone rushed over and, upon seeing the unconscious Su Muyao, immediately panicked.
"Quick! Get him to the hospital!" someone shouted.
Basha picked up Su Muyao in one go, with Qi Minghao following closely behind.
The group hurriedly put Su Muyao in the car and headed to the hospital in the ancient town.
Su Muyao was rushed into the emergency room.
Yan Ning and Xie Huaiye stayed at their residence and did not go with them.
Both of them looked exhausted.
"How are you, Ningning?"
Xie Huaiye asked softly, his gaze falling on Yan Ning's slightly pale face.
Yan Ning shook her head: "It's nothing, I'm just a little tired..."
"I didn't expect this ancient town to be hiding so many monsters. It seems we need to be more careful on our treasure hunt."
Xie Huaiye nodded, his brows furrowing slightly: "That's right, we must never let our guard down again."
Xie Huaiye escorted Yan Ning back to her room.
The moonlight shone on the bluestone path, casting long shadows of the two people.
Upon reaching the door, Yan Ning said softly, "Thank you for bringing me back. Get some rest."
She was about to close the door.
But then they found Xie Huaiye still standing there, seemingly wanting to say something but holding back.
"What's wrong?" Yan Ning asked.
Xie Huaiye took a small step forward, his voice very soft:
"I just... feel a little sorry for you."
Yan Ning looked up at him.
“You’re always at the forefront, slaying demons and monsters, expending so much effort.”
Xie Huaiye continued, his voice full of worry, "It makes me very uncomfortable."
Yan Ning smiled slightly: "This is what I should do, don't worry."
"But I can tell you're very tired."
Xie Huaiye's voice was deep, "I can feel myself getting stronger in these battles. Don't worry, I will definitely protect you well in the future."
Yan Ning looked into his earnest eyes and felt a warmth in her heart:
"I know, I believe you."
Xie Huaiye reached out and gently pulled her into his arms.
Yan Ning did not refuse and quietly leaned against his chest.
This hug, though brief, was warm and could dispel the fatigue of the night.
Goodnight, Ningning.
Xie Huaiye released his hand and said softly.
"good evening."
Yan Ning responded softly, watched him turn and leave, and then gently closed the door.
After Xie Huaiye returned to his room.
I tossed and turned in bed.
My mind was filled with the image of Yan Ning looking slightly tired.
He suddenly remembered a casual conversation he had once had.
Yan Ning once said that her favorite food is freshly steamed xiaolongbao (soup dumplings).
Take a bite while it's still warm.
The feeling of the soup filling your mouth is especially blissful.
"Make this one!"
He sat up abruptly and tiptoed into the kitchen.
The kitchen was quiet.
Only the moonlight shone through the windowpane, casting a silvery glow.
He pulled out a bag of flour, found a large bowl, and started pouring it in.
As a result, the force was not well controlled, and there was a "poof" sound.
Flour got all over his face, even turning his eyebrows white.
He hurriedly wiped his face.
But I accidentally knocked over the water glass.
It was poured right over the flour I had just weighed out.
Okay, the batter is too thick.
"Let's start over, let's start over..."
He muttered to himself as he regrouped.
This time he learned his lesson.
I carefully added water and kneaded the dough, but it was either too hard or too soft.
My hands are covered in sticky residue.
He tried to knead and pull the dough, but it seemed to be working against him, and he couldn't get it smooth no matter how hard he tried.
Just as he was struggling with a lump of dough.
The kitchen door creaked open.
Sun Wuji, who had just returned from the hospital, poked his head in.
At a glance, Xie Huaiye was covered in flour and looked flustered.
He immediately widened his eyes and asked:
"Wow! Young Master Xie?! Are you... fighting or cooking?"
He grinned and leaned closer, "What grudge does this dough have against you?"
Xie Huaiye was a little embarrassed. He wiped the sweat from his forehead, only to get another white streak on his forehead.
"I want to make some xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) for Yan Ning's breakfast tomorrow."
Sun Wuji's eyes lit up immediately: "Wow, Young Master Xie! So thoughtful!"
He leaned closer to look at the bowl of misshapen dough and burst out laughing:
"But it seems the enemy is a bit difficult to deal with. Do we need reinforcements?"
Xie Huaiye couldn't help but laugh: "You've come at the perfect time. I was about to be defeated by this dough."
Sun Wuji immediately washed his hands and came over to help.
Although he wasn't exactly a master chef, he was at least more skilled than Xie Huaiye.
"Add water little by little... Yes, knead it like this... Hey, look, it's formed now!"
Under Sun Wuji's guidance.
Xie Huaiye gradually found his rhythm.
The dough finally became smooth and soft, emitting a faint aroma of wheat.
Next comes preparing the filling.
Xie Huaiye carefully chopped the meat into a fine paste.
I added seasonings, and even added extra minced ginger.
He remembered that Yan Ning liked this flavor.
The most difficult part is making the buns.
Xie Huaiye's first steamed bun was flat and collapsed.
The pleats were pinched crookedly.
It looks like a shy little bump when placed on the plate.
Sun Wuji laughed so hard he was shaking: "Young Master Xie, your steamed bun looks quite unique!"
Xie Huaiye was not discouraged and said with self-deprecation, "My first work won me over with sincerity."
He picked up another piece of leather, carefully recalled Sun Wuji's technique, and slowly pinched out folds.
The second, the third...
Gradually, the xiaolongbao he made became more and more presentable.
Although it's not as exquisite as Sun Wuji's bun, at least you can tell it's a xiaolongbao (soup dumpling).
