When Yan Ning saw him come out, she said calmly, "You must be Chu Yi."
Since Shen Xiyue couldn't see Chu Yi, she widened her eyes and fearfully stepped behind Yan Ning.
Chu Yi floated in front of Yan Ning and said fiercely, "Who are you? Why are you stopping me from finding her!"
Yan Ning raised an eyebrow. "Don't worry about who I am. I'm going to take care of this matter today."
Chu Yi's lips curled into a disdainful smile, and he snorted coldly:
"You, a little brat, are simply asking for death!"
As soon as he finished speaking, he pushed off with his feet and pounced towards Yan Ning.
Su Yi remained calm and composed. She slowly reached into her pocket, took out a talisman, and tossed it into the air.
The talisman was instantly ignited, bursting into a blue flame.
The flames flickered and danced, emitting a faint glow, as they flew towards the direction from which Chu Yi was rushing.
Seeing that the situation was not good, Chu Yi quickly took several steps back and dodged the blue flames.
A blue flame grazed past the hem of his clothes, and a burnt smell immediately filled the air.
Yan Ning looked at the still-shaken Chu Yi, her expression calm, and said in a clear, cold voice:
"You're nothing but a ghost hiding in the mortal world. You have no chance against me."
"I advise you to stop making futile struggles and obediently explain why you keep bothering Xiyue?"
Upon hearing this, Chu Yi's fierce expression froze instantly, as if all his strength had been drained away.
He stood frozen in place, his eyes lowered, his long eyelashes casting a shadow on his cheeks, making it impossible to see his expression.
He opened his lips, his voice hoarse, tinged with a sob:
"Because I love her..."
His voice trembled slightly, as if he was trying to suppress his pain:
"We loved each other so much and promised to be together forever, how could she forget me so easily?"
Why does she have absolutely no recollection of me now?
Upon hearing this, Yan Ning couldn't help but exclaim "Holy crap!" in his mind.
She frowned slightly, her gaze shifting back and forth between Chu Yi and Shen Xiyue.
A cute and sweet girl, and a creepy male ghost.
Unexpectedly, the two had a past life connection.
Your lover from a past life has come looking for you, and things are getting a bit tricky.
Shen Xiyue couldn't see Chu Yi's face, nor could she hear him speak. She stared with innocent, wide eyes and asked softly:
"Yan Ning, what's going on now?"
Yan Ning smiled and reassured him, "It's alright, I'm still asking him. You wait here for a bit, I'll call you when it's done."
Shen Xiyue looked ahead in confusion, then nodded obediently and said gently, "Okay, then I'll wait for you."
Chu Yi stared blankly at Shen Xiyue, his eyes filled with unyielding sorrow. He smiled bitterly and said:
"In my previous life, I was a poor and destitute scholar with nothing in my house."
"She was from a prestigious family, living in a grand mansion, and should have been worlds apart from me."
"On the Lantern Festival, as the lanterns were lit, I spotted her in the crowded throng at a glance."
"She was dressed in a brocade dress and adorned with pearl and jade hair ornaments. She was as beautiful as a fairy from heaven. We met under a lantern painted with mandarin ducks."
"During our conversation, I was impressed by her talent, and she also admired my knowledge."
"That night, we strolled through the streets, sharing our innermost thoughts, and before we knew it, we had made a secret pact to spend our lives together."
"Later, I decided to go to the capital to take the imperial examination. Heaven rewards those who persevere, and I finally became the top scholar."
"The moment I heard the good news, I was eager to go back to her side."
“I thought that with official rank and title, I would have enough confidence to propose to her family and give her a bright and honorable future.”
Chu Yi paused, his voice slightly choked, and then continued:
"However, when I returned to my hometown, I discovered that she had been forced into marriage by her family seven days earlier and had become someone else's bride!"
“He was the son of a wealthy merchant, and they were a perfect match. But I was unwilling to lose her like that, so I secretly sneaked into her husband’s house.”
"The moment I saw her and the tears glistening in her eyes, I knew that she loved me too."
“I told her, ‘Let’s elope together. I’m about to take up my post in Danzhou, and we can start a new life there.’”
"She hesitated for a moment, but finally agreed, so we rode away."
"But fate always seems to play tricks on people. Not long after she escaped, her husband's family discovered her."
"They rode fast horses and pursued us relentlessly. In an attempt to stop us from escaping, they even fired arrows as a show of force."
"An arrow pierced her brow and went through her skull."
"She died tragically right in front of me, without even having time to close her eyes."
Chu Yi's eyes were glistening with tears, his expression was one of great pain, and his body trembled slightly.
“After that, I was depressed all day long and never married again. More than ten years later, I also followed her in death.”
"But my lifespan is not yet over, and the underworld will not accept me, so I can only sneak down to the human world just to see her once."
At this point, Chu Yi's voice choked with emotion. He looked up at Shen Xiyue, his eyes filled with pain:
"But now she stands in front of me, yet she can't see me and doesn't remember me!"
"I could only sneak into her dreams, trying to awaken her memories."
Yan Ning lowered his eyes, pondered for a moment, and then realized that it all matched!
The reason why Shen Xiyue suffers from migraines all year round is because she was shot through the brain by an arrow in her previous life.
That's why I'll always have a dull headache in this lifetime!
Just then, there was a knock on the door, and the maid said from outside:
