Yan Ning wasn't angry. Instead, she smiled gently and said calmly and respectfully:
"I'm sorry to have made you laugh, Uncle. Although I haven't read many books, my master has taught me to be polite since I was a child, and I will never bring shame to the family."
Yan Ning paused, her expression turning sorrowful. Her eyes lowered, and tears welled in them. "Upon returning this time, I learned that my father is seriously ill, and my heart is breaking. We haven't seen each other for over a decade, and I never expected to hear such news..."
She choked up and couldn't continue, looking so pitiful that it evoked sympathy in people's hearts.
Su Chengyue had been observing Yan Ning's every move, and seeing how sensible and proper she was, he couldn't help but be moved.
He slowly raised his hand, waved it, and his tone softened considerably:
"Whether he goes to school or not isn't a big deal, as long as the child is sensible. Yanting is seriously ill, go and check on him in his room."
After saying that, he waved his hand, indicating that Yan Ning could leave.
Yan Ning followed Steward Liu to a room, and upon opening the door, she smelled a strong medicinal odor.
A tired-looking middle-aged man sat on the bed reading a book.
The moment Yan Ning saw Su Yanting, she knew he was about to die.
His face was ashen, his eyes were dark-rimmed, his gaze was vacant, his life palace was dull and lifeless, and a thick aura of death lingered between his brows.
Upon seeing Yan Ning enter, Su Yanting paused for a moment, then a smile appeared on his face. His voice was hoarse as he said:
"Girl, you're back?"
Yan Ning stepped forward and took Su Yanting's hand, her eyes brimming with tears, and said, "Dad, I'm back. I'm Yan Ning."
As Su Yanting looked at Yan Ning's face, he couldn't help but sigh, "You look so much like your mother, Yan Ning. Your mother suffered so much; she passed away right after giving birth to you..."
“You’ve been stolen from for over ten years and must have suffered a lot. I’ll make sure you’re well taken care of from now on and repay you for all those years.”
Yan Ning nodded, her voice choked with emotion, "Mom won't blame you if she's watching over us from heaven. Dad, how are you? Are you very sick?"
Su Yanting sighed, a bitter smile appearing on his face. "I won't die anytime soon. Sigh, this is all the result of the sins I committed when I was young..."
"Cough cough cough..."
He started coughing violently again halfway through his sentence, his chest heaving.
Butler Liu walked in and said, "Miss hasn't chosen a room yet, why don't we go and take a look at some rooms first?"
Su Yanting waved his hand, "Then take Yan Ning out... cough cough, I can't talk too much because of my illness."
Yan Ning walked out of the room and came to the hall. Seeing that everyone was still gathered in the hall, the atmosphere was inexplicably heavy.
Su Muyao and Su Yao also arrived in the hall, their faces beaming with smug smiles.
Yan Ning knew that the visitors were up to no good; these two were going to cause trouble.
Su Yao curled his lip and said loudly, "Grandpa, you're just going to accept this little brat so easily? You believe her when she says she's my uncle's daughter?"
Su Muyao chimed in loudly, "That's right, Grandpa. My cousin was stolen more than ten years ago and there hasn't been a trace of her since."
"Now that my uncle is seriously ill, she has suddenly returned. It's hard not to be suspicious!"
Jiang Lan, looking troubled, took Su Yao's hand and whispered:
"You two shut up! Who gave you the right to doubt Yan Ning? Don't talk nonsense."
Su Yao pouted angrily, "Mom, I'm not making this up. She said she's my cousin, but what proof do you have? You can't just accept her as my cousin because we look alike!"
Su Chengyue frowned as he looked at Yan Ning without saying a word, but his eyes held a hint of wariness.
Su Yunting chimed in, "I heard that when my sister-in-law gave birth, the baby had a birthmark on its right arm."
"Yan Ning, why don't you show yourself to everyone and prove yourself?"
Su Muyao crossed her arms and chimed in, "Yeah, we should at least check you out, otherwise how will we know if you're just an imposter someone else found!"
Upon hearing this, Bai Yuzhen's expression darkened. She said, "Mu Yao, you can't just say things like that. Since I brought Yan Ning here, I must have already verified her identity."
Su Muyao sneered and said loudly, "You've verified it, but we haven't. Everyone knows how much you hated our family when Auntie passed away."
"Now they're rushing to send your aunt's daughter back; isn't that a bit suspicious?"
Bai Yuzhen sneered and said loudly, "I didn't want to talk about what happened back then, but since you've brought it up, then we'll have to settle accounts and see how much your Su family owes our Bai family!"
While in the car, Yan Ning heard Bai Yuzhen say that her mother, Bai Xueshu, was originally a wealthy young lady who married Su Yanting and lent a lot of money to the Su family. In the end, Su Yanting became successful, but he had an affair with someone else, causing Bai Xueshu to bleed profusely.
In short, her biological father is an absolute scumbag!
Seeing that the situation was getting out of control, Jiang Lan quickly grabbed Su Muyao's sleeve and whispered, "Xiao Yao, please say less..."
Su Muyao pouted, wanting to argue with her a few more times.
"Stop arguing, I'll check for you."
Yan Ning stood in the center of the living room and suddenly spoke, her voice clear and strong:
"But I just got back, and you're already doubting me without any explanation. It's a bit disheartening."
After saying that, she lowered her eyes, her eyelashes trembled slightly, and her eyes quickly filled with tears.
Immediately afterwards, Yan Ning pulled open her right sleeve with a resolute gesture.
On her slender arm, a black birthmark was clearly visible.
Her voice trembled slightly, choked with sobs, "Uncle, Aunt, I know I'm uneducated and a crude person, but you don't have to humiliate me like this. If you don't like me, I can leave..."
