The lights at the food stall were dim and yellowish.
The air was filled with the greasy and garbage-like smell.
Ji Xuan, wearing tank tops and shorts, sat on a plastic stool, surrounded by several blond-haired thugs.
They put their arms around her shoulders, but Ji Xuan didn't seem to care. She casually put her wine glass on the table, waved her hand, and said:
"Come on, everyone! Drink up! I closed a big deal today, it's on me!"
The thug next to him with the nose piercing grinned and said:
"Wow, Sister Xuan, I never thought your face could actually be sold for money."
"He's worth way more than your body. We're following you from now on!"
"Stop with all this nonsense, come on, let's drink!"
Ji Xuan waved her hand and continued to urge people to drink.
At this moment, Yan Ning stepped out from the crowd and came to stand in front of Ji Xuan.
When Ji Xuan saw the face that looked so much like her own, she was so startled that her hand trembled and she exclaimed:
"You? You're Su Yanning! What brings you here?"
Yan Ning said calmly, "Yes, I came here specifically to find you."
The thugs nearby exchanged glances, and one of them said in a sarcastic tone:
"Sister Xuan, things are really bad now. Your enemy has come knocking on your door. You'd better leave and pray for good fortune!"
After saying that, the group exchanged glances and then disappeared in a flash.
Yan Ning walked to the table, sat down, and said:
"Let's talk."
Ji Xuan frowned and said loudly, "Let me tell you, talking won't help! Even if you come looking for me, there's no room for negotiation!"
Looking at Ji Xuan's face, which resembled his own, Yan Ning felt no disgust, but rather a pity.
She knew that Ji Xuan must have gone through a lot of painful things to become the way she is now.
"Ji Xuan, let me tell your fortune," Yan Ning said softly.
Ji Xuan sneered: "Fortune telling? Do you think this is some kind of scam for children? I don't have any money for you!"
Yan Ning ignored her sarcasm and began to cast a divination on her own.
She closed her eyes, remained silent for a moment, then opened them and looked at Ji Xuan with a complex emotion in her eyes.
"Ji Xuan, do you know about your background?"
Yan Ning spoke calmly, his voice steady and powerful.
Ji Xuan froze, her expression stiffening, a disdainful smile creeping onto her lips:
"Background? What good is that! I'm used to my current life. Don't try to play tricks on me, you fortune teller!"
She slammed her hand on the table, causing the wine glass to shake violently.
The wine spilled out, splashing onto her worn-out overalls.
Yan Ning was not intimidated by her rudeness; instead, she spoke even more calmly:
"You were born in the spring of 2008, on a sunny afternoon."
"Your home is in a quiet little town with a clear river flowing through it, and willow trees planted along its banks."
"Your parents are both primary school teachers. They educate and nurture students and are deeply loved by them."
Ji Xuan's expression changed slightly, and a hint of confusion flashed in her eyes, as if she was trying hard to recall something.
“When you were three years old, you liked to sit in the yard and watch your father plant flowers in the garden.”
“When you were four years old, your mother started teaching you to read. You learned very quickly and could always remember those interesting words.”
“When you were five years old, you started kindergarten. You were always the first one to arrive at the classroom and draw and sing with your friends.”
Ji Xuan's breathing quickened, and a blurry image appeared in her mind.
She saw herself sitting in a small classroom.
Outside the window are lush green fields.
Sunlight streamed through the window and fell warmly on the desks.
A flicker of panic crossed her eyes as she spoke loudly:
"You're talking nonsense! I don't know what you're talking about! I don't want to hear it!"
She stood up, wanting to leave, but Yan Ning gently pulled her arm.
Yan Ning continued, "However, when you were five years old, an accident happened."
"Your parents were hit by an out-of-control truck on their way home and died instantly."
"You were sent to the hospital and survived, but you lost your memory. Later, you were kidnapped by a criminal gang and embarked on this path."
Ji Xuan's eyes were filled with shock. She tried to refute, but found herself speechless.
Those vague fragments of memory were pieced together again in my mind.
It made her feel dizzy.
She abruptly shook off Yan Ning's hand and shouted, "You're talking nonsense! I don't know what you're talking about! You liar!"
Yan Ning wasn't angry; her eyes were filled with pity.
“Ji Xuan, I know this is hard to accept, but it’s the truth. You are actually very kind at heart, but you’ve been affected by the hardships of life and the people around you.”
"You've always longed to escape this kind of life, but you don't know how."
Ji Xuan's mind was in complete turmoil; those long-buried memories were awakened at this moment.
She remembers having a warm home where her parents always smiled at her and told her stories.
She remembered that she used to enjoy drawing, drawing colorful flowers and flying birds.
However, those memories were all shattered by an accident.
She was brought to this dark world and forced to accept a completely different life.
"You're talking nonsense! The boss told me I was abandoned by my parents, I don't have any parents at all!"
“I’ve lived in the old town since I was a child. The old town is my home. There is no love around me, and I don’t need it!”
Ji Xuan's voice was choked with sobs, and she finally couldn't hold back her tears.
