Yan Ning was not afraid at all; she said calmly:
"Mother-in-law, I've come to you now to tell you the truth."
The old woman scoffed disdainfully, "The truth? The truth is that I was pushed off the cliff by Bai Shanhe."
"She killed me, what other truth is there?"
"Grandma, take a look at this."
Yan Ning took the handkerchief out of her backpack and handed it to the old woman.
The handkerchief was slightly yellowed and covered with dirt and dust, but the words "Spring Snow" were still clearly visible.
The old woman's gaze fell on the handkerchief, and her eyes widened instantly.
She recognized the handkerchief at a glance; it was the handkerchief she had painstakingly embroidered stitch by stitch.
She clearly lost it when she climbed into the cave, how did it end up in Yan Ning's hands!
The old woman opened her eyes wide and asked in a trembling voice:
"Where did you get this? I lost it a long time ago, how did you find it!"
Yan Ning smiled faintly and said, "Grandma, I found this handkerchief in the cave. In order to find the truth, I went to Baishi Mountain and climbed into that cave."
"You actually went to that cave all by yourself? Good heavens!"
The old woman's face grew paler and paler as she stared at Yan Ning in disbelief.
Yan Ning pondered for a moment, then continued, "That's right, I went alone. In the cave, I encountered a little devil who disguised himself as my master and tried to lower my guard."
“He kept saying many caring things to me, making me believe that he was my master. But he didn’t know that my master had died long ago, and I buried him myself.”
"Kid? Disguise?"
Upon hearing this, the old woman trembled slightly, as if she were recalling something.
Yan Ning nodded. "I fought a fierce battle with him, and after a fierce struggle, I finally defeated him."
"After eliminating the little devils, I found many people's belongings in the cave."
Yan Ning lowered her eyes, her voice softening slightly, "Clothes, shoes, hat, and even a child's teddy bear."
“Those belongings break my heart, and among them, I found your handkerchief.”
"So, this is the truth..."
A tear glistened in the old woman's eyes. Her hands trembled as she tried to take the handkerchief, but dared not touch it.
Yan Ning said gently, "Yes, Mother-in-law, this is the truth. You have been deceived for forty years."
"Why? Why did I never know the truth until my death? It turns out I've been taking revenge on the wrong person all along! I wrongly accused Sun-ha!"
The old woman finally couldn't hold back her tears and they streamed down her face.
Yan Ning said in a deep voice, "Mother-in-law, this is not your fault. After all, you saw it with your own eyes, so it's hard not to believe it."
"My grandmother has lived with guilt all these years, and I hope you can reconcile."
The old woman nodded. "I wronged Shanhe. I'm sorry. All those years of hatred turned out to be just a misunderstanding. I think I should go now."
Yan Ning hesitated for a moment, then asked, "Mother-in-law, before you leave, would you like to see my maternal grandmother?"
The old woman shook her head and said, "I don't want to see her anymore. After so many years of grudges and entanglements, I have no face to see her again."
"Yan Ning, please pass on a message to her: if she doesn't live to be a hundred, come looking for me. I won't let her get away with this!"
After saying that, the old woman waved her hand, turned around, and disappeared.
Yan Ning walked out of the room and into the living room, where Bai Shanhe was touching her waist in surprise, muttering to herself:
"Why did the pain suddenly stop? That's strange."
Yan Ning walked over and said to Bai Shanhe with a smile, "Grandma, the matter has been resolved. That old woman left after learning the truth."
Bai Shanhe was somewhat surprised and asked, "Did she leave so soon? I still have so much to say to her."
"That Chunxue is really something. She's been bothering me for so many years, but she left without even looking back."
Yan Ning told Bai Shanhe what the old woman had said. After listening, Bai Shanhe shook her head and said with tears in her eyes:
"Hey, she even warned me before leaving. That girl is really something. Looks like I should go and offer her some incense and have a good chat with her."
Yan Ning glanced at the time and said with a smile, "It's getting late, I have to go back now, Grandma. I'll come visit you again next time."
Although Bai Shanhe was reluctant to part with him, she still nodded, "Thank you for your hard work, Yan Ning. I will definitely treat you well next time you come."
After saying goodbye to Bai Shanhe, Yan Ning returned to the Su family home in Bai Yuzhen's car.
As soon as she got home, she lay down on the bed and fell fast asleep. She was so tired that all she wanted to do was rest.
The next day, Yan Ning went to school again. She studied very hard in the morning and took many notes.
Lunch break was approaching, and she stretched, preparing to lie down on her desk for a good rest.
Just then, Teacher Qiao suddenly walked into the classroom.
She walked to Yan Ning's desk, leaned down slightly, patted Yan Ning's shoulder, and said softly:
"Yan Ning, someone is looking for you."
Yan Ning was taken aback. Who would be looking for me? Did I get another job?
I got up and followed Teacher Qiao out of the classroom.
The two walked down the corridor and arrived at the meeting room door. Teacher Qiao reached out and pushed the door open, gesturing for Yan Ning to go in.
In the conference room, a man dressed in an artistic style was sitting on one side of the conference table.
He looked to be around thirty years old, with a handsome face and regular features. He was wearing a loose linen shirt, straight-leg jeans, and white canvas shoes.
