Yan Ning's words were direct and rough, but every sentence made sense.
Xie Heng took a closer look and saw that the talisman was as thin as straw paper, the red color looked wrong, and it was drawn in a mess.
It was completely different from the talismans he had seen in temples before.
Xie Heng's heart sank.
Master Huang was exposed on the spot and completely panicked, pointing at Yan Ning:
"You, you know nothing! Do you even know how to draw talismans?"
"I don't know how to draw talismans?"
Yan Ning sneered, her gaze sweeping across Master Huang's face like a knife. "I not only know how to draw talismans, I also know how to read people!"
"Look at you, your forehead is dark, your eyes are unfocused, you walk unsteadily, you don't have any of the proper air of a sage, but you smell of money and alcohol."
"Someone like you would be scared to walk alone at night, right? And you dare to pretend to be a ghost and scam people out of their life-saving money?"
Her barrage of words was like cannonballs, leaving Master Huang speechless and only able to wipe his sweat.
Xie Heng glanced at Master Huang's guilty and evasive look, then at Yan Ning's self-righteous demeanor, and then thought about how Xiao Zhu's headache had disappeared...
The facts are right in front of him; he almost got scammed by this conman!
A surge of anger rushed to Xie Heng's head.
He abruptly turned his head and looked at Pei Shengwu, whose expression had slightly changed beside him:
"Old Pei, what's going on? Didn't you vouch for this master and recommend him as reliable?"
Pei Shengwu blinked, feigning an even more wronged expression than Xie Heng, and put on a mournful face:
"Oh, Lao Xie, I swear to God, I was completely fooled by him!"
"That swindler! He claimed to be a true immortal from Longhu Mountain, with boundless magical powers, but who knew he was just a fake!"
Having just been exposed, Master Huang couldn't help but retort with a couple of words of defense:
"Hey, Mr. Pei, you can't say that, we're not..."
"Shut up!"
Pei Shengwu, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, immediately interrupted him:
"Who consulted with you? You're the one who lied to me! Get out of here right now, and if you say another word, believe me, I'll call the police and have you arrested right now!"
"Get out of here now!"
He yelled and then kicked Master Huang, sending him staggering.
Master Huang cursed a few times, but seeing that things were not going well, he could only slink away.
The room fell silent for a moment, but the atmosphere was a little strange.
Yan Ning raised her eyelids, her gaze sweeping over Pei Shengwu's face a few times, before slowly asking:
"Mr. Pei, how long have you known Mr. Xie?"
Pei Shengwu was taken aback, not expecting Yan Ning to ask this, and quickly put on a smiling face:
"Huh? We've known each other for a long time, been friends for many years, Lao Xie, believe me, I really was blind to have misjudged you this time."
"I swear on my integrity that this will never happen again."
Seeing his old friend's confident expression, Xie Heng's anger subsided a little, and he sighed.
"Hey, Lao Pei, I believe you. You must have been scammed by that swindler too."
Yan Ning nodded, seemingly accepting this explanation.
But then she threw out another question, her tone flat yet carrying a chill:
"The house that Mr. Xie is living in now, was it introduced to him by you?"
Pei Shengwu's smile froze for a moment, a flicker of panic flashing in his eyes, but he forced himself to remain calm and said:
"Yes, what's wrong? This house is in a good location and the price is reasonable. Is there a problem?"
Yan Ning didn't answer directly, but turned around and took something out from behind her.
It was a large, rusty iron nail.
She held the nail up to Pei Shengwu's face and waved it, her voice icy:
"Mr. Pei, do you recognize this thing?"
Pei Shengwu's heart skipped a beat as he looked at the familiar nail.
His eyes darted around, and he weakly argued:
"What nail? I don't recognize it! Where did this broken nail come from? What do you mean, little girl?"
"Don't you recognize me?"
Yan Ning's lips curled into a cold smile, his eyes sharp as knives. "This is called the Seven Star Soul-Suppressing Nail. It's something specifically used to nail a person's soul to death, making their home uneasy and even taking their life!"
"and……"
She paused deliberately, then continued, "This nail was hidden behind the headboard wall in Mr. Xie's bedroom! It was hidden very well!"
"What?! It was hidden where my wife and I sleep!"
Upon hearing this, Xie Heng's head buzzed, and he could hardly believe his ears!
He suddenly looked at Pei Shengwu, his eyes filled with shock.
Pei Shengwu panicked completely, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, and shouted loudly:
"A frame-up, a blatant frame-up! What Soul-Suppressing Nail? I've never even heard of it! Who knows if you put it in there yourself?"
"Old Xie, don't believe her, she's just trying to sow discord!"
He pointed at Yan Ning, his face flushed and his neck thick, trying to cover up his guilt with his loud voice.
"I stuffed it in?"
Yan Ning sneered, her voice not loud, but clearly drowning out Pei Shengwu's roar:
"This is my first time visiting Uncle Xie's house. I'm not even familiar with the layout. But Uncle Pei knows the house like the back of his hand. He even secretly built a basement."
"There's another listening device in the basement. Should we call the police to find out who's on the other end?"
Upon hearing this, Pei Shengwu's expression turned even uglier; he hadn't expected the listening device to be discovered.
Yan Ning narrowed his eyes and continued, "By the way, when you kicked that swindler out the door just now, a corner of the yellow paper in your right pocket accidentally peeked out."
"The symbols drawn on it are exactly the same as the symbols on this nail!"
As soon as Yan Ning finished speaking, Xie Heng immediately looked at Pei Shengwu's pocket.
