Xie Huaiye's face flushed red instantly, and the base of his ears was so hot it could fry an egg.
He wanted to disappear into the ground, and protested in a low voice:
"Dad, that happened so many years ago! Besides, the ditch was very shallow, and the car was fine."
"Nothing's wrong? The hood is all dented, it really worried your grandpa!"
Xie Heng showed no mercy to his son, getting more and more excited as he spoke, even imitating the scene at the time:
"He crawled out of the ditch covered in mud, he looked so disheveled, with a black mark on his face, like a little kitten!"
"I asked him what was going on, but he was still stubborn and said he was testing the vehicle's performance to the limit, hahaha!"
"Pfft, hahaha!"
Now Yan Ning really couldn't hold back anymore. Imagining the young Xie Huaiye looking disheveled and making excuses with a straight face, she burst out laughing.
She quickly covered her mouth with the back of her hand, but the smile in her eyes was impossible to hide.
Xie Huaiye blushed, even his neck turned red, and he wished he could bury his head in the bowl.
"Dad, even eating can't shut you up!" Xie Huaiye was practically bursting with embarrassment and anger.
"Oh, are you embarrassed? Okay, okay, I won't say anymore, I'll save you some face."
Seeing his son's embarrassed state, Xie Heng finally took pity on him and stopped talking, but the sly smile on his face didn't diminish at all.
He smiled and put another piece of pork rib on Yan Ning's plate. "Yan Ning, eat more. Look how good this story is with rice!"
Although Xiao Zhu didn't quite understand what was so funny about racing cars driving through ditches, he chuckled along with Yan Ning when he saw her laughing so happily.
Yan Ning finally managed to stop laughing, but there were still tears of laughter in the corners of her eyes.
She secretly glanced at Xie Huaiye across the street, who seemed to wish he could disappear on the spot.
I found it both funny and a little novel.
Who would have thought that Xie Huaiye, who usually seems a bit aloof, had such a wild and disastrous side in his youth?
This contrast... is quite interesting.
She quickly lowered her head and ate her rice, trying to hide the smile that she couldn't help but let up.
Xie Huaiye could only resign himself to his fate, lowering his head to pick at the rice grains in his bowl, pretending to be invisible, hoping that the meal would end soon.
However, he caught a glimpse of Yan Ning struggling to suppress her laughter out of the corner of his eye.
Deep down, besides embarrassment, there seemed to be a tiny bit of...
A feeling that I couldn't quite explain myself quietly surfaced.
Dinner was finished in a lively and cheerful manner.
Xie Heng then took Yan Ning's hand and chatted with her about everyday matters, as if he wanted to pour out all his concern at once.
As they chatted, Xie Heng glanced out the window. The moon was already high in the sky, and the streetlights cast long shadows. He then slapped his forehead:
"Oh dear, look at my memory! I was so busy talking that it's already completely dark!"
"Quickly call the driver, we need to take Xiaoning home to rest as soon as possible. It's not safe for a girl to go home too late."
"Okay, I'll head back now. Goodbye, Uncle."
After saying goodbye to them, Yan Ning was driven away by the Xie family's driver, and the room became much quieter.
Xiao Zhu, who had been quietly standing by, couldn't hold back any longer.
He rushed to his older brother Xie Huaiye like a little cannonball, grabbed his sleeve with his little hand and shook it vigorously, his face full of excitement:
"Brother, brother! I love Sister Yan Ning so much! She's so kind, speaks so gently, and is so beautiful!"
"Brother, hurry up and try to win back Sister Yanning so she can be my sister-in-law, okay?"
Xie Huaiye was left speechless, both amused and exasperated by his younger brother's direct approach.
He looked down at Xiao Zhuo's hopeful little face, smiled helplessly, and reached out to rub his head:
"Silly brother, you can like what you like, but this can't be calculated like this."
"Sister Yan Ning is an independent person. Whether she wants to be with her brother or not depends on whether she likes him or not."
"Just because you like her doesn't mean she has to date me. That's not reasonable."
At this moment, Xie Heng, who was watching the two brothers interact with a smile, walked over.
He raised his hand, with the air of someone who'd been there before, and patted Xie Huaiye on the shoulder, his tone carrying a hint of disappointment:
“Son, even your brother can see it. Let me tell you, if you like a girl, stop hesitating and being indecisive.”
"Back when your dad was your age, it was already..."
Upon hearing that Xie Heng was about to reminisce about the past again, Xie Huaiye immediately interrupted him warily:
“Dad, stop, stop. Take it easy on Mom. What if she finds out about your glorious past?”
"Believe it or not, she'll come back right away and pull your ear off. I won't be able to save you then."
Xie Heng, exposed by his son, was not angry at all; instead, he burst into laughter, lowering his voice slightly:
"You little rascal, I'm not talking nonsense! I'm imparting valuable practical experience to you, teaching you how to seize opportunities!"
Xie Huaiye waved his hand, a helpless smile appearing on his lips:
"I think it's best to forget about your practical experience, Dad. Don't worry about me. I know what I'm doing."
On the other side.
As soon as Yan Ning stepped into the house, before she had even changed her shoes, a figure suddenly sprang up from the living room sofa and blocked her way.
Yan Ning looked up and saw Su Muyao.
She crossed her arms, held her chin high, and scanned Yan Ning up and down with her eyes, her tone sharp:
"Oh, look who's back! My dear cousin, what time is it?"
"I thought you were out having a great time tonight, going on a date with some random guy!"
Yan Ning was exhausted after a long day and really didn't want to argue with her.
