Yan Ning replied softly, "Thank you, Auntie."
She walked into the warm and bright living room.
Hot food and soup bowls were already laid out on the table.
Grandma didn't ask any more questions about the details of the funeral.
He just kept putting food on her plate and gently asked her if she was tired or hungry.
This genuine warmth stood in stark contrast to the scheming of the Su family earlier.
Yan Ning held the warm soup bowl in her hands.
The rising steam slightly moistened her eyes.
She knew that the struggle might only be temporarily over.
The Su family will never let this go.
But at this moment, she was no longer alone.
She found a safe haven to rely on and gained the courage to face the storms of life.

After dinner, Grandma led Yan Ning upstairs to the second floor.
"This room faces south, so the morning sunlight is lovely; I'm sure you'll like it."
Grandma pushed open the door, and a faint scent of camphor wood wafted out.
The room was simply yet cozy.
The floral curtains swayed gently in the breeze, and a white porcelain vase sat on the desk.
Several fresh jasmine flowers were inserted inside.
Yan Ning got into bed, took out her phone, and the screen lit up the instant she took it out.
A series of messages popped up.
They all come from the same name—Xie Huaiye.
"Have we arrived, Ningning?" (16:03)
"Are you alright? Have they given you any trouble?" (19:15)
"Please pay attention to me?" (19:48)
The last message was from twenty minutes ago:
“Ningning?” (20:35)
Yan Ning's fingertips lingered on the screen for a moment, and the corners of her lips unconsciously turned up.
She dialed the number directly.
Almost the instant the call connected, the other end answered.
It happened so fast that she wondered if Xie Huaiye had been holding his phone the whole time.
"Hello, Yan Ning?"
Xie Huaiye's voice carried a hint of urgency, "How are you? You haven't replied to my messages."
"Just settled in."
Yan Ning turned over, burying her face in the soft pillow, her voice muffled:
"My grandma came to pick me up halfway through the funeral. It's all right now, don't worry."
"So...you're not coming back tonight?"
Xie Huaiye asked, his voice lowering slightly.
"Okay, I'll go back tomorrow."
Yan Ning heard a soft sigh from the other end of the phone.
"Okay." Xie Huaiye's tone was clearly disappointed.
Yan Ning smiled and teased him deliberately, "What, you missed me after just one day?"
"We've only been together for one day!"
Xie Huaiye snorted, his tone tinged with a hint of grievance, "And we've already started a long-distance relationship?"
"This doesn't count as being in a long-distance relationship!"
Yan Ning couldn't help but laugh out loud, "I'm going back first thing tomorrow morning!"
Xie Huaiye muttered softly, his voice so low it was almost inaudible:
"Then I miss you too..."

The next morning, sunlight streamed into the room through the sheer curtains.
Yan Ning had breakfast with her grandmother and aunt; it was simple yet heartwarming.
She chatted with them for a long time.
It was already noon when they returned to the Xie family home.
Pushing open the door, I immediately saw Xie Huaiye leaning against the sofa.
He was wearing a simple gray cotton T-shirt, and his hair was a little messy.
A few strands of black hair casually fell across her forehead.
His long legs were crossed, and a financial magazine lay open on his lap, but he didn't turn the pages.
He looked up when he heard the door open.
A pair of deep eyes stared straight at him, and the corners of his mouth turned down slightly.
"You still know how to come back."
He spoke, his voice carrying a deliberately feigned indifference.
Yan Ning bent down to change her shoes, her long hair slipping down her shoulders.
It covered the corners of her mouth that she couldn't help but smile.
"It's only for one day."
She deliberately avoided looking at Xie Huaiye and slowly arranged the shoes.
Just as Xie Huaiye reached the sofa, he suddenly reached out.
He grabbed her waist and pulled her into his arms.
Yan Ning gasped softly and slumped onto his warm lap.
"Thank you, Huaiye!"
She protested softly, pressing her hand against his strong chest.
You can feel the body heat coming from under the fabric.
"Don't move."
Xie Huaiye buried his face in Yan Ning's neck, took a deep breath, and said in a muffled voice:
"Let me recharge."
His hot breath sprayed onto Yan Ning's sensitive skin.
It stirred a slight shiver.
Yan Ning's heart began to beat faster involuntarily.
The hand that was pressed against Xie Huaiye's chest slowly relaxed and instead gently wrapped around his shoulder.
Yan Ning raised her hand, her fingertips running through his soft black hair.
He combed through it intermittently.
Xie Huaiye raised his head, his eyes dark and deep.
It was like a deep pool of water, staring intently at her.
My gaze slowly moved from her slightly flushed cheeks to her moist lips.
A silent longing filled the air.
It was so quiet you could hear each other's breaths mingling.
Xie Huaiye lowered his head, getting closer and closer.
The tip of her high, straight nose almost touched Yan Ning's nose.
Yan Ning's eyelashes trembled slightly as she slowly closed her eyes.
Waiting for that kiss that is about to fall.
Just as his lips were about to touch hers—
"Buzz buzz buzz—"
The cell phone on the coffee table suddenly vibrated violently at an inopportune moment.
Xie Huaiye froze, his brows furrowing instantly.
He took a deep breath, grabbed his phone, and spoke in a tone so cold it could freeze:
