Chapter 50

Chapter 50

Xu Feifei found the three novels she had borrowed from her desk and noticed that the handwriting was clearer than before. After staring intently at one of the novels, she was finally able to make out the contents.

With a sudden, weak release, the novel fell to the ground with a thud.

After a while, his body swayed and his mind was in a daze. He picked up the book, walked to the sofa, and carefully read the piece of paper.

"The printed words of the novel are becoming clearer, and the memories of reality are becoming more and more distant. Am I about to become a part of this world?"

There are only three lines of text crammed tightly onto this tiny bookmark.

"What does this mean?" Xu Feifei murmured.

These three lines were like an information bomb to her, like dropping a bomb into a calm lake, instantly stirring it up and causing it to boil.

Xu Feifei stared at the three books, completely at a loss, unsure of what to do. She slumped down beside the sofa, her eyes blankly fixed on the floor.

"Am I going to become a part of this world too?"

She was unwilling to accept this, and tried hard to recall things before she came into this world, in order to prove whether she was really forgetting the past.

After a while, Xu Feifei decided to get up with her books and head straight for the library.

Along the way, Xu Feifei hurried along, looking flustered, and ignored her surroundings as she arrived at the library.

When she arrived at the library's entrance, the doors were already closed. The building was pitch black inside, with only the lights outside the doors on.

Xu Feifei walked up the steps and tried to push the door, but it wouldn't budge. It was locked.

"Why is it closed?!"

Leaning against the transparent door, I looked inside. It was pitch black, except for the green light emanating from the emergency exit sign. Green plants were quietly displayed on the reception desk and next to the elevator.

The library next door has its opening hours listed as 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

She took out her phone, checked the time, and exclaimed in surprise, "It's already ten o'clock! It's so late!"

Then, Xu Feifei shook the door. There was still no response from inside. She walked down the steps and looked back at the library.

"I can only come and see it tomorrow." After saying this, she turned and went back.

The library was pitch black at night, except for the green light emanating from the emergency exit signs hanging on the staircases and corridors. The green plants under the lights swayed their leaves slightly, making the place seem even more tranquil and secluded.

After returning to her dormitory, Xu Feifei placed the novel on the table and lay on the sofa, staring blankly at the bookmark in her hand.

"What does this mean? Does it mean I'm not the only one who came into this world? Are there other people here?"

She remembered that Xiaoxue had lent her this novel. Could it be that Xiaoxue had also come into this world?

But the handwriting doesn't look right, and the bookmark is a bit old, with layers on the edges and corners, so it's obviously not a recent bookmark.

The person who wrote this bookmark must have arrived earlier than her, and besides, Xiaoxue's novel is already being used as a mattress pad, so very few people have read it anymore.

Could it be...?

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, which immediately pulled Xu Feifei back to reality. As she walked over, she asked, "Lin Yuan, are you back?"

There was no answer from outside the door, but the knocking continued.

Xu Feifei stopped, her hand hovering over the lock as she looked through the peephole; it was pitch black. She tentatively asked, "Lin Yuan, is that you?"

There was still no answer from outside the door, but the knocking grew increasingly urgent.

Xu Feifei took a half step back, her pupils involuntarily dilating as she stared at the door, which was shaking slightly from being pounded on. A chill ran down her spine, her muscles stiffened, and she recalled that nightmare.

Xu Feifei turned around in a panic, hurried into the living room, and took out her phone. She found Lin Yuan and sent her a voice message: "Lin Yuan, do you know the dorm supervisor's phone number? Someone keeps knocking on my door, I'm a little scared!"

Xu Feifei gripped her phone tightly, staring at the door.

After a while, there was no more movement.

Her heart, which had been hanging in suspense, involuntarily calmed down. She glanced at her phone and saw that Lin Yuan had sent her several WeChat messages.

Upon opening the voice message, Lin Yuan's urgent voice could be heard: "Please don't open the door! I've already called the dorm manager and asked her to come over."

"I'm on my way back now, wait for me!"

"Hide first, and remember to bring a weapon for self-defense. For example, a vase or something large that you can lift."

After listening to several voice messages, Xu Feifei said, "The door isn't ringing anymore, it seems like the person has left!"

Xu Feifei returned to her room and locked the door. Following Lin Yuan's instructions, she held a vase and huddled behind the door, listening to the sounds outside.

A moment later, someone outside called out, "Hey student, I'm the dorm supervisor! Are you still there? Open the door."

Upon hearing that it was the dormitory supervisor, Xu Feifei cautiously opened the door and walked towards the entrance. Looking through the peephole, she saw the person and, after confirming it was indeed the supervisor, opened the door.

As soon as I opened the door, I saw Lin Yuan coming over, panting and covered in sweat.

"Lin Yuan." The moment she saw Lin Yuan, the fear in her heart dissipated considerably.

"Feifei." Upon seeing Feifei, Lin Yuan finally felt relieved and breathed a sigh of relief.

Xu Feifei looked at the beads of sweat on her forehead and listened to her still-breathing breath, "Did you run all the way here?"

"Hey, what's going on here?" the dormitory supervisor asked from the side.

Lin Yuan also looked at her with anxious concern.

"Auntie, come in and we'll talk." After they went inside, Xu Feifei peeked around the door to make sure no one was there, then closed the door.

As soon as Xu Feifei went in, she handed Lin Yuan a tissue so she could wipe the sweat from her forehead.

“Auntie, I heard someone knocking on my door five minutes ago. Before I opened the door, I asked who it was, but no one answered. I tried to look through the peephole, but it was blocked. Then the knocking got louder and louder, and she almost broke the door.”

"I was all alone at the time, and I was terrified." Xu Feifei recalled the scene with lingering fear, her shoulders trembling slightly.

Suddenly, Xu Feifei felt a warmth in her hand. Looking down, she saw Lin Yuan holding her hand, and the warmth instantly went straight to her heart.

"Okay, I'll check the surveillance footage when I get back. I'll let you know once I've caught the culprit," the dormitory supervisor said.

"Auntie, can I come over and watch the surveillance footage with you?" Lin Yuan asked.

Xu Feifei held Lin Yuan's arm, looked at her, and didn't say anything.

Lin Yuan turned around and looked at her, saying, "It's okay, I want to go and see."

The dormitory supervisor glanced at her phone and said, "Okay, but it's too late now. Come to the dormitory office tomorrow morning and I'll take you there."

Lin Yuan nodded.

Before leaving, the dormitory manager said, "Don't worry, everything will be fine. If anything happens, call our duty phone number immediately, and we'll send someone over."

"Telephone? What's the telephone number?"

"The dormitory manager's phone number is written in the freshman orientation handbook. Please write it down when you get back."

"New student check-in handbook?" Xu Feifei looked at the aunt with a blank expression, then looked at Lin Yuan.

Lin Yuan said, "I'll send it to you in a bit."

After hearing this, the dormitory supervisor nodded in satisfaction. "It's very late now, hurry up and wash up and go to sleep! Don't stay up late, and you can ask me for help if you need anything!"

"Okay." After seeing the aunt off, Xu Feifei saw Lin Yuan sitting on the sofa with a thoughtful expression.

"I'm sorry, Lin Yuan."

Lin Yuan snapped out of her daze and saw her apologizing to her with a guilty expression. "What's wrong?"

"Did I disturb your competition tonight? Is it too late to go back now? I was so panicked at the time, and you were the first person I thought of. I..." Xu Feifei's voice trailed off as she spoke.

Lin Yuan frowned upon hearing the first sentence, but after hearing the next sentence, her furrowed brows relaxed and she smiled, saying, "It's nothing, it just won't interfere with the preliminary rounds."

"That's good!"

"Oh, and when you go to check the security footage tomorrow, remember to call me along!"

"good!"

After Lin Yuan smiled and agreed, her previous wariness eased considerably. She glanced at the novel on the table and picked it up. "Were you reading when you knocked?" she asked.

Xu Feifei looked at the novel and nodded somewhat awkwardly.

"Is this the page?" Lin Yuan picked up the bookmark, looked at it, and her expression remained unchanged.

Seeing her reaction, Xu Feifei was a little puzzled and tentatively asked, "Lin Yuan, could you read the words on the bookmark to me?"

Lin Yuan glanced at her, then picked up the bookmark and read, "A School Library."

Is there anything else?

"What is it?" Lin Yuan asked, flipping the bookmark in confusion.

Upon seeing this, Xu Feifei was greatly shocked. Were she the only one who saw those three lines of text? Was this truly a hint to her? Was she about to become an NPC in this world?

No, absolutely not!

"Feifei?" Lin Yuan saw that Xu Feifei was in a daze and thought she was still scared about the knocking incident.

"Are you scared? I'll sleep in your living room tonight. Just call me if you need anything!"

Xu Feifei snapped out of her reverie and was deeply moved by Lin Yuan's words. But she quickly shook her head and said, "Sleeping in the living room is too tiring. Why don't you sleep with me?"

Lin Yuan's pupils dilated instantly, then she took a breath and said, "I'll sleep in the living room."

“Sleeping in the living room won’t do. The sofa isn’t as big as the bed. You’ll have to bend your legs to sleep, and you’ll definitely have a sore back when you get up tomorrow.”

Lin Yuan shook her head and said, "It's alright."

"It's early summer now, and there are so many mosquitoes, and they're really vicious. I can't sleep well at night," Xu Feifei continued to persuade her. Although she didn't know if there were mosquitoes at this prestigious school, mosquitoes were really annoying. They buzzed around while you were sleeping, and they even bit you. It was unbearable.

"Mosquitoes? I rarely see mosquitoes here, almost none. So don't worry," Lin Yuan said.

Seeing that she insisted on sleeping in the living room, Xu Feifei said, "Then you should go back to sleep. If anything happens, I'll call you."

“But I don’t trust you,” Lin Yuan said, frowning.

“I’m not a child, what’s there to worry about? If anything happens, just call the dorm supervisor or the police.”

“But in my eyes, you’re still a child,” Lin Yuan said, staring intently at her.

Xu Feifei laughed and said, "Kid? You're the same age as me, so you're a kid too."

Lin Yuan said unhappily, "This is different!"

"Same here. I'll give you two choices: first, sleep with me; second, go back to your own room. The choice is yours!"

Lin Yuan sighed, "Can't I compromise? I'll choose to sleep in the living room."

"No. Choose now!"

Lin Yuan lowered her head, her eyes downcast. A multitude of emotions flashed in her eyes, a struggle raging within her, a strange feeling about to burst forth.

Xu Feifei looked at Lin Yuan, quietly waiting for her answer.

She closed her eyes and took a slow, even breath. When she opened them again, her gaze was firm, and she had a definite answer.

"I want......"
