Hospital

Hospital

"Doctor, when will she wake up?"

In her sleep, Xu Feifei vaguely heard a woman asking anxious questions.

"Don't worry, Feifei should wake up today. After a check-up, she is fine."

The doctor's voice was calm and composed, trying to ease the man's anxiety.

"She's been asleep for three days and hasn't woken up yet, how can we not be anxious..." He became even more anxious as he spoke, and then let out a soft sigh.

"There's really no rush. Come out with me; I have something to tell you."

There were sounds of footsteps coming from the room, followed by the sound of the door closing, and then silence.

Xu Feifei struggled to open her eyes; the sunlight was blinding. She squinted, trying to shield her eyes from the sun with her hand. Moving her right hand caused a dull ache, and she could clearly feel footsteps sticking to her hand.

My gaze shifted from the ceiling to my right, and what I saw startled me. Was this someone getting an IV drip? I looked around; it seemed like a hotel, but the conversation I'd just overheard made it sound like a hospital.

Xu Feifei was clearly asleep in her dormitory, so how did she end up in this unfamiliar environment, with an IV drip? Her mind flashed back to the news about human trafficking and organ transplants that she had seen online, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of fear.

She struggled to her feet, but the sudden movement aggravated a sharp pain in the back of her head, causing her to gasp. She reached back to touch the back of her head with her left hand, feeling layers of gauze. A large lump had swelled up there; even a light touch caused sharp pain.

The door suddenly opened, and the person who opened it saw her sitting on the bed. Looking agitated, they quickly walked to the bedside, their eyes red-rimmed, and asked, "Feifei, how are you? Does your head still hurt?"

Xu Feifei looked at the woman in front of her. She had fair skin and dignified features. She looked to be in her thirties. She was wearing a light blue cheongsam-like long dress that showed off her figure beautifully. She had side-swept bangs, her hair was piled up in a bun at the back of her head, and a pearl clip was pinned to her ear.

She paused for a moment, "I feel okay, but my head hurts a little. How did I get here? Where is this place? And who are you?"

Xu Feifei's eyes were filled with confusion, and she felt extremely nervous and uneasy about this unfamiliar environment and people.

Upon hearing this, the woman burst into tears and asked incredulously, "Feifei, what's wrong? I'm your mother!"

Xu Feifei was taken aback and stared wide-eyed as she demanded, "Are you my mother?"

"Yes, Feifei, it's your mother! The doctor said you have a blood clot in the back of your head, which is pressing on a nerve and may have caused your amnesia. I never expected you..."

Gao Lan covered her mouth with her hand, turned her face away, and cried.

Xu Feifei was completely bewildered, but instantly became alert. Was this some new type of scam? Impersonating her mother in broad daylight—were they trying to sell her to Southeast Asia?

She cried for a while and then stopped. "We shouldn't force you to go abroad. Since you want to go to A High School with Nangong Ye, then go ahead. But you have to promise Mom you won't go out with those people, okay?"

"Nangong Ye?"

The name sounds familiar, like I've heard it somewhere before, but I just can't quite place it.

Gao Lan noticed her confusion. "Nangong Ye is your fiancé. You two were betrothed when you were little. He is the heir to the Nangong family and is currently studying at A Middle School, a private elite school in City A."

Nangong Ye?!

Xu Feifei finally remembered—wasn't that the name of the male lead in the Mary Sue drama she watched yesterday? Was she dreaming?

I raised my hand and slapped myself twice, then quickly closed my eyes, praying that when I opened them I would be back in my dorm.

"Feifei, what are you doing?"

Gao Lan exclaimed in surprise and quickly grabbed her hand. She hurriedly pressed the button to call for a doctor, urging the doctor to come quickly.

The room instantly descended into chaos, with doctors and nurses forming a circle around her. She was wheeled around undergoing various tests and being questioned relentlessly, until finally it was learned that no immediate danger had been detected, only temporary amnesia requiring rest.

After a flurry of activity, it had turned from daytime to night. Unfortunately, she was still in the same room. The various checks and questions forced her to accept the fact that she had transmigrated into the book.

If she'd known she'd transmigrated into a book, she should have stayed up all night reading the whole thing! What's the point of only reading the beginning and the end? She doesn't even know how the female supporting character's storyline is going; all she knows is that she gets kicked out by both the male and female leads in the end...

Xu Feifei was filled with remorse, and tears of grief and indignation flowed silently in her heart, gathering into a sea.

"Feifei, don't hurt yourself or be sad anymore. I arranged for someone to transfer you to A Middle School while you were unconscious, so you shouldn't play with your friends anymore."

Xu Feifei was pulled back to reality by her voice. What did she mean by saying several times not to play with those friends?

What happened to them?

"They don't care about you sincerely; they just want to get something out of you. What a bunch of ingrates."

Xu Feifei was secretly alarmed, "Ungrateful wretch?"

“That’s right. They asked you to help them resolve their family crisis, but they’re secretly plotting against you. So don’t associate with them anymore, understand?” Gao Lan repeated.

Xu Feifei had no recollection of these events and could only nod and say okay.

But then I thought, why am I sitting here quietly listening to my own suffering and regretting not finishing the novel? Shouldn't I be going back to the scene of the incident and thinking about how to get back to reality?

Thinking of this, he quickly asked, "Where did I have the accident? I want to go and see."

"You had an accident near Qiandao Lake. That won't do. You need to rest now. Running around right after waking up, is that appropriate?"

"But I really want to go and see!" Xu Feifei said coquettishly.

"No means no, Feifei. You should rest well and not worry your mother, okay?"

Xu Feifei wanted to say something more, but seeing the determined look in her eyes, she could only give up. The most important thing now was to recover quickly and return to the crime scene.

She tried to recall the plot of the novel, but couldn't remember anything. After all, she hadn't read it much, and when she did, she had only skimmed through it, so it was no wonder she couldn't remember anything.

Gao Lan asked with concern, "Why are you sighing? Are you hungry?"

Xu Feifei was caught daydreaming, so she quickly nodded to cover it up, saying, "Uh, a little."

"I brought some porridge with me when I came. It's in an insulated lunchbox. I'll give it to you."

Gao Lan got up and left the room. Xu Feifei watched her back, her thoughts wandering far away, her mind filled with how to get back to the real world.

"Here, eat up." Gao Lan came in and handed her the porridge, interrupting her thoughts once again.

Xu Feifei took the bowl from her hand, glanced at it, and saw it was plain porridge. She stirred it with a spoon, but it was still plain porridge.

Looking at the plain white porridge in her hand, a hint of disappointment flashed in her eyes. According to the Mary Sue plot, shouldn't there be all sorts of expensive ingredients? This doesn't even have the basic fish bones and bird's nest that are standard in novels. Thumbs down.

Gao Lan noticed the disappointment in her eyes and smiled, "You're still sick, so you can only drink plain porridge, which is light and good for your stomach."

"Uh...yes, light and easy on the stomach, and good for health."

Xu Feifei gave a wry smile, picked up the spoon, and took a bite. It was indeed plain porridge, living up to its reputation for being bland and tasteless—neither delicious nor bad. After finishing, she placed the bowl on the table.

"Are you still hungry? Would you like another bowl of porridge?"

"No, I'm full. I want to take a nap."

Xu Feifei slowly lay back down on the bed, covered herself with the blanket, and looked like she was going to sleep.

Upon seeing this, Gao Lan put away the tableware, silently left the ward, and closed the door so that she could rest well.

Hearing the door close, Xu Feifei opened her eyes and stared blankly at the ceiling.

Perhaps if I take a nap, I'll return to reality. Thinking of this, I quickly closed my eyes and forced myself to fall asleep.

When I opened my eyes again, it was already daytime. I was still in the hospital room, and it was bright outside the window, with birds chirping.

It seems that sleeping won't work; we can only go back to the scene of the incident to see if there are any other clues.

Perhaps jumping into the lake again will bring me back to reality?
