Lin Yuan
Seeing that she was only a short distance away from jumping into the lake, Xu Feifei was terrified and quickly stopped. Due to inertia, her body leaned forward, and she quickly swung her arms back to stop just in time at the lakeside.
Xu Feifei comforted herself softly, "Thank goodness. I almost fell."
After a while, once she calmed down, she cursed inwardly: "Damn it, am I an idiot?!"
So she went back to where she had started jumping into the lake, silently cheering herself on, and even shuffling her right foot backward. She counted in her head: Three, two, one, charge!
She was full of energy and high spirits, but halfway through the race, Xu Feifei stopped running forward.
She bit her lip, puzzled, and said, "Could it be that I'm still traumatized because I accidentally fell into the lake last time, making me afraid to jump?"
"No, let's try again."
Xu Feifei tried this several times, but still couldn't overcome her psychological problem and successfully jumped into the lake.
As the saying goes, "One should strike while the iron is hot, but the momentum will wane on the second attempt and be exhausted on the third." It seems that this saying still holds true today.
But hesitating like this won't work. She silently told herself that this was the very last time, "It's all or nothing," and Xu Feifei encouraged herself again and again.
Clutching the swimming ring tightly with both hands, eyes closed, and right foot shuffling backward in preparation for running, he was abruptly interrupted by a burst of laughter. Though the sound wasn't loud, it was clearly heard by the few people around.
Haha~
Xu Feifei opened her eyes and, following the sound, saw a boy standing not far away, laughing hysterically while holding his stomach.
The boy laughed for a while before finally meeting her gaze. He said with a smile, "Sorry, your jumping into the lake reminded me of bullfighting."
Xu Feifei's face turned red instantly upon hearing this. This was too embarrassing and awkward; she had been seen in such a state of embarrassment.
So she turned her face away, no longer looking at the boy, and prepared to start running again.
While running this time, all I could think about was that boy's mockery, and I wanted to get away from this place as quickly as possible and run away faster.
With a "plop," he successfully jumped into the lake.
Although it's springtime, the lake water is still icy cold. Xu Feifei was instantly chilled when she fell in, her eyes still tightly closed.
"Hey, are you alright?" came the boy's voice from the shore.
Xu Feifei slowly opened her eyes and found herself still in the lake, not back in reality. She felt utterly disappointed, staring blankly at her swimming ring, lost in thought.
"Hey, are you alright? Hurry up and come up." The boy called out with a hint of worry in his voice.
Xu Feifei finally heard it this time, and came to her senses. She slowly remembered that she couldn't swim. So, she was so scared that she clung tightly to her swimming ring with both hands, her legs flailing wildly in the water, and she drifted dizzily towards the shore.
She finally swam to the shore, only to find that the lake was some distance from the bank, requiring her to reach out and touch it, but she dared not let go of her swimming ring. She wanted to jump, but there was no jumping point in the water to allow her to reach the shore.
Several attempts to struggle were to no avail. Just then, a gust of cold wind blew by, chilling Xu Feifei to the bone.
She forced herself to come up with a solution, and just then, a hand reached out in front of her eyes.
Looking up at the hand in front of me, I saw the boy from before. He was squatting on the bank, his eyes showing worry, but upon closer inspection, I could also see a smile on his face.
The coldness in her body left her no time to think about these things. The chill that ran through her bones made her hold tightly to the hand that could only help her stay away from the icy lake water.
The boy may have underestimated Xu Feifei's weight and her eagerness to escape the cold. He lost his balance and fell forward, landing face down on the shore. Fortunately, he didn't fall into the lake.
"Are you alright? Are you okay?"
"It's okay, hold on tight."
The boy pulled her up with all his might, and she and her swimming ring made it safely ashore.
After successfully getting ashore, Xu Feifei breathed a sigh of relief and slumped on the swimming ring, looking at him and saying, "Thank you for your help, young hero, which allowed a young girl in the prime of her life to survive."
"A ridiculous girl?!" the boy teased her.
Then another gust of wind blew by, making Xu Feifei shiver all over. She squatted on the shore, hugging her legs with both hands, trying to preserve the last bit of warmth in her body.
"Yes, yes," she mumbled, unable to hear what he was saying.
The boy laughed again after hearing that.
Xu Feifei didn't know what he was laughing at, nor did she have time to think about it, because it was just too cold.
Head down, hands clasped together. Suddenly feeling a warmth behind her, she turned to look and saw a boy's clothes.
"Your clothes got dirty, but luckily they're not wet. Wear this on so you don't catch a cold."
Upon hearing this, Xu Feifei didn't stand on ceremony and hugged her clothes tightly.
"Let's go to the mall and buy some clean clothes. It's hard to get a taxi here." The boy bent down and held out his hand to her.
Xu Feifei looked at the hand in front of her and felt a little embarrassed. After all, she had never been in a relationship and hadn't had much contact with men. So she didn't hold his hand anymore, stood up, picked up her swimming ring, and stood beside him, saying, "Thank you."
The boy looked at his empty hands, a hint of disappointment flashing in his eyes. He awkwardly withdrew his hand and walked forward.
Xu Feifei followed the boy closely to the car. The boy opened the passenger door and gestured for her to get in. She was soaking wet and felt a little embarrassed looking at the empty car seat. She stood there blankly, staring at the boy helplessly.
"What's wrong?" the boy asked, puzzled.
"I'm soaking wet, I'm scared..." Xu Feifei whispered.
"Don't worry, it's nothing, sit down." He gently pushed her to sit in the passenger seat and leaned down to sit in front of her.
His warm breath sprayed onto her hands, strands of hair brushed against her arms, and the faint scent of his perfume lingered around her nose.
Xu Feifei tensed up and leaned back, but found she had nowhere to retreat. Helpless, she asked, "Why are you so close?"
After fumbling around for a while, he pressed the button, and the temperature inside the car slowly rose.
He straightened up, innocently raised his hands, and laughed, "So nervous? I was worried you'd get cold, so I turned on the heat."
After saying that, he took the swimming ring from her hand and put it in the trunk.
After getting in the car and fastening his seatbelt, he reminded Xu Feifei, "Fasten your seatbelt, we're about to depart."
After fastening her seatbelt, Xu Feifei looked towards the boy and thanked him again.
The boy smiled and joked, "I've saved you twice already, how are you going to repay me?"
"Twice? When was the other time?"
"Last week, why did you jump into the lake twice? And this time you even brought a swimming ring? Huh?"
"Oh?! Thank you so much! We're really destined to meet, haha, haha." Xu Feifei laughed awkwardly, trying to change the subject.
Then, she said in a serious tone, "If you ever need anything from me in the future, just let me know, and I will do my best to help you."
"Hmm, let me think about it."
"When I rescued you from Qiandao Lake, you called me a hero. So, following the hero's rescue storyline, you'll repay me with your body," the boy said seriously, turning to look at her and smiling.
Upon hearing this, Xu Feifei blushed and hurriedly replied to the boy, "This...this isn't ancient times, what are you talking about...besides, according to the laws of Z country, women can only get married at the age of twenty."
"So you mean we can only get married when we're twenty?!" the boy said with a smile, deliberately twisting her meaning.
"We'll talk about the future later." Xu Feifei politely declined to answer the question. She suddenly realized that she still didn't know his name, so she asked, "What's your name?"
"Lin Yuan".
"The 'lin' in 'forest'? The 'yuan' in 'water source'?"
“A caged bird longs for its old forest, and a fish in a pond yearns for its former deep pool. [1] Forest and deep pool.”
"Um?"
Xu Feifei was shocked when she heard his name, after all, she was living in a Mary Sue world. Weren't the male leads and supporting characters supposed to have surnames like Nangong, Murong, Duanmu, or Shangguan? Was he just some random passerby?
Xu Feifei looked at Lin Yuan, who was smiling, making his lips appear slightly thin. He was rather small and thin. He was very fair-skinned, but in a pale way.
Lost in thought, Lin Yuan noticed her unwavering gaze and turned to look at her. He grinned mischievously, "What, have I met your standards for a future husband?"
Xu Feifei blushed and quickly turned her head to look out the window, pretending to admire the scenery.
"It's only fair to reciprocate; you haven't told me your name yet."
“Xu Feifei, Fei is the Fei in the character for rain above and non-rain below.”
"Xu Feifei." Lin Yuan repeated it to himself several times, then smiled and said, "Okay, I'll remember. I hope that when you turn twenty, our relationship can develop even further."
Upon hearing this, Xu Feifei's face turned even redder than before, perhaps due to the heating or because the previous blush hadn't faded.
"Haha, then wait until I'm twenty before you come back!" Xu Feifei laughed awkwardly.
But secretly, she thought: By the time I'm twenty, I should no longer be in the world of Mary Sue.
"Um, the twenty-year agreement," Lin Yuan said with a slight smile.
