Chapter 48 The First Time He Hugs Her

Carrying the plastic bucket, Lu Zhili quickened his pace to return to the Lu family home.

An Wan carried the fishing net and walked quickly with her small feet. She didn't want the villagers to come to their senses and see her in person, lest they misunderstand something.

If someone connects her with the giant snake and eagle from earlier and thinks she's unlucky enough to have attracted them, that would be troublesome.

After all, the simultaneous appearance of a giant snake and a giant eagle in the village is a once-in-a-century supernatural event.

The Lu family's courtyard was dilapidated yet clean.

Lu Jiayan, sitting in a wheelchair, waited at the door of the house, his neck stretched out, his face full of worry, because there was a threshold that prevented him from going out.

When he woke up, he found the house quiet and called out several times but couldn't find Lu Zhili and An Wan.

He was terrified, thinking something had happened to them.

Fortunately, a note was found on the table next to them. Upon closer inspection, it was An Wan's handwriting. The note said that she and her fifth brother went out to find a small river to catch fish and shrimp.

Even though we know where she is.

But this worried him even more.

He used all his strength, fell countless times, and spent half an hour climbing into his wheelchair.

However, because the threshold of the gate was too high, they were unable to go out and look for them.

"Wanwan—"

Seeing the wooden gate to the courtyard open, Lu Jiayan excitedly called out her name, his previously dim eyes instantly shining brightly.

“Brother Jiayan—” An Wan was a little surprised to see him as soon as she opened the wooden door.

How did he manage to sit in a wheelchair without anyone's help when he had no strength in his legs?

Seeing the dust on his clothes, she realized that he might have fallen countless times while trying to climb into his wheelchair.

"Brother Jiayan, why are you doing this?" She rushed over with tears in her eyes and threw herself into his arms.

Her voice was choked with sobs.

On the day she was reborn, she was seriously injured, but no matter how much pain she was in, she never shed a tear.

Seeing the dust on his clothes and remembering how many times he had fallen, her heart felt as if it were being pierced by countless thin needles.

"Wanwan, it's good that you're back. I'm fine." Lu Jiayan knew she was crying when he heard her choked voice.

He raised his hands and hugged her tightly.

This was the first time he had ever hugged her.

She hugged him once last time, and he has been missing her embrace ever since.

It feels very familiar.

He liked it very much too.

"Fourth Brother, look! This is the fish and shrimp that Wanwan and I caught. There are so many, a whole bucket full, and there's even a big fish!"

Lu Zhili, who followed in later, didn't see them hugging; he just wanted to show off his spoils.

He wanted to prove that he was a useful person, not a stupid good-for-nothing who only knew how to eat and not work.

An Wan let go of his hand and turned to look at the smug Lu Zhili. "Fifth Brother, you're so vain. Hehehe—"

"Wanwan, did you encounter any danger when you went to the river to catch fish and shrimp?" Lu Jiayan was still worried about her when he saw that her clothes were a little dirty.

I was afraid they would fall into the river. Although the river was only a meter deep, the current was strong and could easily sweep them away.

They were even more worried about being bitten by venomous snakes, which would be fatal without antivenom.

"Brother Jiayan, don't worry, we're not in any danger." She didn't tell him about the boys who tried to bully them on their way home, nor did she tell him about the giant snake and eagle right now.

Let him relax and have some fun first.

Before Yunping and her husband return, she will probably hear others talking about the giant snake and eagle, and then she will explain the matter to the Lu family.

Lu Zhili brought over a plastic bucket, opened the lid, and showed it to Lu Jiayan.

"Fourth brother, look! So many fish and shrimp! We'll have meat to eat tonight!" Sure enough, following his sister meant he'd get meat.

"Yes, Zhili, you're great."

An Wan went inside first, took a stainless steel cup, poured herself a glass of warm water, and drank it to quench her thirst.

Lu Zhili drank another cup.

She pushed the wheelchair forcefully, and together with Lu Jiayan, they followed Lu Zhili into the kitchen.

He skillfully took an unused plastic basin, poured some well water into it, and then poured in a large bucket of fish and shrimp.

Because there wasn't enough water, the small fish, shrimp, and the big fish immediately started jumping around in the water, splashing water everywhere.
