Chapter 12 Who said there is no girl in our family?
Xingxing was awakened by the screams of the security guard outside the door.
"Where's the stuff I'm drying here on the windowsill?!"
When Mrs. Wei shouted, Li Chunhua from the first room, Bai Xiaofeng from the second room, along with Liu Ge'er and Gui Ge'er, hurried out of their rooms to see what was going on.
Li Chunhua said in a loud voice: "Mom, what's wrong?"
Mrs. Wei's brows were so wrinkled that they could pinch flies to death. She stood outside the window of the main house, searching the ground near the windowsill. When she saw Li Chunhua and Bai Xiaofeng coming out, her brows were wrinkled. She asked them, "Did you touch the things I hung on the windowsill?"
Li Chunhua was still thinking about what Mrs. Wei said, but Bai Xiaofeng immediately expressed her opinion: "Mom, you told us not to touch the things in the main house a long time ago, and I never dared to touch them."
Li Chunhua responded and nodded quickly: "Yes, yes, yes, I didn't dare to move either."
Both daughters-in-law said so, and Mrs. Wei looked at her two grandsons.
The two brothers from the first wife went into the mountains and haven't come back yet, leaving only Liu and Gui from the second wife.
Bai Xiaofeng immediately said, "Mom, these two people in my family just came back from digging wild vegetables, and I called them into the house to help me divide the lines, and they just came out."
Liu Ge'er and Gui Ge'er nodded and said, "Grandma, we didn't move anything."
Mrs. Wei frowned and said nothing.
Bai Xiaofeng asked very enthusiastically: "Mom, what is it? Was it blown away by the wind? Can we help you find it?"
Mrs. Wei glanced at Bai Xiaofeng unhappily.
She carefully pressed the tiles on the stem of the Burning Heart Grass!
Besides, there has been no wind today!
Li Chunhua was unwilling to be left behind and quickly nodded: "Yes, mother, what is it? Tell us and we will look for it at home."
Mrs. Wei was very annoyed. She just lowered her head and searched, not paying much attention to the two daughters-in-law.
There was a lot of noise in the yard outside. Su Rouer from the third room didn't want to go out, so she stood at the window sill and listened.
Last time she had a conflict with her mother-in-law, her husband couldn't help but scold her and Ju Ge'er after dinner, which made Su Rou'er feel a little upset. In the past few days, she avoided him as much as possible except for dinner.
There was quite a commotion in the yard at the moment. Su Rouer hesitated for a moment, thinking whether she should go out and deal with it.
As a result, when she turned around, she saw that Ju Ge'er, who was sitting on the kang and playing with the wooden man, had a wandering look in his eyes, and something was not right.
No one knows a child better than his mother. Su Rouer's heart skipped a beat and she asked tentatively, "Ju Ge'er, do you know about this?"
When asked by his mother, Ju Ge'er said hesitantly, "Mom, I saw a grass drying on grandma's windowsill today, so I threw it into the chicken coop."
Su Rouer felt relieved when she heard this. She didn't think it was anything serious. It was just a piece of grass. What was the big deal? If her son threw it away, he would just throw it away.
But then she thought, her mother-in-law made such a fuss about it, even if it was a blade of grass, it probably had its uses.
When Ju Ge'er saw that his mother didn't say anything, the child's natural sensitivity made him realize that this didn't seem to be a trivial matter.
He said hesitantly, "Mom, how about I go out and tell grandma?"
Su Rouer grabbed her son and said, "Don't go out. I know what's going on. Remember, don't touch anything on your grandma's windowsill. Got it?"
Ju Ge'er was still a little confused, so Su Rou'er tapped his forehead and urged him, "Mom is telling you, so just listen! Do you remember?"
Ju Ge'er pouted, brushed his mother's hand away, and said impatiently, "Okay, I got it!"
…
Mrs. Wei was getting irritated, and Li Chunhua and Bai Xiaofeng, the two daughters-in-law, didn't dare to say anything.
Liu Ge'er and Gui Ge'er looked at each other, not knowing what to do.
Xingxing climbed off the kang, sat on a small stool and put on her cloth shoes before leaving the room. The little girl was still a little sleepy and asked, "Grandma, what's wrong?"
Mrs. Wei sighed and touched Xingxing's little head: "Nothing, just the things that grandma hung on the windowsill are gone."
Su Rouer opened the curtain and pretended to have just heard something. She came to the yard with concern: "Mom, I heard that you lost something. How are you now?"
Mrs. Wei glanced at Su Rouer and said indifferently, "It's okay. We haven't found it yet."
Su Rouer walked to the window sill and exclaimed, "Ah!" as if she remembered something. She looked at Xingxing and said, "Could it be that Xingxing opened the window in the main room and something flew out of her mouth?"
This is indeed a reasonable guess. Li Chunhua and Bai Xiaofeng couldn't help but secretly look at Wei Po's expression.
Mrs. Wei frowned.
Xingxing was a little confused. She shook her head and quietly defended herself: "But Xingxing didn't open the window."
Su Rouer immediately said, "Xingxing, children should not lie. Look how anxious grandma is! Grandma loves you so much, you can't lie to grandma. The window is open, so let me tell you, you didn't do it on purpose."
Xingxing was anxious now: "Xingxing didn't lie. Xingxing and her third and fourth brothers went to sleep right after they came back from digging wild vegetables. They didn't open the window!"
Su Rouer chuckled. "Just now I heard from my second sister-in-law that Liu and Gui were called to the house to divide the lines as soon as they came back. That means you were in the main house. Who else could have opened the window if not you? You little liar."
Xingxing was so anxious that she didn't know what to do. Tears came out of her eyes: "Xingxing, Xingxing really didn't do that." She looked at Grandma Wei with tears in her eyes, "Grandma, Xingxing is not a little liar."
Grandma Wei was so distressed that she hugged Xingxing and comforted her: "Grandma, I believe Xingxing is fine, Xingxing, don't cry."
She turned around and scolded Su Rouer: "How can you be a mother like you? You don't know anything about the matter, but you are accusing the child first and putting a hat on him!"
Su Rouer curled her lips: "But she is the only one in the main house."
Mrs. Wei was so annoyed that she yelled, "Just shut up!"
Su Rouer said "Oh" and said nothing.
At this moment, there was a commotion outside the Yu family's wooden gate, and someone shouted, "Uncle Yu, Aunt Wei, are you home?"
Mrs. Wei said loudly, "I'm at home. The door is open, just come in."
Not long after, Luo's father came in with a chicken in his hand.
A few villagers who were watching the excitement followed Luo's father and started to make a noise: "Why did you bring such a valuable gift to the Yu family? If we didn't know that the Yu family was full of boys, we would have suspected that you were coming to propose marriage to your cow!"
Mrs. Wei instinctively retorted: "Who said we don't have a girl?" She held Xingxing in her arms and said, "This is our little girl!"
Xingxing was not even four years old yet, so it was impossible for the Luo family to come and propose marriage. But Mrs. Wei just didn't want others to say in front of Xingxing that the Yu family had no female children.
Their Yu family has the best little girl in the world!
The news that the Yu family had adopted a little girl during this famine year had spread throughout Nantuo Village two days ago.
Many people don't say anything on the surface, but they are laughing at their family members behind their backs, wondering if they are sick. They can hardly support their own family, yet they are still making trouble in their home!
