Chapter 29: The Wandering Monk

Chapter 29: The Wandering Monk

Mrs. Wei held Xingxing in her arms and buried her head in her arms. She ignored everything else and looked left and right vigilantly, fearing that another evil-hearted person would attack her at this time.

Li Li was sweating profusely. This almost turned into a fight. If someone really died, wouldn't the Yu family and the Xiang family be at war to the death?

Huai Ge'er was still holding the pig cage containing Xiang's adulterer. The Xiang family members became anxious again: "Put it down quickly, or you'll be in trouble if it falls!"

Mrs. Wei sneered and said in a cold voice: "Oh? My eldest grandson only lifted it so high, and you are afraid that he will fall! When Yu Liuzi fell off the ladder, why didn't you say it was too high?!"

In addition to the Yu and Xiang families, there were also many villagers who were watching the excitement. They also sighed when they heard the words. It was really pitiful that Yu fell from a high place and his life was worse than death! How could the Xiang family be so embarrassed!

But the Xiang family felt that their family members were wronged. The grasshopper-faced old man in Xingxing's eyes snorted coldly: "...It's all because of Pu's seduction! If you want to soak the pig cage, hurry up and soak Pu alone! My eldest nephew was just seduced by Pu, and he didn't kill anyone. You should release him quickly! Stop nagging!"

This arrogant look made Yu's people very angry again.

Even though Pu had a rag stuffed in her mouth, she was still so frightened after hearing these words that she burst into tears and trembled all over.

The spokesperson for the Yu family was an elder in the clan. Old Yu had to call him the second brother. He was also very tough. When facing the Xiang family, he had only one sentence: "The adulterer must die, and the adulterer must die too!"

The two sides were in a stalemate.

Mrs. Wei really didn't want Xingxing to be dragged into this anymore, so she simply carried Xingxing out of the crowd.

Mrs. Wei knew the attitude of the Yu family members. It was not because they felt sorry for Yu Liuzi, although that was part of the reason, but more importantly, the Yu family could not lose face.

Mrs. Wei carried Xingxing to Yu Liuzi's house next door.

The only thing that stood out in the small house was the thin wooden coffin in the yard. The family had saved up their money to buy this coffin, and it was probably the most valuable thing in the house.

But Xingxing still felt scared and didn't want to go into the courtyard. She clung to the door frame and whispered, "Grandma, Xingxing, can I not go in?"

Mrs. Wei thought for a moment and put Xingxing at the door: "Xingxing, wait for grandma here. Don't run around. Stay away from those people in the sun-drying field next to you. Got it?"

She was going to give Yu Liuzi some water.

Xing Xing nodded vigorously.

Mrs. Wei went into the courtyard by herself.

Xingxing squatted at the door, pulled out a long dogtail grass beside her, and started playing with the ants.

"Amitābha, hello, little donor."

A gentle voice sounded, Xingxing raised her head and saw a man with a bald head and wearing strange gray clothes.

The man is quite old, and looks even older than a bull.

Xingxing was young and it was the first time she saw someone with a bald head. She didn’t know that such people were called monks.

The man had a kind face and a friendly look, which made people feel close to him at first sight. Xingxing had a good impression of him and tilted her head: "What is a little donor? Are you calling me Xingxing?"

The man smiled and said, "It turned out to be the donor Xing Xing... I was passing by here and happened to use a hexagram to predict the way forward. However, I saw strange phenomena on the hexagram, such as a red cloud covering the sky. So I followed the instructions in the hexagram and came to take a look. It turned out that the donor Xing Xing was full of good fortune, so this strange phenomenon occurred."

Xingxing was a little confused and tilted her head again.

What on earth is this strange uncle talking about?

What kind of hexagram, what kind of red cloud, what kind of strange phenomenon.

She totally doesn't understand!

Seeing that Xingxing was young and ignorant, the man just smiled and asked Xingxing for water again: "Little donor, can I ask for a bowl of water from you?"

Xingxing is a kind-hearted person. She thought that it was already pitiful for the man to have no hair, but wouldn’t he be even more pitiful if he couldn’t even drink water?

She stood up and said bravely, "Wait a minute, Xingxing go call grandma."

Even though Xingxing was afraid of the inexplicable cold feeling in the yard, she still endured it, ran into the yard, and called out to Mrs. Wei, saying that there was an uncle outside who wanted to ask for a drink of water.

Xingxing was a young child and didn't know people, but as soon as Mrs. Wei came out and saw the man, she could tell that the man in front of her was probably a wandering monk.

She quickly saluted: "Hello, Master."

The wandering monk saluted with one hand to Mrs. Wei: "Greetings, lady donor."

He didn't say a word to Mrs. Wei about Xingxing's good fortune.

Mrs. Wei was very enthusiastic, so she invited the wandering monk into the courtyard and poured him a bowl of water.

After the wandering monk drank, he saw a coffin in the yard and asked, "Did someone in the family die?"

Grandma Wei sighed, "It was a nephew of my clan who was harmed by someone and fell from a great height... He hasn't closed his eyes yet, but I estimate he will die in a few days."

The wandering monk glanced at Xing Xing, then thought for a moment and said, "I wonder if I can go see the injured donor?"

Although Mrs. Wei lived in the isolated Nantuo Village, she had heard from her peddler father that there were many talented people in this world.

Although Mrs. Wei said that she didn't think the wandering monk could save Yu Luzi's life, she did not dare to neglect him and quickly led the wandering monk into the house.

After seeing Yu Luzi, the wandering monk said that he could still be saved. Then he stuffed a pill into Yu Luzi's mouth and fed him some water.

After doing all this, the wandering monk said to the old woman Wei: "Don't worry, my lady, this medicine for injuries and bruises is just for his condition. If you can survive tonight, your life will be safe."

Mrs. Wei was so excited that she didn't know what to say. She thanked him repeatedly. She felt all over his body and finally found a few copper plates with some embarrassment.

The wandering monk extended his hand to the old lady Wei and smiled, "Don't pay, lady. I am able to come here today, and I have a connection with the owner of this courtyard. Just consider it as a way to repay the kindness of giving me water just now."

After saying this, the wandering monk walked out of the room.

Ever since Mrs. Wei and the wandering monk entered the house, Xingxing hid at the gate of the courtyard again, leaning on the door frame to look inside.

She saw the wandering monk coming out of the courtyard and waved his hand enthusiastically, "Uncle, are you leaving?"

The wandering monk smiled and nodded, took out a string of Buddhist beads from his arms and gave it to Xingxing.

Xing Xing, however, put her hands behind her back and shook her head: "Xing Xing can't just ask for other people's things."

The wandering monk smiled gently and said, "Little donor, take it. This pearl will end our fate today."

As he spoke, he waved his hand, and the Buddhist beads fell into Xingxing's little hand behind her back.

Xing Xing was startled and took her little hands out from behind her back. She saw the Buddhist beads lying in her hands behind her back and was so shocked that she was speechless.

When she looked up again, the wandering monk had already gone far away and she could not catch up with him.

Xing Xing pursed her lips and had no choice but to accept the Buddhist beads.

The Buddhist beads were not big, but each one was round and shone with a warm and restrained light in the sunlight.

Xingxing took the Buddhist beads and walked into the yard, wanting to show them to her grandmother.

But before she took a few steps, she uttered a strange "Huh?"

The strange and cold feeling in the courtyard disappeared!

Xingxing was young and puzzled, so she could only put the matter aside for the time being and ran into the house, wanting her grandmother to help her take a look at the Buddhist beads.
