Chapter 49 Caught a big fish!
Liu Ge'er and Gui Ge'er took Xing Xing back to the creek.
Luo Yiniu and his friends were turning over rocks and catching crabs by the stream.
Luo Yiniu glanced at them and saw that they were all fine, so he knew that nothing was wrong.
He looked away.
It was Brother Liu who said loudly, "Thank you for coming to tell me the news just now!"
Luo Qiniu felt somewhat uncomfortable and ignored Liu Ge'er.
Liu and Gui took Xingxing to a shady spot and let her sit on a big rock in the shade. The two brothers rolled up their pants, took off their shoes, and walked into the stream barefoot, preparing to catch fish in the shallower part of the stream.
Xingxing clenched her little hands and watched anxiously as Liu Ge'er slowly approached a fish.
But the fish was very alert. Liu Ge'er bent his waist and approached it tiptoe. The fish then wagged its tail and cleverly slipped away.
Liu Ge'er stood up, feeling helpless.
These fish probably swam over from the upper reaches of the Mao River.
A few years ago, there was a severe drought and the Mao River dried up a lot. Many people went to the Mao River to fish. The fish that are still alive are very smart.
At the slightest sign of trouble, they run away as fast as they can.
Liu Ge'er and Gui Ge'er spent nearly half an hour fishing by the creek, but they didn't catch a single grain.
Fortunately, Liu and Gui were good-tempered. Even though they didn't find any fish, they were not in a hurry and just treated it as taking their sister out for fun.
Especially Xing Xing who kept encouraging them:
"Come on, third and fourth brothers! It's okay, the fish just ran too fast! We will definitely catch the next one!"
With the sister's sweet encouragement, the two of them were so energetic and didn't show any sign of being discouraged.
On the other hand, over at Luo Yiniu's side, after turning over rocks for quite some time, they only found a few crabs the size of a fingernail. The teenagers were all very frustrated.
Seeing Liu Ge'er and Gui Ge'er catching crabs vigorously upstream not far away, they sighed and whispered to Luo Yiniu, "Brother Yiniu, it must be those two Yu family boys who are causing trouble upstream and scared away all our crabs!"
Luo Qianniu said nothing and turned over another stone.
There was moss growing under the stones, but nothing else.
His brows were furrowed.
The teenagers who were with him gave him a bad idea: "Brother Yiniu, why don't we go to the Yu family and chase those two guys away!"
Luo Qiniu was unhappy: "They catch their own people, and we catch our own people. What does it matter?"
The other teenagers understood that Luo Yiniu did not want to cause trouble for the two boys from the Yu family.
When Luo Qianniu went to turn over the stones again, a few teenagers whispered in each other's ears:
"Are you stupid? Have you forgotten that our brother Yinniu was bitten by a snake some time ago? It was those people from the Yu family who saved our brother Yinniu's life?"
"Oh yeah, I almost forgot about this! I was saying that we haven't had a fight with those guys from the Yu family for a while."
"Ahem, we are usually the ones who get beaten, right?"
"Shut up! They saved our brother, the cowherd, so we should let them go!"
"That's right! As the saying goes, if someone saves your life, you should repay them with your own body, right?"
Luo Yiniu was turning over stones without even turning his head: "I'm reminding you. I can hear you all. I see that you are all itchy! If you have the energy, why don't you come over and turn over a few more stones?"
A few teenagers came over with laughter and continued to search for crabs.
…
Liu Ge'er and Gui Ge'er spent most of the hour fishing but got nothing. Finally, Xing Xing found a bighead carp hiding in a narrow channel in the creek. It seemed that it had crashed into the narrow channel while trying to escape, and its head was stuck in the cracks between the rocks in the creek, unable to move.
Liu Ge'er and Gui Ge'er caught the bighead carp with their eyes shining!
This fish was not small. Liu Ge'er held it tightly in his arms. Not only did his clothes get wet, but he almost couldn't hold it!
"We have fish to eat tonight!"
Gui Ge'er's saliva was about to flow out.
"No, you forgot, my aunt has taken my elder and second brothers back to her parents' home. Let's wait for them to come back." Liu Ge'er said as he held the struggling fish in his hands with great effort.
"That's right!" Gui Ge'er clapped his hands, "It's okay, we can just keep the fish at home and eat it in two days!"
"Eat fish! Eat fish in a few days!" Xing Xing was very excited. She carefully stretched out her little hand and touched the smooth body of the bighead carp. She exclaimed in surprise, and then giggled, "It's so smooth!"
Liu Ge'er and Gui Ge'er couldn't help but laugh.
The three children of the Yu family were laughing and talking happily here. Luo Yiniu and his friends were watching not far away, and they were extremely jealous.
After turning over rocks for half a day, they caught a few crabs as big as fingernails. They were fine as toys, but if they were roasted and eaten, they wouldn't even be enough to fill the gaps between their teeth.
Look at those three little kids from the Yu family, they actually caught such a big fish!
So——big!
The teenagers are all jealous.
Someone suggested: "How about we grab the fish?"
Luo Qiniu immediately glared at him.
The man was very obedient and laughed to smooth things over: "Just kidding, I was just joking..."
Luo Yiniu suddenly said to himself, "I heard from my parents that people in our village say that Xingxing...that little girl, is a lucky star. How could those brats in the Yu family have such good luck? It must be Xingxing who brought them good luck!"
The more he spoke, the more certain he became. "Yes, that must be the case!"
As he spoke, Luo Qiniu's heart was excited and suddenly an idea popped into his mind. He strode forward and walked in front of Liu Ge'er and the others.
"Hey!" Luo Yiniu shouted.
Liu Ge'er and Gui Ge'er looked at Luo Qiniu warily, fearing that he would steal the fish.
Xing Xing, on the other hand, asked Luo Yiniu with a smile, "Brother Luo, what's the matter?"
At the words "Brother Luo", Luo Yiniu's eyes widened!
His tongue was almost tied!
It took Luo Yiniu a long time to recover from the shock and he coughed, "Well, I heard you're lucky. Can you help me pick up a stone? I want to catch a crab."
Liu Ge'er frowned when he heard this.
Gui Ge'er was small but quick-witted: "Don't blame my sister Xing Xing for having bad luck when you can't catch her, okay?"
Luo Yiniu glared and said, "Am I that kind of person?!"
Brother Liu and Brother Gui sneered at the same time.
——You are!
Xingxing was afraid that her brother would quarrel with this brother from the Luo family again, so she hurried out to stop them: "Xingxing, it's okay, Xingxing can help brother Luo find it!"
Luo Qiniu looked at Liu Ge'er and Gui Ge'er with some pride.
Liu Ge'er and Gui Ge'er were speechless. What was Luo Qiniu so proud of?
Xing Xing didn't know how to turn over the stones, but she looked at Luo Yiniu's expectant eyes and tried to keep her eyes open. She looked at the stones by the stream for a long time and finally pointed at one hesitantly: "Brother Luo, look at this?"
