"You are threatening, Trillium."
"And you are threatening the future King of the Lycans. Do you think the council would still protect you once they knew you are directly working with witches for their experiments?"
"I already mentioned this to your council! And I am going to say it again. Trillium is not supporting those experiments."
"Trillium hid the fact that the witches are experimenting on humans. They secretly created hybrids, got their base robbed, and the information stolen. Isn’t that what happened?" Matthew asked.
"You— "
"You see... " Matthew interrupted him. "I think you are underestimating the Lycans. Was it because we don’t usually involve ourselves with politics?"
Jude just clenched his teeth. Matthew knew that the man was trying to stop himself from kneeling down and worshiping Matthew.
"You see... there is a reason why Lycans are considered King. Just because Trillium has big influence doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want especially inside a Lycan’s territory." He continued. "Other shifters would have died... by now. The pressure that a future king emits is different from the other Lycans."
"You— "
Large veins appeared on Jude’s temples. His face turned red. He was clearly fighting back.
But how could he fight against the aura of the future King?
"You must have heard the rumors," Matthew said. "My blood is purer than the current King’s." Of course, that rumor wasn’t really true. But some people liked to exaggerate things.
"Now..." Matthew suddenly lifted his aura. Almost immediately, Jude let out a loud gasp. He started breathing normally, his face slowly returned to its previous color. "Threatening a Lycan in his own territory is a dangerous move, Caro. Just think of this as a lesson. For when we meet again."
"Ava..."
"Ava... is mine," Matthew said. "After what Trillium did to her, did you really expect her to come back? How could someone be this... stupid?"
"Ava needs to come with me. You don’t understand."
"Ah, look at that. Five minutes is up. You may leave now. My secretary will escort you out of the property."
"Mr. Graydon..." Jude fixed his tie. "You don’t understand. I — Trillium just wanted to know where she was a few days ago."
"She’s with me. I can vouch for that."
"What?"
"She’s always with me."
The confidence that Jude had earlier vanished. And Matthew could see that in the man’s face.
"There was an explosion and we have images of her... going in."
"I was with her that night. In fact, I was with her every night Caro. So you can ask me instead."
"Why don’t you just let me talk to her? Just a few minutes. I’m sure she wouldn’t mind."
"But I mind."
"You— "
"It’s in the middle of the night. You barge in here and wanted to steal a valued employee and now you just confess that you wanted to interrogate her. Did you really think I would let you talk to her?"
"Look... it is pertinent..."
"Then you talk to me. I already told you. I was with her. Every damn night." Matthew emphasized the words ’every night’ just to make it clear that Ava was his. And his alone.
Trillium could screw themselves.
He isn’t going to give Ava back!
"A few nights ago, I know you were aware of the explosion. That airport was owned by Lycans." Jude said. "We have this..." Jude took a photo from his jacket pocket and handed it to Matthew. "It was Ava."
"This is a blurry image of a woman wearing black."
"I know Ava! We were trained together. We practice together. I know her body!"
The sound of the photo being shredded to pieces by an angry Matthew made Jude silent.
"What did you say?"
"I — I mean..." Jude gulped. He could see Matthew’s eyes turning golden again. "I meant... we spar. We fight. It’s reasonable that I would know what her back looked like!"
"I already said. Ava was with me that night." Matthew’s eyes were burning and Jude could feel his gaze scald his skin. Jude gulped. He was almost sure that the man would try to kill him if he made another mistake.
"Look... that explosion is caused by a bomb and the covens wanted us to investigate."
"Ah... so this is about those witches."
"The initial investigation said that the explosion could harm any witch. I knew you were already aware of that." Jude said. This case was special simply because all covens in the north of America had been bothering Trillium about this matter. The explosion was a surprise to everyone. "The Lycans must have investigated the scene."
"We didn’t. Or at least, I didn’t."
Jude frowned at Matthew’s obvious lie! How could the Lycans not investigate the explosion of their own airport? Did these people think he was dumb?
"The bomb... is considered dangerous. The witches are concerned."
"So... the witches aren’t that concerned about the hybrids. But now that they found something that could harm them, they suddenly wanted to investigate the matter." Matthew chuckled. "Ridiculous."
"Mr. Graydon..."
"I am done talking to you, Mr. Caro. You may leave. Mr. Calida... make sure he leaves the premises...safely."
"Safely?"
"Oh... we have dogs that bite, Mr. Caro. I just wanted to make sure that you will get out of this property alive." With that, Matthew got up and left Jude alone.
Matthew might have won that argument, but he knew he had lost the game. It seems that this was the de Cene family’s goal all along. They wanted to frame him or Ava. They wanted to drag Trillium and the covens and use them to pressure Matthew to come back.
"Fucking Lycans," Matthew uttered. He went upstairs, but before he could reach their room, he stopped walking. He stared at Ava, who was leaning on the wall next to the door. She’s wearing a robe — a loose robe. freeweɓnovel-cøm
"What a quick nap," Matthew said.
"I want to go and see the de Cene family," Ava said.
"Hm?"
"I want to meet them."
Matthew narrowed at her. Then he smiled. "You know what? It has been so long since I met their patriarch, too."
Ava started smiling.
"Then?"
"Let me prepare the private jet."
"No need," Ava said. "We are going now."
"Like this?" Matthew eyed her... rather indecent clothing. Then he frowned."I can’t let you wear that."
