"Chinese and Japanese?" Ava lifted an eyebrow when she heard Marko’s words. "I — "
"Mr. Graydon was still In another meeting, but I just wanted to be as thorough as possible. Are you familiar with the five families of the East?"
"Heard of them." The five families of the West and the five families of the East were considered organized criminal organizations of shifters. They ruled over the black market, had their territories, and also protected shifters. Of course, they had their own dirty deeds. "Not exactly good shifters."
"They wanted to see you. They claimed the explosion might be a threat to all shifters."
"That’s crazy. What do they want to prove by seeing me?" Matthew had asked Ava to stay inside the mansion for a few more weeks. Right now, not many people knew that Ava was still alive.
"We... we have suspicions that the other nobles want to use the incident to try and corner Mr. Graydon and pressure him to come home."
Ava pursed her lips in response. She looked at Shaman Gaas, who was enjoying his tea. "I know them. I met Mr. Natsukawa once."
"He knows... I used to work for Trillium." Ava added.
Marko nodded. "Well then... I will inform Mr. Graydon about this. Please have a wonderful time, Miss Woods."
Ava nodded and watched as Marko left the room.
"The other Lycans are dragging the other shifter families just to have their King." Shaman Gaas uttered. "And Matthew would never go to that place without you."
"He already said he isn’t going."
"They cannot force him and they know that. So now... they are forcing you."
Ava nodded.
"They know Matthew likes you and you are his only weakness. It was within our calculations that this would happen. Those old beasts would surely drag you into their matter. I can not imagine what would happen if they were to know you are his... mate."
Ava let out another sigh.
"A war is brewing... Ava." Shaman Gaas looked outside, his face grim. "And you have to prepare yourself for what’s to come."
Ava snorted. "Are you scared?"
"Of a war?" Shaman Gaas scoffed. "Do you know how many wars... I have witnessed?"
Ava said nothing.
"I have witnessed countless wars. I was alive when each of the four presidents of the United States were assassinated. I was already an adult when Archduke Franz Ferdinand was shot by Princip, a shifter. A young one at that. I was standing close, watching the whole thing unravel in front of me. If I had known it would start the first world war, I would have stopped the shifter from killing the heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire."
"Abraham Lincoln was killed in 1865 by Booth, right?"
"Booth? John Wilkes Booth?" Shaman Gaas chuckled. "Did you really think that a mere actor could create such a conspiracy?"
"Well — " She doesn’t know.
"Hah.... Booth was human. The one who did it was... a shifter."
"Another shifter?"
"Shifters were used all over history to kill people. They were faster and stronger. They could jump into buildings. Do you think the people from a hundred years ago could chase a shifter?"
"Of course not!"
"Who do you think led them to Bin Laden? They told you it was a dog, right?"
Shaman Gaas shook his head.
"It was a werewolf. And werewolves can be considered dogs, too." Shaman Gaas said.
Ava nodded. She had heard about the werewolves. Hell, everyone at Trillium heard about it. This was because it was Trillium who assigned one of their agents to work with Keepers- the human organization that knew about the secrets of witches and shifters.
"Conspiracies... Conspiracies..." It’s all one big conspiracy.
"Just listen to Matthew. Stay inside the mansion for now. Babaylan and I will train you."
"Do you think Matthew will decide to go back?"
"Matthew? I don’t know about him. But I have met the other noble Lycans. They — They can be very persistent."
"And by persistent, you mean..."
"They will never stop until they get what they want. They would go as low as possible just to have Matthew back there."
Ava sighed. What would happen if these people were met with the knowledge that their future king was mated to a witch?
"I don’t wanna talk about it," she said. In response, the old man snorted.
"So, the plane that you were in... I have never heard of it before. But then again, there are different types of planes, dimensions, and realms. But fret not, I will do some research about it. For now, I want you to focus on moving into another room."
"Teleporting?"
"While sleeping," he said.
"You mean... while dreaming?"
"Yes. Do it while you are dream walking."
"Wait... " Ava frowned. "You mean... you want me to teleport my physical body while I was dream walking?"
"Precisely."
"How the hell... Is that even possible? I always thought ..."
"Whatever you heard about dream walkers... I want you to forget that and focus on what I want you to do."
Ava bit her lower lip.
"Alright. I will do that. What about— "
"Miss Woods?" The conversation was interrupted by Simon. One of the butlers who didn’t really like Ava. "Miss Baba called for you. It’s about Mr. Woods?"
"Phil? What about Phil?" Ava immediately got up and followed Simon towards the underground facility where they had kept Phil, Baby Gabi, and now the comatose Marylis.
"What happened?" Ava asked. She looked toward Phil from the two-way mirror. Phil was on the other side of the room and he was... "What is happening here?" Ava asked, her heart started pounding against her chest. It was as if something was stuck in her throat as she continued watching her brother... eat raw chicken.
"He is shifting," Baba answered curtly. She too was staring at Phil. "After three nights and Phil was shifting."
"But his body..."
"Is not changing?" Baba said.
"I believe... he is a failure."
"A what?"
"Someone tried to do some experiment on him... and failed." Shaman Gaas uttered. He was standing behind the two women with a dark look on his face. "Son of a bitch," he said.
