"Change my mind?" The King asked before Matthew could leave the room. "Are you saying that you are going to confront the noble houses?"
"Those are your words, father."
The King snorted. "I am not going to give you permission to hurt the noble house."
Matthew said nothing. Instead, he walked out of the room.
Seeing this, Ava was tempted to follow Matthew but for some reason, she was also interested to see what the King would do after that conversation.
"Show yourself."
Ava almost pissed her pants when she heard the King say those words.
What the hell?
"Your Majesty..." An old woman wearing a yellow long gown appeared next to the King. Ava’s eyes widened. She didn’t sense the woman’s presence earlier.
"How was it?"
"The potion should be done by the end of the day. I am sure that the young lord is going to love it."
"And the woman?"
"We have chosen the best."
"Good. It is the right time for him to have a child."
Ava shivered. What the hell was that?
Have a child?
Was it Matthew?
"And the witch?"
"We couldn’t find her after what happened with Trillium. We believed that the crown prince hid her because she was wounded or... Trillium captured her."
"So, you are telling me that Matthew might be here to find someone that could possibly heal her?"
"Yes. Our people said that he had been having secret conversations with Babaylan and the woman had been spending a lot of time in the library lately."
"In the ancient library?"
"Yes."
"Then they must be looking for some sort of cure." The King snorted before he returned to his seat. "Banned her."
"From the ancient library?"
"From all libraries. She had no right to be here."
"I understand."
"And make sure Matthew will successfully sleep with a woman this time. I need him to become the next King."
"Yes, my lord."
"Do you have anything else to say?"
"We found traces of that person..."
The King’s expression immediately changed.
"Where?"
"Mourning Pits."
"Then what are you waiting for? Send some people and check it out!"
"I already did my lord. And I have received news that... he could be inside the Pits."
"That— "
"It would be very hard to go down there my lord."
"I know."
The King sighed.
"For now, I want you to send people in the Mourning Pits. Don’t let them go to the pits. I want you to station them outside. If that person is inside the pits, then he should stay there forever. But if he goes out... " the King narrowed his eyes. "Kill him on the spot."
Ava wanted to listen more but she felt as if something was trying to push her out of the room. The next thing she knew, she was already back inside the inn. She frowned when she noticed her wet clothes. She was sweating and didn’t even notice it.
Strangely enough, she also felt tired— exhausted.
She yawn before she decided to change her clothes.
Maybe going out there is more taxing than she originally thought. This was her first time so it was understandable that she would feel very tired.
After a while, she lie down on the bed and stared at the ceiling. It looked like Matthew will face a lot of problems in the next coming days. She could only hope that he would be able to handle it. On his own.
....
Ava and the rest left the inn early morning riding a carriage. This time, the coachman informed them that it would only take them about half a day to reach Damon’s Villa. It was located on the outskirts of a town called; Agnusi.
The coachman told them that Damon was their lord and that every three months, Damon would leave the Pits to go outside. Then he would come back after two months. Damon would then spend the rest of the year inside the pits.
Damon was actually a well-known hunter inside The Pits.
Though Ava couldn’t help but wonder why Damon would go back to Mourning Pits in those two months.
Just as the coachman said, they reached Damon’s territory after five hours.
"My Lord... I am Bastione the butler. Please drink this." The man handed Damon a chalice and he accepted it without asking a question. To Ava’s surprise, Damon drank whatever it was that was on the chalice.
She wondered if it was something that would somehow restore Damon’s memories. After drinking from the chalice, Damon asked his people to lead Ava and the rest to their rooms while he went to his study to check the current situation inside his territory.
While Ava was about to settle down inside her luxurious room, two women arrived and introduce themselves as her new servants.
One was named Rora and the other was named Nora. Twins.
How cute. Ava smiled as she watched one of them brew some tea for her.
"So, your lord was born here?" Ava had pieced it together just from their conversation on the carriage. She quickly figured out that Damon and Alex whose name was actually Alexandra were born in this place. This is the reason why Damon was able to become a lord inside.
She also knew that this place isn’t like the place that the Shaman told her about. The weather is just like Earth’s, even the plants. The sun and the moon exist in this place as well. In fact, the place looked like an old Europe without technology and electricity.
But the Shaman’s words about the Arena were real.
In the past few days, Ava had been thinking about a lot of things.
There are a lot of things about The Pits that confused her. For instance, who told the Shaman about the Arena? There was no way to bring out any information about this place. So how did he know about the Arena?
Does this mean there is a way to get out of there... with their memories intact?
