"Twenty-four hours is up," Josef smiled as he walked out of his carriage. He walked towards the monarch’s villa where everyone was already waiting for him. This time, they invited a few of the monarch’s concubines, including the prince’s mother.
Obviously, this was simply done to make it look formal.
The current monarch knew his son needed to die. He also knew that Damon was only framing Alexandra to get what he wanted.
"My lord, Miss Eve and Damon just arrived. Are we going to wait for them?" Johnson appeared behind him.
"Of course," Josef said. He was the type of person who would never wait for anyone — even if it was the current monarch. But he is going to wait for this woman.
"You look like you had a wonderful sleep," Damon’s voice reached his ears before he could even turn around. "Did you enjoy hurting the innocent, my lord?" Damon asked.
"What innocent?" Josef smiled. Of course, he didn’t look at Damon. His eyes went straight to Ava. "You look lovely Eve."
’Thanks." Ava answered coldly. The moment she said this, a different glint appeared in Josef’s eyes.
Something is different around Ava. It felt like...
He faked a smile.
Maybe it was all just in his head?
For some reason, he could feel something dark and suffocating swirling around the woman. Something is wrong, he thought as he continued observing her.
But then again, he could understand Ava’s mood.
He knew she found nothing.
It must have been very devastating for someone like her to fail.
That’s right. His woman isn’t the type of woman that is going to submit just because of what happened. She is going to fight for her freedom.
He offered a bemused smile.
"Shall we?" he asked.
"Of course," Damon responded and soon, the three of them walked towards a parlor room where the current monarch and his wives sat. The room had a circular interior. It was large enough for a large table and twenty luxurious chairs around it. On the top of the table was a circular roof made of a glass life material that would provide them with light when it is daytime and the view of the stars when it is nighttime.
Since it was daytime, the glass-like roof provided them with an angelic type of light from the sun. It looked beautiful.
But this isn’t enough to change the current atmosphere inside the room.
Even though there was music and some soft touches of laughter and conversation inside the parlor room, a woman sitting next to Monarch was silently weeping. She was wearing black, her eyes were red and swollen.
Her face was the complete opposite of the beautiful sun outside... Meanwhile, the monarch was talking to another woman who was sitting on his lap.
But this current environment immediately changed when Josef walked in.
The man that looked like a ball of oil immediately beamed the moment he saw Josef. The woman on his lap got down and stood behind him.
"Duke.... Please take your seat," the man spoke, his somewhat childish voice finally attracted some reaction from Ava.
Seeing this, Josef smirked.
By now, Ava must have realized that something is wrong with this current set-up.
In the world of the strong, how come someone like this man became the ruler?
Isn’t this the world for the strong?
Then the current Monarch should be strong... right?
"Refreshments..." The Monarch spoke. As women wearing colorful but skimpy dresses walked in with the refreshments, the monarch added, "Today, we are here to witness Lord Damon and his subordinate find out the culprit of my son’s death." Even though he was talking about his dead son, there was no other emotion on the Monarch’s face.
He didn’t look upset or sad.
In fact, the monarch looked like he was talking about some other simple matters towards his friend. He had a slight smile on his face and a clever glint on his fox-like eyes.
"Shall we begin?" the Monarch said. freёweɓnovel_com
"Yes, your majesty. "Duke Josef Asad said. "We all know how the Prince died after he was stabbed. But there were some details of his case that we haven’t released to the masses. Today, I am going to call Miss Eve, one of Lord Damon’s subordinates, to tell us everything that she discovered in the past few hours. Eve?"
Ava got up and looked at everyone.
"The Prince didn’t just die because of his stab wound," Ava said without wasting any time.
Of course, this only made Josef smile with glee.
He expected her to be feisty, but he never thought she would go directly to the point.
Isn’t that... amusing? Isn’t that fun?
The woman was made for him.
She was made to be his.
"Tell us more," Duke Josef added. And Ava didn’t hesitate.
She looked at the woman, who was still silently crying. Then she said, "He was poisoned."
"Poison?" Duke Josef arched an eyebrow. In fact, Ava was right. The Prince has been poisoned once or twice when he was still alive. "Are you saying that the Prince died because of the poison?"
"Yes," Ava said.
"You are wrong Miss Eve." One of the Duke’s chimed in. "The Prince died because of blood loss. He was stabbed to death and the only one in the room was Alexandra, from Lord Damon’s household."
"No. The Prince— "
"Did you even see his body? How did you come up with this nonsense?" Another Duke said. "I knew that this is just a waste of time. How could a woman... a weak one come up with an answer in less than twenty-four hours?"
"We already know the facts. The Prince died because he was stabbed. Moreover, we all know that the Prince had been poisoned in the past. I don’t understand, Lord Damon. Why did you have to waste our time like this?" One of the concubines immediately said, disgust apparent in her eyes.
"Lord Damon, please explain yourself. What is this woman talking about?" the monarch said. "How could the Prince die because of poison when we all knew that he died of stabbing? Are you trying to tell us he was already dead before the stabbing occurred?"
