Chapter 231: Trickeries

Ava woke up groggy, her eyes were swollen, her body was hurting. It felt like a truck hit her while she was sleeping!

She squeezed her eyes shut and thought about her dream the other night. Now that her head was clear, she felt confused about that dream. But she had no time to think about it.

Matthew was in danger and every bone in her body could feel it.

She got up and took a quick bath before she walked out of her door. She needed to reach the top sixty if she wanted to leave this place and she needed to do that before her potions ran out.

These were the only things that is preventing her from dying from using too much of her magic over and over again.

"Miss Scythe."

"Huh?" Ava looked at the knight who was standing outside of her door. This was the same knight that had been guiding her to each floor. Of course, there was a fee involved. Apparently, the only way for the locals to live in this place is because of the people who wanted to climb up to the tower.

"Everyone is calling you Scythe. They said you came here to conquer the tower."

"That’s a weird name." Ava started walking. "Lead me to the next floor."

"Are you going to finish another five floors today?"

Ava looked at the man. He was wearing a knight’s uniform that looked too heavy for his stature. He might be tall but the man’s face was skinny.

"What’s with all this question?" she asked.

"Some people started betting if you would be able to reach the fiftieth floor today."

"Oh?" Ava lifted an eyebrow. "You can bet too?"

"Of course."

"You didn’t tell me about this before."

"You didn’t ask and I couldn’t tell you when all you wanted to do was climb faster to the tower."

"Does this mean... you also offer other services?"

The man gave her a weird gaze. Before he could answer her, Ava added, "I meant information."

"Oh," the man turned his head away, blushing. "Of course we do."

"Information about the people occupying each floor?"

"Yes, we do."

"That’s good."

"If you want to buy."

"No need."

Ava followed the man towards the next floor and just like in the previous fights she beat the monster in just a few seconds. This time, she used the same spell that she used the other day.

Malal Vertis.

It was a quick method, way quicker than the other ones that she used before. Plus, the magick needed to perform such a spell is lesser than the other spells. It was pretty convenient.

And just like that, she climbed higher and higher until she finally reached the fifty-first tower.

"Are you sure you wanted to fight without information or... even rest?" the knight asked.

"Are you seriously concerned about me? Or you are scared that you would lose the bet?"

"I— " the knight turned his head away.

"I am going to fight. There is no point in delaying any further."

...

Alexandra squinted at the monster in front of her.

It looked like a lizard or perhaps a crocodile, except it had really long legs and could run really fast. It took her more than an hour to finally kill it. She kicked its body and stared at the knight that was walking towards her way.

"Fifth floor done. Shall we proceed to the next?" the knight asked.

"What about the tasked that I asked you to do?"

"That woman? I believe I found her. However, she is already using a different name."

"A different name?"

"Yes. Scythe."

"A Scythe?" Alex lifted an eyebrow disgust flashed in her eyes. "How the hell did she come up with that?"

"It wasn’t her," the knight said as they walked out of the tower. "The people called her that. She had been killing monsters nonstop since she arrived. She could easily kill them. Like a Scythe."

"Do you know what floor she’s in now?"

"Last I heard she’s already on the fiftieth floor."

"Fifty? But— but she’s been here for what? Five? Six days?"

"Seven days, she took a two-day break."

Alex frowned.

"Are you telling me that she’s been killing ten monsters every fucking day?"

"Yes."

"That— "

"And all the monsters she killed had been obliterated. It’s either they burst into smithereens or their insides were destroyed. It was extremely brutal. There’s no way those monsters could survive."

Alex scowled. Her mood only worsen. It is critical that she found Eve before she could go home. She needed to tell the woman that Josef took Damon, hostage. He is going to kill Damon if she won’t willingly come back to the Pits.

"But how could she even tell Ava these things when... she was already on those floors?"

"Is there a way to go to those floors? I want to watch her fight."

"Oh... I believe you can watch her using the— "

"Stadium?"

"Yes."

"The place where they place bets?"

"Yes."

"So, I can’t go to those floors?"

"You cannot. Unless of course, the floor owner would invite you."

Alex cursed inwardly as she followed behind the knight.

"Is there a way to get an invite?" she asked.

The knight stared at her. "That woman is stronger than you."

Alex glared at the knight.

"If you wanted to defeat her you need to use trickeries. Might I suggest— "

The thing is, she didn’t want to defeat her. She wanted to find her and tell her about Damon.

That damn woman!

Alex’s blood started boiling from anger. She had been working with Josef for years. The man never once treated her like how he treated Ava!

Just what is with that woman?

Everyone had been treating her like she was special!

Now, Josef sent her inside this place just to get Ava. She gritted her teeth in irritation.

"You know what?" Alex suddenly looked at the knight. "I am going to take your offer. What trickery are you talking about?" A sinister glint appeared in her eyes. Even in this world, accidents happen all the time.
