Tonight was supposed to be a night full of celebration. Tomorrow, Drigo would finally become the official crown prince. Then the future King of this Kingdom.
Everything about the event was ready. From the food and drinks to the color of the socks that Drigo would wear. Queen Luna prepared everything to make this event as grand as possible. She made sure that everything about this event is nothing short of perfection.
But to Queen Luna Margery, tonight is akin to a cursed night. Her heart had been hammering against her chest as she woke up this morning. Since she married the King, this was the first time that she was actually this... nervous. And she couldn’t help herself.
Her mind kept telling her that something wrong is about to happen.
It was a mother’s instinct.
And something about her instinct gave her an ominous feeling. She bit her beautiful scarlet red lips as she stared at her reflection. Her hair had been in a perfect bun, her eyeshadows were perfectly applied to emphasize the color of her eyes. Her dress, a long evening gown, embroidered with sparkling jewels, matched the color of her lips.
Everything about her appearance was perfect.
But something else is bothering her.
"Mother..." Drigo’s voice caught her attention. She turned and looked at her son who was wearing the same red suit with embellishment that is only fit for the future crown prince.
"Why are you here?" she asked. "What about your wives?"
As someone who grew up thinking that he would become the next King, Drigo had more than five wives and nine children. His official consort came from one of the noble family de Altra. "Where’s Janine?" Queen Luna asked.
"She’s waiting for us downstairs. The dinner is about to start. Why are you still here? Everyone has been waiting for you."
"I just— "
"Mother..." Drigo hid a smile on his handsome face. "Calm down. Nothing will happen tonight. Who would dare hurt me in the presence of the strongest witches and Lycans in this world?"
"We can never be too careful."
"Mother, I understand your concern but this night? This isn’t just my night. This is OUR night. Tomorrow, I will become the official crown prince and you will become the mother of the next King."
His words made Queen Luna smile.
"You really know your way with words." With this, Queen Luna hook her arm around her son’s arm as he escorted her out of her room. Then the two of them made their way into the hall where the current small family banquet will be held. Tonight, all the princes and princesses who managed to survive were going to join them along with their official witches.
"Your brothers and sisters?" Queen Luna asked.
"Already here."
"Your father?"
"He will come as long as he heard the news that you are already here."
"I understand, " Queen Luna tried to shake the ominous thought inside her head.
"Enjoy the night mother," Drigo said. "I don’t want you to think about something else tonight. I know you have... worked so hard for this, for tomorrow. Tonight, we are going to celebrate."
Queen Luna smiled. Still, she couldn’t help but wonder if her instinct could be wrong this time.
Not long after, the two of them arrived at a large hall decorated. Its black and red motif seemed to give the feeling of both sophistication and power. The tables and chairs were arranged just like a banquet. Each table was with four chairs. The table had a U-shaped arrangement, giving a lot of space for everyone to dance in the middle of the banquet. At the back was a circular bar where guests could talk and mingle while standing up.
The chandelier looked like diamonds in the sky as its crystals glittered against the dimly lit space.
"Queen Luna Margery Bennet Graydon and Prince Drigo Bennet Graydon are entering the hall!" A voice echoed. "Stand up and pay respects to the future King and the current Queen!"
Margery and Drigo walked inside the hall with smiles on their faces. Drigo escorted his mother towards the seat on the stage for the King and Queen. The two highest royals are also set to eat their dinner on that stage.
Meanwhile, Drigo is going to join his brother and sisters at a large table. Then their wives and husbands are going to occupy the next table while the witches are going to seat at the back part just next to the bar.
This arrangement clearly showed the hierarchy of this Kingdom.
Since the King is not yet inside the hall, everyone started talking amongst themselves at the bar. Of course, Ava stayed in her seat as no one actually wanted to talk to her. Not even her fellow witches wanted to give her their attention. And Ava completely understands this.
So, she walked toward the bar. Sadly, she accidentally hit another witch who was bringing some drinks to the Royals.
"You careless..." the witch hissed at her. "Get out of my way," the witch said as she used magick to easily clean the carpeted floor.
"Sorry... I didn’t mean — "
"Save it. Get out of my way! No one wants you here!"
Ava frowned but did what she was told. She lowered her gaze and just went back to her seat. It was pretty obvious that most witches hated her because of Matthew. What would happen if they knew that she was actually... Matthew’s mate?
Ava could only smile inwardly.
Since no one wanted to talk to her, she just stayed at her table alone as she observed the Royal Family. Matthew told her that some of his siblings are already dead but he didn’t actually tell her that all of his siblings were good-looking!
Ava couldn’t help but appreciate their silver eyes, tall and lean stature, and most importantly, the invisible intimidating aura that they seemed to have!
"King Josiah Rowland Graydon has graced us with his presence." A voice interrupted Ava’s thoughts. "We pay respect to the King, the Guardian of the Kingdom. The Light that vanquishes evil and maintains peace. We pay our respects to the King of the Lycans!"
However, before the King could even reach his chair, Drigo started coughing.
Almost immediately, the Queen paled.
Lycans... don’t get cough and colds!
Hearing Drigo let out a series of coughs, the Queen’s face turned even paler.
"Drigo?" she called out in a panicky hiss.
