Chapter 55: A Mistake

"You cannot control your magick." Matthew said the moment he let her down from his arms. She didn’t respond. Instead she looked around as she tried to steady herself on the uneven ground.

Matthew’s speed just then had far surpassed her expectations. She never knew that a shifter could actually move like that in a human form.

"Why did you do that?" she asked. "I could have killed Amore’s son!"

"No you couldn’t."

"What?"

"You are too angry."

"What are you talking about?" she asked.

"Let’s go."

"Matthew... explain yourself. Why did you stop me?"

He stared at her, lips pursed.

"Answer me!"

"Let’s leave this place and..."

"Was it because you are scared it would damage your reputation?" she asked. Earlier, her anger had been uncontrollable— almost uncontrollable.

"What?"

"Why the hell did you stop me Matthew?!"

*BOOM!*

The loud thunder echoed as the snow started to fall around them.

"Ava, control yourself."

"I want to know why you took me out of that place!"

Again, she didn’t receive any answers. Her irritation turned into anger, then into rage.

"I knew it was a mistake."

"What?" Matthew asked.

She turned around but Matthew was quick to hold her arm, stopping her.

"What did you say?"

"I said... this is a mistake! Everything is!"

She met his eyes.

"Say it again!" he hissed.

Anger smoldered in her eyes. She was so angry, she wanted to scream, and break something. Her magick was running rampant, the smell of something burning was starting to spread in the area.

She knew. Matthew was right. She was losing control of her magick.

"Let me go," she shook his hand off.

"So you could go back in there?"

"What do you want me to do, Matthew?" she asked.

"Calm the hell down and leave this place."

"Those people just tried to destroy my family! Don’t you see it? They already killed my mother and now, they are framing my brother! Do you really think I would let something like that happen?"

"Then what?" he tightened his hand around her arm.

"What?"

"What’s going to happen after you kill Romeo?"

She opened her mouth then closed it, saying nothing.

"Who cares?"

"I do! Ava! I care."

She glared at him. She knew he was telling the truth.

"Aren’t you just scared that my problems would affect you if I kill them??" she asked. Matthew was a royalty. Of course, an accident like this would affect him.

"Is that what you think of me?"

When she saw the anger in his eyes, she snorted.

"Am I wrong?" Again, she tried to remove his hand but failed. "Let me go."

Instead of letting her go, he pulled her towards him. Her breasts crushed into his hard chest, and a gasp escaped her lungs.

"You are not leaving!" he said, his voice low and dangerous. The air around him turned colder, intimidating.

Her chest rose and fell.

"And you think you can control me?" she mocked him. "How cute!"

He clenched his jaw.

"This is the last time that I am saying this Matthew... let me go!"

He narrowed his eyes then leaned closer, hovering above her with his taller and broader frame. Then he whispered.

"Make me."

"I don’t want to hurt you."

"Is that so?" a smirk appeared on his lips.

"Fucking let go, Matthew!"

"So you could fucking kill yourself?" he asked.

She didn’t deny that. She couldn’t.

But she was prepared to face the consequences of her actions.

"Then what do you want me to do?" she asked. "Watch that man, leave? Just let the person who killed my mother, cut her up like a damn pig, and left her body in the forest for the animals to devour, leave?"

*BOOM!*

"Ava, calm down! I am going to help you get your revenge but not now."

"You don’t have a say when or where I want to get my revenge Matthew!" she grunted when she couldn’t move her arm. "I said, let me go!"

"I said... make me!" he hissed, his eyes boring into her. "I am not letting you go back! I am not going to let you die!"

Eyes narrowed, she flicked her other hand. Magick burst inside her.

"You don’t want to fight me, Matthew. Not when I am angry."

He snorted at that.

"I would never hurt you Ava. And I would never let other people hurt you either."

"Hurt me?"

Magick soon surrounded them. She saw Matthew’s face turning ugly as the snow, wind and dirt started to swirl.

"Do you really think someone in that house can hurt me?"

"You are not thinking straight, Ava."

"Am I not?"

"Yes, you’re not! You are acting like a damn child, throwing tantrums because you didn’t get what you fucking wanted!"

Anger raced inside her.

She smirked as the wind grew stronger, defying gravity, defying logic. Bound to destroy everything on its pathway, the wind whooshed and whistled around them. It roared like an angry storm ready to ruin its enemies.

"Even if... you burn me alive. I would never let you go there and die!"

Her heart suddenly hitched when she saw a small cut on Matthew’s neck.

Blood trickled from his wound.

She lifted her eyes and only saw determination in his golden slits.

"Let me go... or you will hurt yourself," she warned.

Another debri pierced his arm. This time, he flinched but his grip didn’t loosen.

"Fuck Matthew! Let me go!" What the hell?

"I already told you! I would never let you hurt yourself." He leaned closer, so close she could feel his eyelashes on her cheek. "You can’t defeat me Ava. Not when we are this close."

It was a challenge.

One that she couldn’t ignore. But given the proximity, she would surely end up wounded if the giant in front of him chose to fight back.

She glared at him and realized more cuts appeared on his chest, neck and even on his face.

The blood on his neck and arm was enough to weaken the fire inside her. Her anger plummeted at the sight of more cuts appearing on his body, soaking his clothes in blood and dying them red.

The anger that wanted to maim him seconds ago, dissipated.

The wind slowly crumbled into nothing.

"I want to punch you," she stated.

The smirk on his face turned smug. He knew he was winning. "Feel free to."

"Fucking annoying..."

He placed his hand on the at her back. He held her tightly.

"This annoying Lycan wants to fuck you right here, right now." He tilted his head. "A payment... for the wounds."

Ava gulped. If she was thinking straight, she would have pushed him away. But she wasn’t.

So, she said, "Then... fuck me."
