Ava smirked as she walked out of Graydon Pharma. Her throat was burning, and her body felt numb for some weird reason.
But she wanted to leave the company premises.
She already got what she needed and something more.
She smiled and got into her car then she drove towards her house. Almost immediately, she noticed another car following her.
Isn’t it time that she takes care of this business?
It didn’t take her too long to arrive at her destination. She slid out of her car and stood next to it as she waited for the people in the car who followed her, to at least introduce their names.
"What took you so long?" Ava asked the three people who showed up. They must have parked the car somewhere and walked towards the house. This only means one thing.
They didn’t want to be seen.
"You don’t have guards." The man who spoke was wearing sunglasses. Considering that it was already starting to get dark, he looked totally out of place. "I was informed this would be a difficult job."
"Job?" Ava grinned. "Was it the twins?"
"You think we are dumb?" the woman spoke. She had dazzling red hair that immediately attracted Ava’s attention. Her accent was especially thick. It sounded like she was Russian? Or someone from Poland?
Ava snorted. Unlike the other two men, the woman was a witch.
"You already know that we were following you," the last one said. Among the three, he was the only one who looked totally normal. He wasn’t that tall yet something about his presence commanded authority. It looked like the man was looking down on Ava.
No. He wasn’t just looking down on Ava. He felt a thick disgust towards her.
Though, Ava found that weird. Considering this was the first time that she had met this man.
"And yet you actually led us here." The man continued. "Brave. Yet stupid." The leader said. He sounded American. However, the way he said stupid reminded Ava of the woman’s accent.
"I am not interested in fighting." Ava was still smiling. She had been looking for someone to spar with but real life problems had disturbed her plans. "I could make you some tea. If you want to talk. I think it’s best to negotiate."
"She’s looking down on us," the woman said.
"She thinks we’re mercenary." The man in shades snorted.
Hearing this, Ava sighed. "I really don’t want to fight. I just want to talk."
"Bullshit!"
The leader smiled at Ava. He must have sensed it. Ava’s magick that had already started to form on her fingertips. They tingled and felt like pulses of electricity. In short, they are a little painful.
"Let’s get this over with. I hate boring jobs like this." The woman said. "Ugh! I hate arrogant witches who think they have seen the world!"
Just after the woman said, the two men next to her dashed towards Ava. They growled and soon, their eyes turned yellowish until they finally turned into slits.
"Weretigers!" Ava gasped and jumped up. The wind gathered underneath her feet as she moved towards the woman who was now casting a spell.
Weretigers were very strong shifters. However, unlike werewolves, they don’t turn into tigers during the full moon. They are strong and agile and are considered good assassins because they are really fast and could easily hide, climb and jump through trees.
Ava had never met one before.
But the yellowish slit that she saw would never lie.
The man wearing shades who somehow got rid of his shades was the first one who reached Ava. He brandished his claws, aiming for her jugular. Ava smirked. She sidestepped and then jumped in the air.
On the outside, it looked like Ava was floating, flying. But she was actually gliding. She could, of course, fly but that would be too taxing considering she’s fighting against three strong individuals.
That... and she also wanted to test something.
"What are you?" the woman must have noticed something as she exclaimed. "I didn’t see you cast ..." her eyes widened. Then she uttered. "Kill her! She’s dangerous!" Just as she finished speaking, a fireball appeared in her hand.
She sent it towards Ava’s way but it missed and actually hit Ava’s car!
BOOM!
"I was still paying for that car, idiot!" Ava gritted her teeth. She wanted to play around and try to see how strong she had become. But... this... the woman just blew up her car! "That’s it..." she said and used a stronger magick. The smell of burning flesh surrounded her as she squinted at the witch. As if sensing the powerful magick coming her way, the witch screamed and created a protective shield around her.
While this happened, the other two also tried to attack Ava but she easily pushed them away with just a flick of her finger. And when they tried to approach her again, they suddenly stopped moving.
"What— "the leader looked surprised when the ice started to gather on his feet. "What did just..."
"An elemental!" the man wearing shades hissed. He tried to break the ice that now reached his knees but it was futile.
"Hmmm... should I just kill you?" Ava said. "No. Let’s play some more."
She snapped her hand and the three people lost their consciousness in seconds.
*Clap*
*Clap*
*Clap*
Ava turned around and stared at the handsome man walking her way.
A Lycan.
And someone that she had met once before. The man who tried to hurt Matthew. Kieran Graydon.
The woman walking next to the Lycan was another witch that she had already met before. Erenes.
The old witch was smiling at her as if their last meeting had been pleasant.
"You knew we were watching." Kieran had a smirk on his face. "So you decided to show off."
Ava rolled her eyes in response. What a narcissistic fellow. She never liked this man’s face.
It wasn’t because he isn’t as good-looking as Matthew. The man was actually handsome— too handsome he almost looked feminine. His features were pretty.
Without his large body, she would think he is a she.
"Did you send them?" Ava asked. She felt them earlier but she actually thought it was the twins. Well, she thought that the twins sent these people to take care of her.
"It was nothing but a small test, Miss Woods. I hope you don’t mind."
"So I can’t kill them?"
"How ruthless can you be?" Kieran said.
"They are enemies and you are supposed to kill your enemies." She rested her hand on her waist and lifted an eyebrow at the Royal. "They could have killed me."
"If they did. It would have only meant that you are not worthy."
"Worthy?"
"To be my brother’s witch."
Ava shrugged. She stared at Erenes who was observing her. The fight already started when she felt their presence earlier so she was quite confident that Erenes didn’t see her do magick without casting it.
"I know our last meeting was rather... unpleasant." Kieran took a step towards her. He was wearing all black clothes. From his boots to his coats. The man looked casual yet sophisticated. It actually reminded her of Matthew. And she started to ask herself if all the Royals dressed like they were going on a fashion show.
What would happen if she became Matthew’s Queen?
Hold on.
What was she thinking?
She frowned, unimpressed by her own thoughts.
"I am here to apologize."
"So, you apologize by... sending people to kill me." Sarcasm coated Ava’s voice. Matthew had already warned her that the Lycans would probably bother her a lot once they knew that she was his witch. And she had assured him that she wouldn’t do something that could earn everyone’s ire. But honestly? This was slowly starting to irritate her.
Patience, she mumbled inwardly. Her mate was the future King of the Lycans.
This is just the start of the chaos that this mating thing would bring them.
"Again, it was a test."
"Test my ass!" Ava rolled her eyes.
"Hah! Did she just say that word in front of me?" Kieran looked at Erenes and the older woman scoffed in response.
"Well, I don’t appreciate you giving tests like this without my permission Mr. Graydon. Just so you know, I could have killed your people."
"Hmmm."Kieran nodded. "You are just like what Almeru described. Fearless. Even if I am a Royal, you didn’t change your ways. Was it because you grew up an orphan? Or was it because... you lack the training that the other witches went through?"
"It was both," Ava answered almost immediately.
"That was supposed to be an insult."
"And insult? It was the truth, Mr. Graydon. Once you say the truth, it is no longer an insult." Ava just smiled. "Now, you will leave me alone before I decide to slaughter your people."
"It seems that you aren’t even aware of the rules," Erenes spoke in a low condescending voice. "Did Matthew tell you anything about becoming his witch?"
Ava snorted.
"First and foremost. That is none of your business, old woman." Ava smiled when she saw Erenes’s pale face. "Second and last. That is Matthew’s business. Matthew and I’s business. So you can take your posh accent back to wherever you came from and fuck yourselves. The next time you test me. I am going to kill everyone and burn their bodies to ash and blow it in your faces."
