Chapter 2 She's Unperturbed by the Arranged Marriage

Thinking back on the miserable days when Jiang Shuwan had dominated and humiliated her, Jiang Yao gritted her teeth in hatred.

She was eager to see Jiang Shuwan's expression after the change.

But why didn't she show any sign of panic?

The sky was clear and the wind was gentle, just like any other day.

She still has the mood to laugh?

She could actually laugh!

!!! !!! !

If Jiang Yao hadn't witnessed Jiang Shuwan stumble into the prince's arms, she would have thought her scheme had failed.

"Did your trip to offer incense go smoothly, big sister?" she asked tentatively.

"That went smoothly!" Jiang Shuwan looked at her with a smile.

Jiang Yao continued, unwilling to give up, "Xiangguo Temple is crowded with people, and many young gentlemen are going to admire the flowers today. Please don't let them offend your elder sister."

As she spoke, she observed Jiang Shuwan's expression, not missing a single flaw.

Then, she saw Jiang Shuwan's expression change slightly.

“Young master…” she said slowly, word by word.

"Big sister saw it?" Jiang Yao asked excitedly.

"I didn't see him." Jiang Shuwan shook her head, looking completely innocent. "I went to offer incense at the main hall and came back. I was enjoying the scenery along the way when I returned to the manor. I didn't see any unfamiliar young men. How could you have seen them?"

Jiang Yao was taken aback.

She was the one asking Jiang Shuwan, so how did it become Jiang Shuwan asking her?

"Second sister, it's not that I'm criticizing you, but you're a girl who's not even engaged yet, so why are you calling him 'young master' all the time? People who don't know better might think you're desperate to get married."

"Who's desperate to get married? Me..."

"Don't try to explain yourself. I know you had feelings for the young master of Yongchang, but you were abandoned and ridiculed by many people. However, you can't give up on yourself and completely disregard rules and etiquette. Although our Jiang family is not one of those high-ranking families, we are still a family of integrity and cannot tolerate any recklessness."

"Don't you agree, Second Sister?"

Jiang Yao almost broke down.

In her previous life, her aunt looked down on her and forced her husband, Pei Lingyu, to marry a woman from a prominent family, causing her to be ridiculed by everyone.

She schemed against Prince Wenyuan in order to save face, but ended up being tormented every day after marrying into the Marquis's mansion.

It can be said that most of her tragic life in her previous life was caused by her aunt.

She had always thought that the aunt was a snob and a witch.

Unexpectedly, Jiang Shuwan treated her so well after marrying into the family.

It's absolutely infuriating!

Jiang Yao gritted her teeth.

Jiang Shuwan glanced at her and knew what she was thinking.

Yes, yes, yes.

Mrs. Bo is a good mother-in-law.

That's wonderful!

I'll give you this wonderful mother-in-law.

The Earl's mansion is a blessed place; you should go and enjoy your good fortune there.

I can't be bothered to even glance at this idiot.

Jiang Shuwan walked right past her and went back to her own courtyard.

She didn't even need to deal with Jiang Yao; once she married into the Earl's mansion, Jiang Yao would have her share of trouble.

Seeing that she didn't even glance at her, Jiang Yao sulked again.

She stormed back with her maids and servants, and as soon as she entered the house, her birth mother, Song, started arguing with her.

"My dear daughter, what's going on? Didn't you marry into the Marquis's mansion?"

Why did you change your mind at the last minute?

"And what's more, you're really crazy! How dare you scheme against your older sister? If she finds out, do you think we'll get away with this?"

"Mother, why are you so afraid of Jiang Shuwan! You have no backbone at all—"

The mother and daughter started arguing.

Meanwhile, Jiang Shuwan returned to her own courtyard and lay down again.

She was a lazy bum in her past life, even though she knew she would soon be married into the Marquis's mansion.

She's not married yet, so she should just lie down for now.

There's a saying...

Effort doesn't guarantee success, but lying down is definitely comfortable.

It was cold at night, so we ate old duck soup at home.

The maid in charge of delivering meals in the kitchen was a young girl who had only been in the household for a short time and was currently only eleven years old.

He was shorter than Jiang Shuwan's chest, with dry, yellow hair and a thin, bony frame.

Winter has arrived, yet I'm still wearing a thin autumn shirt.

A cold wind blew, and I huddled up in a ball because of the cold.

Her family used to be farmers, but they suffered a disaster and the whole family was sold into slavery to the Jiang family.

Before she entered the mansion, winter clothes had already been distributed.

She was just a maid doing odd jobs, so the mistress couldn't possibly do them separately.

She had no money to make winter clothes, so she had to endure the cold.

The little maid was thin and small, carrying a pot of old duck soup, moving like a gust of wind.

It swayed and floated, which was frightening.

Upon seeing her from afar, Jiang Shuwan called to the old woman guarding the courtyard gate to help her.

The old woman took the piping hot soup base and placed it on the charcoal stove. Behind her, a group of older maids, dressed much more elegantly than the younger maids, brought in various vegetables.

There are fewer kinds of vegetables in winter, mostly just cabbage, radish, and green onion.

It's washed very clean, looks fresh and lovely.

The maids delivered the dishes in a rush and then left in a rush, each one faster than a rabbit.

The servants are all whispering among themselves that the young lady is a stingy person.

The masters in other courtyards, whether they were wealthy or concerned with appearances, would often reward these servants.

Only the young lady was not rewarded with a single copper coin.

However, Jiang Shuwan held a very high position in the mansion, so they didn't dare to be sarcastic or unfriendly. They delivered the food and ran away.

The second young lady was generous and had money in her hands, so they all rushed to serve her.

Jiang Shuwan didn't care about this.

The atmosphere in the Jiang family was corrupt, with servants fawning over the powerful and belittling the weak.

He fawned over Song Shi and Jiang Yao, but ignored all other masters.

Several times, Jiang Shuwan saw the aunt next door trying to order them around, and after saying all the nice things, she still had to give them extra money.

If you don't reward them with money, the servants will become sarcastic and either mess up their jobs or drag their feet.
