Yan Jie greeted each of the people who came in generously.
Seeing their gazes intentionally or unintentionally lingering on the bouquet of flowers in her arms, Jiang Hexi hurriedly began to explain:
"Mom, Yan Jie, on behalf of several guests, came to visit me with flowers."
"Thank you all for your kindness."
Ms. Zhou smiled and stepped forward to greet Yan Jie, saying, "If you hadn't taken her to the clinic for an injection overnight last time, she wouldn't have recovered so quickly. Even the attending physician said you handled it promptly. Don't stand there, go and talk to Auntie on the sofa next door."
Yan Jie respectfully followed Ms. Zhou to the next living room and chatted with the family.
Jiang Wenze looked at the large bouquet of glaring red roses and gave a cold laugh.
Jiang Hexi said guiltily, "Brother, it's not what you think."
Jiang Wenjing took the bouquet of flowers from her arms and placed it on the coffee table without even glancing at it, saying:
"Just now in the elevator, I overheard two nurses excitedly talking about how a man in a leather jacket rode up on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle with a large bouquet of roses tied to the back. Apparently, those flowers were for you."
"Second brother, I didn't know he would come."
Jiang Wenjing nodded knowingly, "I know that. Even if you had ten times the courage, you wouldn't dare to bring that brat out to embarrass yourself when your whole family comes to pick you up from the hospital."
Seeing that they were difficult to communicate with, Jiang Hexi said in a submissive manner:
"Big brother, second brother, I've just recovered from my illness, and the doctor said I can't be subjected to too much stimulation."
"Okay, we can talk about this later, provided you're still single," Jiang Wenjing subtly warned.
"Wearing a leather jacket and black pants, and riding a motorcycle to show off, he's only concerned with looking cool and doesn't even have the most basic sense of composure in front of his elders."
Jiang Wenze looked at Yan Jie with disdain from head to toe, and finally looked at Jiang Hexi and said:
“Little sister, I’m talking about him, not you. You have nothing to do with him, I know that.”
Seeing that the two of them were complaining endlessly, Jiang Hexi lifted the blanket, got out of bed, put on her slippers, and walked out of the ward.
Jiang Wenjing immediately asked, "Little sister, where are you going?"
"go home."
Jiang Hexi, too lazy to deal with the unpleasant things behind her, opened the door, glanced at them, and said, "Weren't you here to pick me up from the hospital? Fine, if you're not leaving, I'll leave."
The two brothers exchanged a glance, not daring to say another word about her, and followed each other out of the ward.
Yan Jie regretted wearing that motorcycle outfit to visit Jiang Hexi in the hospital.
He didn't get a good look from Jiang Hexi, and even left an impression of being unreliable in front of her family.
If it weren't for gaining Mr. Jiang's approval during a later conversation, which saved him some face, the road ahead would have been even more difficult.
He sped along the road on his motorcycle, arriving at the small villa in Jiahe Mansion ten minutes later, and rang the doorbell.
Chu Ci responded and came to open the door. Seeing him standing outside, she warily left the door half-closed.
What are you doing at my house?
"I'll stay here for a few months."
Ignoring his attempts to stop him, Yan Jie entered the room, tossed the helmet into his arms, changed into slippers, and leaned back on the sofa like a lord.
“If you ran away from home after arguing with the old man, I dare not take you in. If the old man holds me accountable, I will be in big trouble.”
Chu Ci opened the door and invited him out.
Yan Jie easily dealt with him, "Xi Mei also lives in Jiahe Mansion."
Chu Ci slammed the door shut, walked over and sat down opposite him, asking with concern, "Are you confident this time?"
Yan Jie glanced at the kettle on the coffee table, and Chu Ci took the initiative to make tea and pour water for him.
He hunched over, rested his hands on his knees, and started playing on his phone.
"Get ready, next time you see her you'll call her 'cousin-in-law'."
Step: [Send me your location.]
Jie: [It's been ten minutes. Reply to my message when you have time.]
Jie: [It's been twenty minutes. Do I really have to report in the five-person group chat that I brought ninety-nine roses to see you today?]
He immediately posted his location with a smile, then went offline and disappeared.
Jiang Hexi put down her phone, looked at the large bouquet of flowers on the bedside table, and couldn't resist getting up. She picked up the bouquet and started counting the flowers.
There really are ninety-nine flowers.
She happily lifted her big toe, lay flat on the bed, rolled over twice while wrapped in the blanket, and thought to herself, "Let him pursue me if he wants; I'll give him this one and only chance!"
The next morning, my phone alarm went off right at 6:30.
Jiang Hexi quickly got out of bed and went into the bathroom to wash up and change.
She came out with her hair in a high ponytail, wearing a T-shirt and gym pants, and only twenty minutes had passed.
She then lingered in the room for twenty minutes.
At 7:10, she walked towards Yan Jie outside the gate, still looking sleepy and yawning.
"I thought you weren't coming."
Yan Jie raised his hand and placed it on her head, gently ruffling her long hair. Seeing her open her sleepy eyes and look at him in surprise, he chuckled and said:
"Awake now? Then stop talking in your sleep and get running with me to warm up."
Jiang Hexi followed behind him, running slowly forward. After only one kilometer, she was panting heavily like a calf.
For a moment, she felt that Yan Jie wasn't pursuing her, but rather deliberately tormenting her.
She ran about three kilometers before she couldn't run anymore. She put her hands on her knees and was so tired that she couldn't straighten her back.
Yan Jie ran around the artificial lake and returned to her side, slowly stopping in his tracks.
"You can't stop right after you finish running; you have to walk around for a bit."
"I can't leave."
After Jiang Hexi said those words in despair, he pulled her forward and led her away.
She looked at their clasped hands, thinking she couldn't let him get away with it so easily, and with a flick of her wrist, she shook his hand off.
"I'll walk by myself."
Seeing that she was angry, Yan Jie smiled and told her, "There's a breakfast stall up ahead. I'll take you there to have some hot soy milk and steamed buns."
Jiang Hexi refused him, saying, "I want to go home for breakfast."
Seeing her walk back, Yan Jie slowly followed.
“Xi-mei, I just want to pursue you.”
Jiang Hexi stopped in her tracks, turning back to look at him with a mixture of embarrassment and anger.
Yan Jie teased her, saying, "But you run too slowly. I went around an artificial lake to catch up with you, and you still wouldn't agree."
Jiang Hexi was almost driven mad by him. Who in the world pursues someone like that?
She ran herself ragged, but he still felt wronged.
"Stop right there. And don't chase me anymore. Starting tomorrow, I will never run with you again."
Seeing her turn to leave, Yan Jie realized the joke had gone too far. He strode after her, reaching out to block her path, and said:
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have made that kind of joke."
Jiang Hexi walked past him to the side, but as they passed each other, he suddenly grabbed her around the waist, pulled her back abruptly, and held her tightly in his arms.
She nestled nervously into his arms, hearing a heartbeat even more frantic than hers:
"Xi Bao, I like you."
