Jiang Hexi woke up early in the morning with a groggy head.
She vaguely remembered having a short meeting on the sofa, but she didn't know what was discussed.
When I went downstairs, there was no one in the living room.
Jiang Hexi sat down on the threshold with a bowl of thin porridge. She glanced at the bright sunlight in the courtyard, and ate the porridge spoonful by spoonful with some pickled vegetables.
The village chief's call came from the loudspeaker on the telephone pole:
"Hello—hello—, this is the village chief. I have a few things to say to you."
"As you all probably know, the Henan-Hunan Expressway has officially opened to traffic. Now, it takes less than two hours to drive from the city to our Canglang Village."
"Now is a great time to develop tourism in Canglang Village. The village committee has decided to integrate the resources of the entire village and work with Professor Luo and the program team to create an ecological wetland park. Those whose names are called, please come to the village committee for a meeting this afternoon..."
Upon hearing the village chief's announcement, Jiang Hexi suddenly remembered that they were going to build roads, plant flowers, and install railings along the Sanxi Lake.
Chu Yang came out of the room and sat on the threshold with a bowl of thin porridge in his hand.
"Sis, where did they all go?"
"Where they go is not important."
Jiang Hexi advised him, "The important thing is that lazy people have good fortune. If you have to work, there will always be work to do. It's rare to have a chance to rest. We should just live in the moment."
Chu Yang was successfully brainwashed by her "lazy person's remarks" and stopped asking where the others had gone.
Yan Jie rode his electric bike back from the village committee. As soon as he entered the courtyard, he saw the Crouching Dragon and the Phoenix Chick standing like two door gods on the left and right of the threshold.
He walked up to the two of them carrying a bag of fish and shrimp.
What are you doing sitting on the doorstep?
"sober up."
Jiang Hexi stared at the bag in his hand and said, "You did nothing all morning but go to the pond and catch these small fish and shrimp?"
“I went to a meeting at the village committee, and on my way back I passed by the pond and casually caught a bag of fish and shrimp.”
Yan Jie called them over: "Come with me to feed the ducks."
Chu Yang followed behind him and complained, "Brother, you treat those ducks better than you treat me."
"My mother duck just laid her eggs and is incubating the ducklings in the nest. Are you sure you want to compare your treatment to a mother duck that's still recovering from childbirth?"
Yan Jie's bizarre remarks prompted Chu Yang to wave his hands repeatedly and apologize:
"Brother, I dare not."
"Get a long bamboo pole and block those two mallards so they can't steal the food."
Chu Yang was scolded into submission and obediently went to fetch the bamboo pole.
Jiang Hexi stood to the side, watching Chu Yang swing a bamboo pole to chase away the two green-headed male ducks. The two sides fought fiercely, and the male ducks quacked and scattered duck feathers all over the ground.
Meanwhile, Yan Jie was enjoying a peaceful time. He used a small net to scoop out small fish and shrimp and kept feeding them to the two mother ducks, who responded with gentle quacking.
She had no idea what he was up to all day long; she was utterly speechless.
[A mother duck is in confinement! The King of Hell has taken pampering his ducks to a whole new level, hahaha!]
On one side, there was a chaotic fight, and on the other, a peaceful meal being prepared. The scene was so disconcerting.
Have you all noticed that Little Poplar always seems destined to be summoned by the King of Hell...?
[His reputation as a handsome, manipulative, and cunning man isn't just for show.]
Yan Jie watched as the two mother ducks ate and drank their fill and returned to their hay nest to incubate their eggs before leaving, satisfied.
He rode his electric scooter up to Jiang Hexi and said, "Get on."
Where are you taking me?
"Go to the local flower nursery and order a batch of seedlings to plant along the scenic road by Sanxi Lake."
After getting into the car, Jiang Hexi called out, "Chu Yang!"
"Sister, I'm here."
Chu Yang immediately drove an electric scooter and followed closely behind.
The three people arrived at a steel-framed shed in a neighboring village where flower seedlings were being cultivated.
Yan Jie handed them the landscape design drawings for the ecological wetland park:
"This is a horticultural landscape design meticulously created by Professor Luo and his wife, taking into account the topography and vegetation along the Sanxi Lake."
"The flower path along the stream is to be transformed into a Monet garden. Even the location of the ornamental stones is clearly marked, and the order and arrangement of the various flowers are also very particular."
“Maple, azalea, and red photinia shrubs form the framework, while perennial herbs such as broom and New Zealand flax provide transitions. Larkspur and foxglove are interspersed to add color and structural layering, and low-growing marguerites and carnations are used for paving and edging.”
Jiang Hexi said excitedly, "Just looking at this blueprint, I can imagine how beautiful this garden will be."
Yan Jie then pointed to the design drawing in Chu Yang's hand and said:
"This uphill road will be built with stone steps, and hydrangeas will be planted along the roadside to create a beautiful scene of blooming flowers on both sides."
"Brother, once this flower path is completed, it will definitely become a new popular spot for internet celebrities to take photos."
Yan Jie said firmly, "There are also concept drawings for bamboo forest paths, poppy fields, etc., all of which are the result of Professor Luo and his wife's more than ten years of hard work. We will bring them all to life."
The owner walked over and warmly led them into the steel-framed shed with hydrangeas.
"Business at the flower market is tough right now. The village chief called again, repeatedly asking me to take care of you. For the sake of our fellow villagers, I'll give you a rock-bottom price. All the hydrangea seedlings here, regardless of variety, will be sold to you for seven yuan each."
This price is really fair.
Jiang Hexi looked at Yan Jie questioningly, not daring to express her opinion casually.
Yan Jie: "If these flowers were transplanted to the shores of Sanxi Lake, would they all survive?"
