When Yan Jie returned carrying a bucket of river crabs, everyone stared at him.
"Don't look at me, this is all thanks to Ximei."
Chu Yang immediately ran to Jiang Hexi's side and excitedly circled around her:
"Sis, where did you catch so many big river crabs? Why didn't you call me?"
"Let go of your bunch of little shrimp and crabs, and I'll bring you next time."
Since Jiang Hexi had spoken, Chu Yang had no choice but to obediently comply.
The group drove back to the stone courtyard.
Jiang Hexi, wearing claw gloves, was putting river crabs into the nanny's basket when a basin was handed over from the outside and placed right under her nose with utter arrogance.
"What's the meaning?"
"Give me a few river crabs to try, so I can satisfy my craving."
Chai Fei stood behind the camera, only one hand sticking out. She lifted the basin up, urging Jiang Hexi to hurry up.
Jiang Hexi had never seen such a blatant robbery. She pulled three large crabs out of the bucket and put them into the basin.
"Gossip Girl, crabs are cold in nature. Three is enough for you. Eating too many will easily give you diarrhea."
"Three of them? You think you can treat a beggar like that?"
Chai Fei tapped the bucket in protest, "At least eight would be enough."
The assistant director whispered a reminder to her, "Ten."
Chai Fei then changed his tune fiercely, saying, "Give me twelve crabs, not even one leg less."
Jiang Hexi really wanted to persuade them to go back and discuss things before extorting money in front of the camera.
She eventually yielded to the pressure from the director's wife and obediently handed over twelve large river crabs.
Director Chen saw this scene on camera and sighed helplessly.
He watched through the security camera as Chai Fei carried the basin of crabs into the adjacent kitchen and instructed the staff around him:
"Cut this part out during post-production editing."
"Understood, Director."
Director Chen couldn't stop her audacious actions and had no choice but to protect her.
Chai Fei steamed the crabs and brought three over for Director Chen to try.
“Xi Mei and the others ate crab roe noodles and crab roe soup dumplings. You don’t have that option, so just have some steamed crab.”
"Don't steal other people's things next time."
"These are river crabs that Xi Mei gave me. The assistant director was there at the time. If you don't believe me, go ask the assistant director."
Director Chen sat on a low stool, staring intently upwards at her. After a moment, he reluctantly picked up a crab, peeled it, and said:
"I misunderstood you."
"I didn't want Xi Mei's crabs at first, after all, they were the fruits of her labor all night."
Chai Fei leaned against the wall, watching him peel crabs, and said very considerately:
"But crabs are considered 'cold' in traditional Chinese medicine. She brought back a whole bucketful. What if she gets an upset stomach if I don't help her eat some?"
Director Chen thought these words sounded familiar. After a moment's thought, she realized that these were Jiang Hexi's original words when she advised her to eat less crab, which she had changed into a reason why she had to eat crab.
He picked out the crab roe for her, saying, "Try it."
Chai Fei smiled and waved her hand, "I have some good food, you can keep it for yourself."
The delicious food she referred to was the crab roe noodles and crab roe soup dumplings that Chu Yang had sent over.
Director Chen watched as she moved effortlessly between the guests and the production team, and suddenly understood why she had so readily agreed to be a guest star when he had previously advised against it.
With the 200,000 yuan investment from the program team, the five chaebols became incredibly wealthy.
The second phase of the ecological wetland park project continues to be carried out in full swing.
Topdressing of corn and sorghum has also been put on the agenda.
With just one phone call from Shen Yingyu, Zhu Dali Chemical Plant delivered a whole truckload of compound fertilizer.
As soon as the agricultural drones arrived, the three-person team went to the fields and split up to fertilize the corn and sorghum.
The chill of autumn seeps in little by little.
Before the first frost, all the corn and sorghum in the fields were ripe.
The village chief wrapped his coat tighter and, braving the chilly autumn wind, strode into the stone courtyard.
As he entered the living room, he was greeted by a warm breeze and couldn't help but remark, "You guys really know how to enjoy yourselves; you're making a fire at a time like this."
"Let's gather around the stove and brew tea."
Jiang Hexi picked up a ceramic jar from the rack and poured a cup of milk tea for the village chief, saying, "Have a cup of milk tea to warm yourself up."
The village chief took a sip of the canned milk tea, his furrowed brows so tight they could trap a mosquito:
"What the hell is this? It tastes awful."
Jiang Hexi couldn't bear to see her hard work ruined, so she said fiercely, "Village chief, either you finish this cup of milk tea, or you pay me fifteen yuan."
Seeing that she was serious, the village chief held his breath and drank the milk tea in his cup in one gulp.
"Instead of having time to brew tea here, why don't you take some time to harvest the corn and sorghum in the field?"
“We don’t have a harvester,” Jiang Hexi said, looking at him innocently.
"Where are Yan Jie and Shen Yingyu?"
"He went to the city to rent a harvester. He left this morning and hasn't come back yet."
“Now is the critical period for harvesting. There are not enough harvesters. Others have paid deposits and reserved harvesters in advance. But you guys are the ones who only realized that you didn’t rent a harvester when the crops were ripe.”
The village chief was genuinely worried for them. "The weather forecast says there will be freezing rain at the end of the month. If we haven't harvested the corn and wheat by then, all the work we did in the second half of the year will have been for nothing."
Jiang Hexi's voice trembled with panic, "What should we do?"
The village chief sighed heavily and said:
"If there are no harvesters, then we can only use the methods passed down from our ancestors. In the worst-case scenario, I will mobilize all the villagers to come to the fields to help you harvest the crops."
Jiang Hexi thought of the endless cornfields and sorghum fields, and her hands and feet went weak:
“Village chief, harvesting by hand is too traditional. It sounds rather frightening.”
