Xie Wanyi's action of using a grader to create an S-shaped broadband signal immediately ignited the live broadcast room.
His solo fans couldn't sit still and started breaking up the pairing.
[With Xie Yingdi being so attentive, could he... possibly have feelings for Yu Xiangwan?]
[Keep your voice down upstairs, or your die-hard fans might come after you. Anyway, after watching this variety show, I don't believe a single one of those rumors about Wanwan allegedly trying to get close to Xie Yingdi.]
[Actor Xie was so cool clearing the way for Wanwan with his grader! The Wanwan couple is so sweet, sisters, let's go!]
[Thank you for your support, my beloved actor. Please, someone's hired trolls, stop trying to piggyback on my fame. They previously used my actor's negative publicity to gain popularity, and now they're trying to create a CP (couple pairing) marketing campaign. Don't push your luck!]
[Yu Xiangwan, this variety show personality, previously had a "clingy" persona, but now she's suddenly a "mature and sophisticated woman"? Does the show's script have to be so obvious?]
[The innocent will clear themselves. Xie Wanyi's die-hard fans, don't forget this is a live broadcast. If your "actor" had the ability to act in front of the camera 24/7, I would never play along.]
Director Chen couldn't stand the chaotic noise in the live broadcast room.
He asked the back-end staff to block all the accounts that were arguing, and the comment section became much quieter and more pleasing to the eye.
They finished work early in the evening, and the village chief drove the group past the camphor tree at the entrance of the village.
Jiang Hexi could hear the cheerful laughter carried by the wind from a great distance.
As they approached, they saw the elderly women sitting under a camphor tree chatting. She stopped the village chief, pulled Chu Yang and Yu Xiangwan out of the car, and the three of them went over to join in the fun.
When Cui Atai saw the three young men approaching, she didn't ask who they were. Instead, she pulled out a small stool from beside her and invited them to sit down.
The old woman, fanning herself with a palm leaf fan, recognized them: "You three are the outsiders who contracted that thousand mu of land at the east entrance of the village, right?"
Jiang Hexi said happily, "Grandma has a good eye; she recognized us at a glance."
In front of the three people, the old woman used a palm-leaf fan to shield her eyes and whispered loudly in Cui Atai's ear:
“Those three are the biggest victims that the village chief cheated out of. I don’t know how many bosses lost money on that land. It’s land that even the locals don’t want to farm, but they’ve been renting it out to these outsiders.”
Jiang Hexi, Yu Xiangwan, and Chu Yang sat on low stools, their faces immediately filled with black lines.
Grandma Cui was nearly a hundred years old, and had long since lost all her teeth, but she was remarkably spry. She smiled and nodded, saying:
"Ah Xiang, suffering a loss is a blessing, suffering a loss is a blessing."
Grandma Xiang turned her head and smiled, "Grandma said that the three of you farming will have great fortune to come. By the way, what are you three doing here?"
Jiang Hexi spoke up somewhat awkwardly: "Listen to... the gossip in the village."
Grandma Xiang patted her shoulder with her palm-leaf fan and said without any hesitation, "Whose gossip do you want to hear?"
Jiang Hexi tentatively asked, "Village Chief?"
The elderly women sitting in a circle under the camphor tree all pulled out their low stools and moved one stool to the inside in unison, then started gossiping about the village chief.
They talked for half an hour, starting from the story of the village chief being chased by a dog while wearing open-crotch pants, and ending with the story of his grandson being hung from a tree and whipped with willow branches while playing in the water.
Yu Xiangwan scooped up a handful of pumpkin seeds, cracking them open as she spoke to Chu Yang:
"The village chief's gossip is much more exciting than those melodramatic TV shows."
Chu Yang listened with great interest, "This place truly lives up to its reputation as the village's intelligence liaison station. We have successfully infiltrated the enemy's ranks."
The camera PDs who were filming the scene exchanged glances and felt it was necessary to report this to Director Chen. After all, the village chief was the production team's most loyal and reliable partner, and they couldn't let the second generation turn him against them.
Seeing that it was getting late, Jiang Hexi asked a relatively important question:
"Grandma and Grandpa, besides the fish harvest from the reservoir, what other wild vegetables and mountain produce can we forage for in our village on ordinary days?"
Cui Atai grinned, revealing a mouthful of teeth. "This kid is really clever. Anyway, it's a cheap deal in the village, so why not take it?"
Jiang Hexi's thoughts were seen through by Cui Atai at a glance. Instead of being coy, she readily admitted it:
"There's no other way, I don't have any money on hand, so I can only be thrifty and manage my household well."
Grandma Xiang and her group of elderly friends exchanged glances, and she said with a smug look on her face:
"You've come to the right person this time. There's plenty of wild food in the mountains around here."
As night fell and the grandmothers gradually left, the three of them reluctantly headed home.
The three returned to the wooden building, where dinner was already laid out on the long table.
Yan Jie, Shen Yingyu, and Xie Wanyi waited until the three of them returned before they sat down to eat.
After dinner, the six people sat on the long sofa, each in their own way, resting without saying a word, silently digesting the fatigue from working during the day.
Director Chen asked, rather inappropriately, "Since the six guests are so free and have finished harvesting the chives in the field, why don't you think about what to plant in that acre of vegetable garden?"
Yu Xiangwan protested, "Who said we were going to grow vegetables?"
"If you don't grow vegetables, you're just going to let that piece of land lie fallow and ignore it?"
"Who said we're going to abandon that land?"
Director Chen was annoyed by these two rhetorical questions, "So what do you plan to plant in that vegetable patch?"
Yu Xiangwan: "We won't plant anything."
Director Chen was so angry that his veins were bulging, and he snapped, "What exactly do you want to do on that piece of land?"
Yu Xiangwan said with an air of domineering confidence, "I'll raise bees."
[Wanwan is really going to drive Director Chen crazy!]
[This is outrageous! They actually came up with the ridiculous idea of beekeeping just to avoid farming!]
I can understand them. They work themselves to the bone all day, and then they can't even relax when they get home. Anyone would rebel.
Chu Yang eased the tension by saying, "There's a large field of rapeseed flowers planted around that vegetable patch, and it's currently in bloom. Wildflowers are also blooming all over the nearby hills. That land would be perfect for raising bees."
Director Chen: "If you don't grow vegetables, what will you eat?"
Jiang Hexi had already inquired about it. "Grandma Xiang in the South Alley has two acres of land. She has plenty of chives, lettuce, spinach, and green beans. If she and her old friends have any extra vegetables, they are willing to sell them to us cheaply."
Director Chen reiterated: "The program's mission is—"
"Farming".
Jiang Hexi interrupted him, saying, "But my understanding of farming is not just about burying your head in hard work. The effort should be rewarded, creating a positive feedback loop, so that the effort can be sustained."
Yu Xiangwan posed three pointed questions, piercing Director Chen's soul:
"Beekeeping is clearly more profitable, so why do we still have to work so hard to dig up the soil and grow vegetables? Besides, how can our vegetables compare to those grown by the old ladies at the village entrance? Director Chen, a third of the young people in the village have gone out to work. Is it because they are not working hard enough in farming, or because they don't want to stay at home?"
Director Chen remained unusually calm and silent.
Chu Yang said sincerely, "We come here to farm, not to do hard labor, but to experience the joy of a bountiful harvest through our work."
Director Chen wasn't brainwashed by them. He silenced the three men who were spouting nonsense with just one question:
Do you keep bees?
